they pushed his corpse back out to sea
we’ll see who’s laughing about outdated tumblr prose in 2029 when the average micro-influencer genre novel opens with like “first of;all i am not doing well And i might go away soon”
Cartloads for the cemetery, The rope is breaking, And it cannot be helped, and Sad forebodings of what must come to pass from the Disasters of War series by Francisco Goya (1746–1828)
even though i just said i know very little about this period i will make the bold and poorly founded claim that the most compelling piece of art to come out of the napoleonic era is the The Disasters of War series by Goya. probably one of the best arguments that anti-war art can exist without necessarily glorifying the act of war itself. the Come and See of the 19th century so to speak.
anyway i missed the opportunity to see an exhibition of goya's prints at the NGV back in 2021 or 2022 and I'll never forgive past me for that.
I was familiar with the concept of the long 19th century in european history (french revolution to the outbreak of WWI) but i recently found out there are also proponents of a long 18th century. are there any historians out there squabbling over if the french revolutionary and napoleonic wars are more suitable harbingers of the 19th century or codas to the 18th? i could be swayed either way.
Francesco Lupicini, ‘The Penitent Magdalene’, c.1630

uh i understand your knight kink post is engaging with the literary construct of the knight rather than the historical actually existing social role but you really failed to engage with the themes and tropes of late medieval grail literature
Z from the 1998 animated film Antz.
