10 Essentials for Your Desk
For the lot of us, we are getting ready to start school or already have (ew). But despite the ugly truth that is school, we should prepare ourselves nonetheless and that includes personalising your personal desk. Elise Mag has gathered a list of ten essentials that should be on said room centerpiece at all times:
Click on the links for my back-to-school picks and inspiration!
1. Cork Board
Nothing beats a cork board in a room chock full of inspirational quotes and photographs to motivate you every day. Not to mention a handy place to stick up a few post-it reminders.
2. Colored Pens
According to articles I’ve encountered on the internet, you’re said to more likely remember your notes if they’re written in different colored ink. Whether it’s true or not, colored pens are definite must have on your desk for quick memos and note revisions. Or side-tracked doodles, trust me, we all do it.
3. Desktop Calendar
Managing your time wisely and keeping track of exams, project deadlines and assignments are some of the ingredients to getting good grades. To do this, you need a desktop calendar ready at your disposal.
4. Memo Cube
Everyone should have a memo cube on their desk for quick notes, 4-am thoughts and ideas, or for writing down to do’s.
5. Pencil and Pen Holder
Pretty self explanatory.
6. Tape Dispenser
It’s a pretty simple tool, but you’re going to use this one a lot. Moreover, scissors and a stapler are equally essential.
7. Great Lighting
No desk is complete without great lighting. This aspect is extremely important, yet often overlooked. If you’re planning on getting a desk lamp (and you should), take a look at this article on finding the perfect desk lamp for you.
8. Book Stoppers
Book stoppers can be found literally everywhere and they also come in neat designs. They come cheap and even cheaper when you make them yourself!
9. Tumbler or Mug
And when I say tumbler, I don’t mean the blogging site. Tumblers should be on your desk ready in case you get thirsty during study sessions. Mugs should be present at all times especially during the eve of finals when you need that extra caffeine boost. If you’re planning on getting either one, I recommend getting the mug.
10. Earbuds
Studying doesn’t have to be a drag. Create a study playlist or get inspiration from our playlist here (the secret is playing a mix of upbeat songs with minimal lyrics), pop on a pair of earbuds and you’ve got some jamming tunes to accompany your endless reading assignments!

Firsr year of medicine studying material. I had 10 subjects this year and in second year, which starts in 9 days, we have 12 subjects. TWELVE. Goodness.
