If you are a Christian that wants to host a Passover seder this year:

1) Don’t. It’s appropriative and gross.

2) Still don’t.

3) Jesus never participated in the type of seder that Jews have today. He lived (if he existed as described in your Christian holy books) during the Second Temple Era of Judaism, when worship was Temple-focused and ritual sacrifice was a key facet of the holiday. The modern seder takes most of its traditions from rabbinic Judaism, which was not the Judaism of Jesus.

4) Don’t do it. Don’t. No, there is no good reason for you to do it.

5) Given the Christian antisemitic violence traditionally inflicted on the Jews during this time of year (the lead up to Easter), it is EXTRA awful for Christians to try and appropriate our traditions related to Passover.

6) Don’t. Pesach is our holiday, and our religion is a semi-closed practice. Don’t appropriate our stuff. Don’t make our stuff about Jesus.

7) There are no exceptions to the rule that Christians should not host Passover seders.

fanfiction is amazing, isn’t it?

something tragic happened to your favorite character? there are lots of fix-it fics for that. you can imagine as if nothing bad ever really happened to them.

you’re craving comfort? there are lots of fluffy fics out there and it can help ease your nerves greatly, especially when you’re stressed.

two of your favorite characters lack interaction? don’t worry, there are works out there in which their relationship with each other runs deeper than what is shown on screen.

in the realm of reading and writing, anything’s possible. and yeah, people downplay fanfiction as something childish or immature - for those who’ve been reading or making content for a long time, you might even be aware of inside jokes during the peak of wattpad, such as y/n’s horrible outfits, y/n’s “i-brush-my-hair-and-put-it-in-a-messy-bun” morning routines, or y/n being sold to one direction - there are lots and lots of antics in fanfiction; lots of shits and gigs that take place, but i think we often fail to realize that it’s so powerful.

it’s so powerful, that a certain work can linger in your mind for days, even weeks. it’s so powerful, it brings people together. it brings people of the same interests and fandoms closer to each other. it’s amazing how anything beautifully written can make your heart ache. it’s unbelievable how different words that are strung and arranged into different sentences can make you feel like a giddy person with a schoolgirl crush. fanfiction is so powerful, it can make you feel emotions ranging from mad to joyful to nervous to excited.

now while we marvel at the gems of fanfiction, i want to reiterate that there are also lots of setbacks. i won’t be dwelling on it too much, but do remember this: it’s free.

writers do it out of their free will and they dedicate a huge chunk of time and talent for writing and planning. and i’m not saying this like it’s a bad thing because it’s not, but what i’m saying is considering the amount of effort and dedication they pour into creating and regularly providing content, you should at least be respectful to them. the simplest thing you could do is to respect their rules.

how many times are we gonna have the discussion not to share an author’s works on tiktok, especially those that include dark content? how many times are we gonna go on and on about about following a writing blog’s rules? how many times are we gonna argue about this, really? rambling about the same damn issue over and over again is getting tiring.

seeing my mutuals go through this and then experiencing it myself is infuriating. knowing that other talented writers may go through this as well gets me riled up real bad. trust me when i say that i want to do nothing but scream in frustration and anger, but nothing good ever comes out of fighting fire with fire.

fanfiction is fucking awesome, okay? if you truly appreciate it, please, respect an author’s rules. don’t be the reason why people get discouraged from doing what they love.
