Giving a shot at small, regular sketches in a small enough sketchbook that I shouldn’t go getting ambitious enough to overwhelm myself. This one’s based very directly off a photo I saw around online, but it’s meant for practice for a piece I mean to give as a gift.

Given the recent arrival of credit rankings and consumers, Kurt’s backstory as a fisher of invasive species has really convenient timing - maybe fated. Merlinmeyer’s quick to take credit for the fortune, and encourage Kurt to go fishing them out before they take a bite out of anyone in upcoming floods. Kurt’s not so convinced their fishing net is big enough for this…

Concept art from the recent lorejam for Yellowstone’s newest batter, Tiana Wheeler, recently swapped in from the shadows! She/they/it, with a general consensus of a shadowy, indistinct humanoid figure.
I took that and added an objecthead of a wheel of the colors of the sky - mostly blue for no particular reason ;) - to pull in the Wheeler part of their name. I’m basing the uniform design on Jasmine Rae Friedrich’s jersey up at Blaseball Cares.
The second image is Logan Rodriguez and Tiana Wheeler sitting down for tea.
One of the ongoing jokes and frustrations in Yellowstone is how Logan refuses to use his siphon ability to gain stars, and remains our least consistently performing pitcher… there’s a joke that he keeps dodging his pitching juice, and that he can’t keep getting away with it.
With the idea that Tiana likes tea, and the Infuse will, I propose that we get him to try some siphoned tea instead.

Exciting and baffling wimdy news for Yellowstone Magic as King Weatherman, longtime rival of the entire team (he knows what he did) swaps with Cory-12! Well known for always wearing smart suits even while playing, I had to give my new pens a whirl and sketch a concept art for him. (Please enjoy the mirrored triangles of hat and tie for some uppy-downy, and thanks to GettyImages for having pictures I could blatantly trace in the pursuit of this profitless fanart.)
It's been a while since I did much artistically, but being in something of a downward swing, I saw a post reminding of the importance of tactile hobbies, and grabbed a bunch of pens. A mix of doodles with no reference, some off quickly seen things in the video I'm half-watching, and some off a photo.

@abadtime After that chapter, I had to go back and reread 22 for the relative happiness of it. And then give a shot at drawing Sans as he examined his reflection for the first time. But check this out! This is the first time I've tried drawing something on paper, then redrawing it on the tablet by tracing the paper. Unfortunately requires me to stretch the image to get the proportions right, but this could be very handy for getting the base of an image down. I'm glad a post went around with this suggestion.
Here's the results of some fun with my scanner, overlapping the layers in GIMP, and trying to match the contrast and saturation settings between each layer. Originally consisted of six pages of pen and colored pencil on grid paper. Things are still slightly crooked here and there, but I'm okay with that. I'm using this version as the base for a purely digital version next, using the grid and the snap to grid setting to smooth it out.
This is a map of approximately half the planet for my story setting; the green lines indicate the poles and equator. Each square represents 2 degrees latitude and longitude, so it is extremely distorted and large close to the poles. My goal is to someday work out a full globe and make a three dimensional model. :)

An expansion to the previous map, outlining the neighboring fictional continent. Drawn with pen and colored pencil on grid paper. This continent was something of a challenge because it's a major revision of the old draft (as in, circa 2003 or so). I had another story draft that I'm folding into this world and setting, so I'm blending some of the world design to pick and choose elements from each. It was also a pain trying to lay it out so it was close enough to the intended size without spilling over the page! I'm going to need to double check my work on this one before I do any versions with the climate regions. The latitudes are switched around enough to screw with the old design. May reupload with better images later.
A sequence of maps of a fictional continent, drawn on grid paper with pen and colored pencil. I experimented with a few different ways of representing mountain ranges and coastlines.
I did the first by tracing a non-grid draft of the continent and simplifying it to the grid lines. The second and third I did by hand, looking at the first and working square by square to replicate it. The fourth I cheated and traced, largely so I could do the river so neatly.
The first depicts a few historically significant regions to the story so far, overlaid with latitude lines (every 10 degrees, the highest depicted being 60 north and the lowest being 10 south).
The second was a crosshatching colored pencil setup. One set of diagonals indicated mountain / arid / tropical moist / subtropical moist / continental moist / marine west coast / water. The other set of diagonals went more precisely into the climates, including crossing all but the highest mountains. The plan was to depict all this so I could theoretically look at a square and know the typical conditions in that area. I would need to use a wider range of colors, though...
The third was a simpler, more stylized version of the first. Replaced the pen crosshatch of the mountains with little Xs and stars, small enough that I could depict something else in this map. I haven't yet decided what.
I liked the effect of the blue rivers so much that I began to carefully trace it for the fourth. This became an elevation map, with a blue green for regions that are at or lower than sea level, a warmer green for low (mostly coastal) regions, yellows for low hills, and the orange/reds for mountainous regions. The light blues of the water are continental crust, and where the purple turns reddish is very much not.
The images are quickies down with the tablet camera and my lamp for lighting, lampshade removed. I will probably edit in better versions of the pictures later.

Sketches done between 3/18/2015 and 3/28/2015, detailing character design, religious imagery, and city planning for the story and setting I've been working on. Pencil and colored pencil on paper (60lb sketchbook and regular printer paper respectively). The top is a set of busts of the primary protagonists for (working title) 'In Their Wake'. Top is the unnamed member of the Aculeus clan, the bone binders (funerary priests / necromancers) who ends up at the center of a continent-wide revelation about the end of the last great war. Left is Echo, unflatteringly nicknamed Flotsam by other tide tenders (merfolk and placaters of ancient sea monsters) for her intention to live ashore instead of taking a place among them. Right is Baelian, idealistic and talented student of the lore keepers (self-isolating scholars, archivists, and mages) whose sheltered upbringing didn't prepare for how to make any change in the world. Left picture is a basic face layout of each of the three, exploring the differences to help me simplify them for quick cartoony drawings. I haven't yet properly examined reference images to make their facial features more realistic, so these will change somewhat. Right is a series of symbols I've challenged myself to design. The rules are: you get three strokes. The first stroke is a larger, primary stroke, starting and/or ending in a spiral (one or two curls acceptable). The other two strokes are lines or curves, but /not/ full spirals, that can be adjacent, crossing or detached from the main stroke. I want to have at least one for horizontal and vertical curls in each of four directions, and least one for each combination of up/down/left/right double curls. Included are the symbols for Breath, Blood and Bone (the primary media of magic in this setting) as well as symbols that might work for groups like the Light Keepers. Bottom is a pair of maps and a rough city sketch of Koihill itself. The regional map in the upper right is the part of the world most relevant to the story (Koihill would be on the coast of that large bay, in the tiny nick on the northern side along those hills). Koihill is supposed to be a punny name, referring simultaneously to it being a hill-based town with associations with fishing and aquatic people, the coiling roads that climb up the twin hill peaks, a reference to FFX's Spira (and the undue influence that dead people have on the setting), and a fun reference to how the city looks from above with its primarily white walls and orange roofing.
A group of watercolor pictures I did in March 2008, based off photographs of the hills around my home and the sidewalks and campus. Looking back, I'm fond of the two on the right; they're not too busy, like the sidewalk is, and the colors work fairly well together. In particular, I like the gold hill off the blue/gray foreground, and the clouds of the lower right. Not the best of photographs, but I believe the originals are missing, so there's no opportunity to get betters. Uploading for archival purposes.
Planning drafts for symbols and depictions of three gods for the world I'm designing for stories and/or roleplay. Devourer: the spirit of resentment and unfulfilled craving. The desire of a moth that flies into flame. NE. Symbol: an open moth-like skull within a black hole, sometimes surrounded by colors that turn to gray in its presence. Decider: the spirit of authority and restriction. The fear that witholds flame within the security of a lantern. LE. Symbol: a tall thin black lantern slightly shaped like a house, with a small orange flame within and an impression of bars before it. Destroyer: the spirit of sanctity and purification. The wrath that burns out rot and corruption. CE. Symbol: a comet of silver blue light turning red as it enters an atmosphere, with broken shackles trailing behind.
Self portrait / trollsona drawn in about 30 minutes during breaks at work today. Teal-blooded with horns resembling antlers of a deer. Pun 100% intentional.
