<div>*Update* - To date we have given out over 300,000 in assistance for rent and food to families in our community. Because of the constant
You might not recognize the name, but you've probably heard about Columbia Heights, Minnesota. This is the community from which Liam Conejo Ramos was taken. It's a small suburb right on the borders of Minneapolis, less than 3 sq. miles and less than 25K people. It is 20% immigrant, and 49% non-white. It's one of the hardest hit communities by Operation Metro Surge in Minnesota. Liam is only one of eight students taken by ICE. In the last few months, it has been host to up to 100 ICE and CPB agents every day.
The job they have done rallying around their neighbors has been amazing. And it hasn't been easy. People have been threatened by ICE for simply getting stuck behind a stop when ICE blocks the road. People who have spoken out about the out of control behavior of government agents have found those same agents sitting outside their homes, watching them. People have been followed, threatened with arrest and even with weapons.
And they could use some help. Even as the government claims Metro Surge is winding down (we'll believe they're leaving when they actually leave), there has been tremendous economic damage done top the community, as families have been forced into hiding and businesses forced to reduce hours or close for safety reasons. If you have a few dollars to spare, please consider helping support them. If we all do a little, it can add up to a lot.
