one of the hardest things to learn as a depressed former Gifted Kid™ is that half-assed is better than nothing. take the 50%, 40%, even 20% job. scrubbing your face is better than not taking a shower at all. picking up your clothes is better than never cleaning. nibbling on some bread is better than starving.
DO THINGS HALFWAY. NOW YOU’RE 100% BETTER OFF THAN YOU WERE BEFORE.
One of my college professors used to say “anything worth doing is worth doing poorly.” I didn’t understand that for years because I didn’t do anything poorly, I couldn’t do anything poorly, I had to Do Everything Perfectly.
But brushing your teeth for 30 seconds is better than not brushing them at all when that 2 minutes seems exhausting. Doing ten minutes of yoga is better than 10 minutes of sitting when 30 minutes of cardio sounds impossible. Changing my clothes is good when a whole shower is impossible. Standing on the porch for a few minutes is worth it after being in the house for three straight days because I don’t have the energy to go anywhere.
Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly… because doing it poorly is better than not doing it.
someone please hit me over the head with this post every day for like the next week thanks. a mention, a reblog with text, a message, something.

People against piracy fail to realize that no, I can’t just ‘buy it.’ They stopped making DVDs and Blu-Rays. They’re barely offering digital copies for download. I am not spending money I could use for food or bills to pay for a subscription service just so I can always have access to a beloved piece of media. Especially not when the service will remove media on a whim without concern for how the loss of access to that piece will make its artistic conservation nigh impossible.
For example, I recently learned that Disney+ had an original film called Crater. It’s scifi, family friendly, and seems cool - I would love to buy it as a holiday gift for my little brother! But: it’s exclusive to D+ and THEY REMOVED IT LITERALLY MONTHS AFTER ITS RELEASE.
The ONLY way I can directly access this film is through piracy. The ONLY available ‘copies’ of this film are hosted on piracy websites. Disney will NEVER release it in theaters, or as something to buy, and it may NEVER return to the streaming service. It will be LOST because we aren’t allowed to purchase it for personal viewing. If I can’t pay to own it, I won’t pay for the privilege of losing it when corporate decides to put it in a vault.
So yes, I’m going to pirate and support piracy.
Addendum: This is also a really good reason to support trust-busting. A lot of this obnoxious behavior is only possible because corporations wield monopoly power.
another addendum: most modern (4K UHD) blurays use a form of online DRM that requires the player software to access a server to get title specific decryption keys. you don't really own a film on one of those disks any more than you do on streaming, the only way to truly preserve it is to rip off the disks or from streaming, not even the physical media you can "buy" can necessarily be preserved anymore.
PIRACY ALWAYS HAS BEEN AND ALWAYS WILL BE MEDIA PRESERVATION
It's really important when you're at work to go out there and really give it your 60%. Maybe 35%.
One time my boss told a whole story about how if a person who made parachutes didn't give their job 100%, people would die.
I made the point that
There's probably a whole quality and compliance process for parachute assembly and it's not just one bloke in a factory making and distributing them.
We get a 30 minute lunch break and no company benefits.
We don't make parachutes.
I had a disciplinary meeting and then went back to giving them as much as they gave me.
No one died.
There's something all us old heads tell to new hires: Hard work is rewarded with more work.
Don't kill yourself for a company that'll gladly replace you by week's end
Some of the wisdom shared over in the Ask A Manager comments is that when you start a new job you should give it about 60 %, not more.
You will have good results and get through the trial period, but you won't exhaust yourself and burn out, you won't set up your coworkers to look bad in comparison if they simply can't go as fast as you and, very crucially, when you hit a rough spot in your life you will have automatic leeway built in and not fall behind and have people jump down your throat when you feel like shit.
I wanna highlight these tags from @jeannetterankin because yes- this is exactly where I was going with this
just stumbled across Francisco Soria Aedo’s work and first off: really good painter, super talented. He mainly did portraits and neoclassical but I really like are his expressions, which do show up in his neoclassical work. lots of people smiling and having fun and it’s just very cute
this is one of my favorites
heres a couple more examples!
…i dont thing I’ve ever seen this style with people smiling…
The reason it feels so post-modernist and odd to see wide smiles in this style is because showing teeth in classical art was considered lurid and too openly sexual (kinda like nipples in 2020 cough). Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun caused waves as a neoclassical painter in 1787 because her self-portrait featured her smiling with lips parted and showing a peek of her teeth. Since Francisco Soria Aedo was active around the 1930′s it was no longer an issue to show teeth in general yet it still serves as a subversion of the classical ‘look’.
The Beauty Of TV Anime Original episodes in Detective Conan
part 2 part 3
Even as grown-ups
I think everyone should read detective conan, we have
Incompetent police
Way too many teenage detectives
Multiple childhood friends to lovers who never get together
Incest
Plot relevant incest
Ridiculously complicated ways of killing your homies
Hot mysterious women with ulterior motives
Many interesting plot points that never get explored
It's been running for 30 years, has more content than fucking one piece, and you will cry reading it out of pure frustration because aoyama will keep it running for forever and it will never reach an ending
why is this the funniest thing ever
💀 that serious face
Got to work on a doodle celebrating s’mores recently! I’ve really wanted to do a 3D stop-motion(ish) project for awhile, so I was glad I was able to get this to work! You can check out the full slideshow [here!]
Many many thanks to Aivi and Surasshu who composed the music! As well as the musicians Jeff Ball, Stemage, and Preston Pofahl. They nailed the cozy vibe on the first go! 💕
Also, I had a lot of fun using a pasta machine to beat up the clay, and I would recommend it as a relaxing activity.
I hope everyone can enjoy some s’mores and the outdoors if you get a chance! 🍂🍫
AHHH OMG ITS AN OLIVIA ART?? I loved it and saved a screenshot only to now learn is ofc olivias art
genuinely i am furious about the fucking kaishin reveal from the most recent movie. its giving major vibes that the author didnt like how popular the ship was, so he made them cousins to try and get rid of it. i simply refuse to accept this as canon
I have been out of the fandom for a hot min and this twist happens 💀 i revived my tumblr just to see what ppl have to say LOL
And guess who is KID's favorite
Ill say it once and ill say it again, the bromances in detective conan are better than the actual hetero romances 😂😂😂
