i guess my only issue with this event, and i don't actually think it's an issue, like i agree that the mechanics have to be the way, it's just like this, is that the first difficulty is fine for babyzailors, and the middle one is extremely doable and fun for players sort of midrailroad/evolution/roove, but the hardest one can very easily be insane even if you have every single piece of zeefaring gear that exists. like sure you can manage your troubled waters but sometimes the cards suck and you get there with like a 4 on the explodometer because you had to eat 2-3 cp of tw on every dang card all the way there and your reduction gear did not proc once. this happened to me last year but i think it was a 5 and in fairness i did do a single piracy but it was also capturing the ship. so like i'm rounding down on that basis, truth in griping, et c. [infomercial voice:] there's gotta be a better way!

it takes quite a bit of social intelligence for a creature to understand:

If I am quick I can plausibly pass one off as the other

these cats are displaying remarkable theory of mind skills by not only registering that the humans can perceive them but actively trying to manipulate that perception! that requires one to be aware that other individuals have complicated interior thoughts of their own, to know that those thoughts are not always based on truth, and to quickly decide on the best possible “lie” for the situation. this is why I despise animal intelligence tasks based on obedience— some of the most clever moments stem from intelligent disobedience.
