Some nice as shit nature pic! I just love them! Its amazing and I can feel the witch vibe~
This…doesnt seem like an emotionally healthy attitude
So, a coworker of mine constantly likes and shares shit on Facebook from the “Mommy needs Vodka” group (which…I have a lot of feelings about the tacit acceptance of alcohol abuse through humor already) that just boil down to “I hate my body but I also like food I view as unhealthy. Arent I a mess? Haha so relatable.”
Examples:
Yall.
This is not… a sustainable relationship with food or body image. Masking it as haha so relatable humor doesnt make it less toxic.
This isnt the attitude of someone who has embraced body positivity and is living their best life and loving themselves regardless of artificial societal beauty standards.
This is the attitude of people, of women, trying to mask pretty intense body image issues and guilt over foods they view as unhealthy with humor. This was how I dealt with my body image issues in high school and a good chunk of college- hiding from my guilt over food and my deep dislike for my weight with humor.
I hate it. I hate that it’s normalized. I hate that its seen as funny. Maybe I’m being overly sensitive about this to a degree because it reminds me so vividly of how I used to cope. But. Ack.
You shouldnt feel guilt about food. You shouldnt see food as the enemy of your body. You shouldnt fear or resent your body in a bikini.

10 Tips (by me) to help improve your body image:
http://fandomsandfeminism.tumblr.com/post/180313838749/10-tips-to-improve-your-body-image
I think a lot of us around here know the struggle to be happier with our bodies without plunging into unhealthy-doomed-to-fail-diets. So, as
@eightiesbae
oh my god SHUT UP can we not joke about things anymore. this is my way of dealing with shit dont make me feel bad about it tf…
So, you’re 15. And I don’t point this out to be rude or patronizing, but to say that when I was 15? I made a lot of jokes like these as well. And my self-image was in a really bad place. I know what that’s like. I know that for me I buried myself in oversized hoodies until the summers hit 95 degrees, that I avoided looking in mirrors when I was getting dressed because all that chub made it hard to me to ignore the fact that I was chubby. This kind of humor may have helped me save face to my friends, but it didn’t actually make me better. Coping isn’t recovery.
I got better, slowly, and over time, and deliberately. It was long and it was hard and it was work. And I didn’t even start that process until I was in college, and I work on it more every day. Part of that process was to not constantly make jokes about how fat and unattractive I was. I will never be a size 00. But I can be someone who doesn’t need a shot of vodka to cope with trying on a bikini.
I don’t want to make you feel bad for feeling bad. My intent is to recognize that this coping mechanism isn’t an avenue to making the underlying issues you are coping with better. You’re 15. A quick look at your blog has several posts where the punch line is you insulting yourself. That age is hard enough as it is without surrounding yourself with jokes about how fat and unattractive you are, without making your discomfort with your own body a cornerstone of self-image. You don’t deserve that.
Sometimes I look and read a lot of negative, self-loathing memes online and they don’t make me feel better; they make me feel worse, hateful and sad. I also got jealous all the time looking at celebrities and models on Instagram and seeing how fabulous they looked.
In the past few months, I realized that our thoughts can have a profound effect on our minds and bodies. How we think can shape our future and how we respond to situations. We also need to stop comparing ourselves to other people.
So, I try my best to avoid looking at negative memes or browsing hateful, self-pitying online forums. I unfollowed famous people on social media and only focused on fellow writers, poets, artists, and creators. I prefer to watch positive, upbeat videos on YouTube to cheer myself up and remind myself that I am a beautiful, important person and that my life is not a waste. I also keep an affirmation journal to manifest my goals and to prompt positive thinking.
Daily affirmation can help a lot and can do wonders with one’s self-esteem. It may not work for everyone but I thought I’d chime in and share my insight.

I like to believe that all the dragons in the world were magically cursed and turned into cats. But cats have never forgotten where they come from, hence the attitude.
I nearly didn’t reblog this but the above comment makes more sense than anything I’ve ever heard.
…that’s…that’s actually a story my mom used to tell me when I was little? That a dragon showed up at someone’s cottage so they gave it milk. And the dragon enjoyed the milk, so it kept coming back and got smaller and softer and purry-er until eventually it wasn’t a dragon anymore, it was a cat, and that’s where cats came from and why we keep giving them milk.
She might have gotten the story from Ursula K. Le Guin, or I have confused it with a different dragon story.
That’s also why cats tend to hoard their toys behind the couch!
Actually the story is even older. Written by a woman named Edith Nesbit, first published in 1899, it is called “The Dragon Tamers”. It predates Leguin and other fantasy biggies like Lewis and Tolkien.
Nesbit actually can be credited with being one of the first authors that began to shift myths and legends to more fantasy-like stories (fantasy as a genre how we know it, wasn’t around then because it was just part of literature, especially British literature). In fact, many scholars who study fantasy literature and children’s literature believe that, since her children’s stories were so popular with children in England, the stories and their content prompted Tolkien (the first to coin fantasy as its own genre in his essay “On Fairy Stories”) to take up the stories of dragons and elves and fairies as they’d have been children when she was writing.
Tolkien was born in 1892. He would have been 7 when “The Dragon Tamers” was first published. Edith Nesbit did a LOT for modernizing myths, legends, and lore as a children’s author, maybe more than we will ever know.

Let’s hear it for Edith Nesbit.
growing up, i dont remember my dad yelling at me when i got in trouble
he yelled when i was playing outside and he wanted me in for dinner, but that was only so id hear him. he yelled the day i told him and my mom about the abuse going on at school, but that was when i was up in my room and he was downstairs yelling over my special ed teacher abusing me and my classmates and the school letting it happen and how messed up it was. he yelled the night he went to kill my uncle cuz he was upset that my uncle had raped my cousin
but he never yelled at me. i wasnt afraid of him screaming at me or worried that he might hit me when i got in trouble
and i grew up just fine. i grew up feeling loved. i grew up able to talk to him about my hobbies and interests. i grew up comfortable around my own dad
its messed up that my experience was something many people i know never had. a lot of those people feel distant from their dad or tense around them. they dont connect with their fathers, and that is a fault on the fathers part. and that issue is yelling
‘but hermes how did he discipline you? maybe you were just a good kid?’
im really disorganized, and god i was much worse when i was younger. i didnt finish my homework a lot then either
so when wed get a note home about my incomplete homework and disorganization, my dad….didnt yell at me. wed go about our day and when we were alone, hed bring it up. he was always gentle about it and he took ‘i dont know’ as an answer when he asked me why i had trouble finishing homework or organizing
according to my mom, enough ‘i dont know’s led to me getting my adhd diagnosis
and like…..i got better with organizing and finishing work. why? cuz my dad helped me. he sat down and helped me with my homework. we made a system that helped me finish assignments. he helped me organize my backpack and folders. i still use these systems even though im older and hes not here
when we moved, i didnt like my new special ed teacher at first, mostly cuz i was afraid shed be like my old one. i skipped going to her room a lot. i did whatever i could to avoid her
and so my dad asked me why i didnt go to her class. he asked me while we were doing something we liked, he was gentle about it too, and he had never been even vaguely threatening to me before……so i felt comfortable telling him i was scared
he helped me with this too. he told me to write down everything that happened in special ed and keep the page, so id see after a period of time that she wasnt going to abuse me. he worked with my special ed teacher for us to interact outside of a classroom environment for a little so i wouldnt feel pressured or that she had power over me
yelling isnt discipline. yelling doesnt teach your kid to do the right thing. building trust with them, accepting their answers, and helping them overcome difficulties teaches them to do the right thing
the fact that people in the notes are genuinely shocked that a parent doesnt yell at their kid and wish that their parents were like mine is fucked up
I just opened up a check in the mail, went to the ATM & found 20$ 😭 I’m not passing these shits up NO more on my mama!
Even if I do not receive money or good news, I did smile at seeing this smiling Buddha.
When you’re a kid, one teacher walking into another teacher’s classroom is the biggest crossover event reality has to offer
my physics and english teacher hated each other and the physics teacher made a habit of getting grades back to students as quickly as possible and one day he just walked into her classroom and started handing back tests while she was trying to lecture
listened to Bohemian Rhapsody today… i’m so very sorry
If this post gets 100 notes I’ll recreate the entire song through memes

Something that really breaks my heart is the cruel indifference that some people have towards pets or animals that they personally don’t enjoy. Like I hear so many stories about someone losing a beloved pet snake or rat or tarantula, only for their friends to say something like “good riddance”.
My best friend does not like my gerbils at all. She jokingly calls them vermin and teases me for being the only 25 year old woman that still has pet gerbils. She came to visit me one weekend when one of my sweet babies was really sick, and unfortunately called me at work to solemnly let me know my gerbil had passed. The entire drive home I was trying not to cry because we had plans and I didn’t want to ruin the weekend with my ridiculous grief over a rodent. When I got home, my best friend was sitting in the driveway, hand painting a little coffin with my gerbil’s name on it. I immediately started sobbing. She went and got me a glass of wine, and played a Stevie Nicks song on her phone while she dug a grave. After the somber funeral in my backyard, she cancelled our evening plans and we walked to a bar, where my best friend completely un-ironically held up a glass and toasted my dead gerbil, thanking her for the joy she’d brought me.
The point of this story is, you don’t have to share or even understand your friend’s interests to show them respect and empathy in a time of loss. It’s alright if you don’t like a friend’s unconventional pet, you certainly don’t have to! However, pet loss can be incredibly painful, and I think it is always best to err on the side of kindness.
One little girl where I work found out that one of her pet rats died before she went to school and went into like an intense three day mourning period. Some of the other teachers and myself thought that she was oddly attached to her rats, but we all told her we were really sorry to hear that and hoped that she felt better soon.
Even if you don’t like the animal, it’s not hard to be sympathetic.
that’s some damn tea
If extending a right to all people reduces your rights in any way? That means that right has been dependent on the oppression of someone else.
It means you’ve been profiting from the subjugation of others in some way. Are you good with that?
It’s not pie.
Repeat after me, kids: your significant other liking multiple genders does nothing to invalidate the fact that they like you best.
It simply means that they could have chosen literally anyone on earth, regardless of gender, and yet they still picked you.
This is really important.
