HELP
my close family member is going through a crisis right now; due to an error in paperwork, its SSDI isn't going to arrive until later and it is currently $700 in the negatives. i'm making a donation post on its behalf, as it relies on the SSDI for living costs due to both physical and mental disability. if you want to help a chronically disabled gay and trans person this disability pride month, please consider sharing this post and donating.

I write to you with tears in my eyes. The genocide killed our provider, the one who gave us food and clean water. My older brother was our support; he provided food for us and my mother, who was suffering from cancer. My brother was killed by a treacherous bullet to the head; he died instantly. My mother's health deteriorated afterward until she died from the hunger and disease that ravaged her body. My brother, my father, and I were left alone, with nothing to satisfy our hunger or silence our gnawing stomachs
Our bodies have been weakened by lack of food and clean water, and diseases have taken hold. I am now suffering from chest pain; I have been struck by a wheezing that causes shortness of breath and has confined me to bed. I find it difficult to move. Meanwhile, my younger brother and my frail father, who is suffering from the pain of loss and hunger, remain

My father suffered greatly after losing my brother, and shortly after, my mother. Now his other son is bedridden and unable to do anything, and his other son is a young child. Our lives have been turned upside down. We are being killed in a genocide. My father looks at me every day and cries because he can't provide us with food, and my health is deteriorating day by day from hunger. Please help us. Save this helpless little family who don't even have enough money for food. Please save me before I die. My father has lost enough. Please don't leave us alone. Help us in any way you can. We need $300. Please help us. Don't let us die. Please. 💔😭😭
there's a lot of talk about reading comprehension and one thing i think is the biggest barrier to people on this site getting better at it is simply... rushing. rushing to share something you haven't understood, rushing to have an opinion without taking the time to think about it, rushing to declare that you don't understand something
take these tags, on somebody else's post (condolences pip)
the thing is. this is what i would call an inside thought. nobody would have known you didn't get it if you didn't tell them that. if you recognised that it was important but didn't have the headspace to process it, you can reblog without commentary for others, or to come back to later. or you can save it somewhere and wait until you DO have the capacity to read it over a few more times, ponder it, consider what it might mean, figure out how to understand it, and THEN reblog it
but no. rushing to reblog while it is still opaque. rushing to admit to ignorance rather than spend the time to achieve understanding. perhaps hoping that somebody will break it down for you more simply, though to my mind it was quite simply phrased in the first place. never stopping to take the time first
comprehension is not always instant! sometimes it takes a bit of time for something to percolate after you read it; sometimes you need to read it a few times; sometimes you realise you don't have the context for it and either go and get the context or accept that it's not for you right now
please just simply slow down. you don't always have to respond to everything within a second or two. it is okay if it is not an instantaneous understanding. we all need to get more comfortable with thinking more slowly and more deeply and more carefully, and not letting our instant split second responses drive us all the time, because they are a barrier to genuine reflection
to switch the topic for just a sec, i feel like the "you only headcanon ralsei as a trans girl because they're feminine!" group also associate being nice and friendly with femininity, so a nice and friendly and feminine "boy" becoming a girl is seen as even more regressive to them. so it's SO important that chapter 5 is the chapter where ralsei gets to be Mean and Violent.
not to get all "it's ok for girls to be feminine!" but like. it's fine if ralsei's a feminine trans girl. i think she, particularly, needs that. but what she also needs -- honestly, even more than femininity -- is the chance to be mean and rude. she deserves to mouth off to people. to give death threats, even, like she did with flowery. to be completely nice is to hold herself back.
let her be a girl. let her be Angry.
@sophibeans screenshotting bc you hit the nail on the fuckin HEAD.
audiences have no idea how to be uncomfortable anymore
watch movies that make you uncomfortable read books that make you uncomfortable go to plays that make you uncomfortable watch tv that makes you uncomfortable look at paintings and sculpture and artwork that makes you uncomfortable. it is spiritually and morally and ethically and artistically really really good for you. think about why you are uncomfortable. what biases do you bring to art? what biases does the art bring to you? how do you reconcile this? how does your worldview grow and expand and change? all this and more will be answered and available to you if you just engage with art that does not coddle you and treats you like an intelligent human being that can sit through discomfort
"Oh but this male character is being sexualised too! So it's a win against sexism" and 100% of the time it's either a joke about how ridiculous it would be for men to be sexualised because they're real people and not objects, or it's fully just homophobic and or transmisogynistic
I mean people will see gender swapped player models and skip straight past just how blatantly misognistic the animations for women are and instead go "Haha whoa I need this fr!!!". Because no one sees women as human beings, let alone ones worth depicting in media as such.
