ummmm i’m too fragile for life
nothing is more satisfying than knowing someone will be with you through thick and thin
“Chewing someone out” and “eating someone out” sound the same but they have totally different meanings.
I wish saying “Sorry, I’ve been depressed the past couple of days, but I’m ok now.” was as socially acceptable as “Sorry, I’ve been really sick the past couple of days, but I’m ok now.”
Omg his little hops 😭
Are you feeling kind of down right now? It’s not your fault that you forgot what baby cheetahs look like. Really. One time I did too.
But now you recall!
Look! Look!
They loves to play!
Rawr!
Their head is just one giant ball of floof!
I can’t even
How do they live? Being so cuTE??
Ugh!!
This has been a PSA. Baby cheetahs are everything good and pure in this world. Please imagine petting the floof head. Please feel better.
For anyone who needs this.
Also, when they are a little older, they have full-body mohawks!
I honestly needed this.
psa to fellow college instructors: it costs exactly $0 to be understanding when students are stressed as fuck at midterm time instead of saying “lol they knew it was coming tho”
I lied, this actually cost me $31 today because I bought a fuckton of coffee for all my students but you should’ve seen their faces it was like I’d given them the holy grail, the fountain of youth, and the second season of firefly all in one
shoutout to the time my mom was hammered and i heard her trying to tell my dad that she murdered her first husband years ago and my dad very patiently said “i saw glenn in an elevator last week”
Tumblr gets deep!
As deep as Broseidon? Or as deep as the Broceans?
A group of rough looking boys walked past me today and all I heard of their conversation was “he’s got that anxiety disorder bro so I went with him so he’d be more comfortable” and it made me realise the world isn’t all that bad
#this is team skull
The pet store I worked at had a pen with rabbits near the front door. On every side of the pen were huge signs saying “You can pet me, but don’t pick me up!” One day two absolutely huge guys came in and one immediately reaches into the pen to grab a rabbit. Before i could say anything his friend grabbed his arm and asked him “did you see the sign?” He said “yeah! it says that you can pick them up but don’t pet them!” Then he went quiet for a moment and softly said “I didn’t read it right did I?” And his friend just puts his arm on his shoulder and said “its ok, i know you’ve got that thing where words get mixed up. Let just pet these cute lil shits” And I still haven’t gotten over that interaction.
A friend and I were out with our kids when another family’s two-year-old came up. She began hugging my friend’s 18-month-old, following her around and smiling at her. My friend’s little girl looked like she wasn’t so sure she liked this, and at that moment the other little girl’s mom came up and got down on her little girl’s level to talk to her.
“Honey, can you listen to me for a moment? I’m glad you’ve found a new friend, but you need to make sure to look at her face to see if she likes it when you hug her. And if she doesn’t like it, you need to give her space. Okay?”
Two years old, and already her mother was teaching her about consent.
My daughter Sally likes to color on herself with markers. I tell her it’s her body, so it’s her choice. Sometimes she writes her name, sometimes she draws flowers or patterns. The other day I heard her talking to her brother, a marker in her hand.
“Bobby, do you mind if I color on your leg?”
Bobby smiled and moved himself closer to his sister. She began drawing a pattern on his leg with a marker while he watched, fascinated. Later, she began coloring on the sole of his foot. After each stoke, he pulled his foot back, laughing. I looked over to see what was causing the commotion, and Sally turned to me.
“He doesn’t mind if I do this,” she explained, “he is only moving his foot because it tickles. He thinks its funny.” And she was right. Already Bobby had extended his foot to her again, smiling as he did so.
What I find really fascinating about these two anecdotes is that they both deal with the consent of children not yet old enough to communicate verbally. In both stories, the older child must read the consent of the younger child through nonverbal cues. And even then, consent is not this ambiguous thing that is difficult to understand.
Teaching consent is ongoing, but it starts when children are very young. It involves both teaching children to pay attention to and respect others’ consent (or lack thereof) and teaching children that they should expect their own bodies and their own space to be respected—even by their parents and other relatives.
And if children of two or four can be expected to read the nonverbal cues and expressions of children not yet old enough to talk in order to assess whether there is consent, what excuse do full grown adults have?
I try to do this every day I go to nursery and gosh it makes me so happy to see it done elsewhere.
Yes, consent is nonsexual, too!
Not only that, but one of the reasons many child victims of sexual abuse don’t reach out is that they don’t have the understanding or words for what is happening to them, and why it isn’t okay. Teaching kids about consent helps them build better relationships and gives them the tools to seek help if they or a friend need our protection.
Teaching Consent to Small Children
I wish this post featured the OP’s name more prominently; it’s by Libby Anne of love joy feminism, and she writes fantastic stuff. A survivor of Christian patriarchal fundamentalism, she writes about parenting from the perspective of someone working through her own traumatic experiences. I love reading her blog.
that “you’re always invited” stuff doesn’t work for me you have to personally invite me or else I’ll feel like I’m showing up uninvited
Sounds like something a vampire would say
Little known fact that vampires have near crippling social anxiety.
“Conversion therapy” is child abuse. There is no gray area. There is no wiggle room. The fuckers who practice it are abusers. The fuckers who send their children off to be “converted” are abusers. Assholes who say “I wouldn’t do it, but that’s their right as parents” are abuse apologists.
It’s literally torture? The entire intention of the process is to torture the kid until they develop a mental disorder that causes them to be repulsed by anything they are attracted to. There is nothing else to it.
Fuck conversion therapy and everyone who supports it
my dad is a cop and i just called him and he was like “hey i have a 17 year old boy in the back of my cop car right now that i’m running him to the station” and i asked if he was cute and my dad said “Hey, my daughter wants to know if you’re cute” and the guy said “i want to say yes, sir” and my dad started laughing so hard
i need to find a husband and have a baby now
this is too much for me right now
