I have been suspicious for a little while that it is not at all an accident that so many SJ community norms intensely discourage critical thinking and sourcing information and are so actively hostile to the values of traditional liberalism.
The Tumblr left doesn’t have the community antibodies to fight something like this. A bunch of people who don’t know each other IRL, combined with hiding behind the identity shield and accelerated by the taboo against tone policing - it was bound to happen. Their only mistake was using too many male avatars and not going after specific Hillary supporters for crimes against intersectionality.
It’s like a weird inverse of “using the master’s tools to dismantle the master’s house.”
I just… seeing lagonegirl in that article was wild, man
I mean I never liked lagonegirl much but I just thought “that person is overzealous” not “hi Russia”

I think it would be naive to think these are the only ones that are infultration accounts. One of my friends warned me awhile back some accounts I have been reblogging were suspiciously seeming to manufacture outrage over certain things and make people fight to fuck with them mentally and hate each other and I unfollowed every account reblogging those posts on my dash and suddenly my mental health got better.
Like I just suggest to people to when seeing outrage posts on your dash to pay attention to who is in that post and if you see trends blacklist their names. The sj trolls have gotten a lot smarter and a lot more horrible.
some rules of engagement for politics/news content: always click thru and actually /read/ the linked content don’t believe anything that’s not sourced to a reputable news site if a post is a summary with a lot of links read /all/ the links before reblogging distrust anything that seems to have the sole purpose of drumming up outrage don’t reblog something just because you feel like you ‘should’ /especially/ if you haven’t actually read the linked content us news from russia with lies

Okay… Doesn’t look like either I, or Tumblrs I followed, shared posts from the worst of the trolls … directly. But even so, the rhetoric got spread, and seemed to drown out everything else on my dashboard.
I was around, and actively engaged with the news, back when Hillary Clinton was first becoming active on the national political stage (When there was serious debate over the fact question of whether or not she could be trusted, because she wore pantsuits, and kept her maiden name).
And it was so surreal to see otherwise “True Leftist” blogs (who are still decrying the Democratic party for being Capitalist Scum), repeat – almost word-for-word – the same accusations that Republican apologists and pundits made against her 25 years ago. I tried to counter those arguments when I found them. But it was like trying to ski uphill in an avalanche.
This is your Reminder that our chance to flip the Senate and Congress (our only chance to impeach Trump) is coming up this November. And have no doubt. The Russian Trolls Will be At it Again. After all, it worked last time.
Stay alert.
