goodofthegalaxyâ:
He had been holding his breath without realizing it and let it out in a dry chuckle. âSome time is a good way to put it â so is different.â
Jacen was surprised that he could even speak at all at that moment in time. Before him was a sight he never thought he would see, something he never thought possible. He could see Tenel Ka in the girlâs features more than he could see himself and that both relieved him and saddened him at the same time. It was like looking at Tenel Ka and their daughter and it hit him even harder what he had ruined.
The sudden worry that she would run off hit him and he stayed where he was, shifting from a kneel to a sitting position on the floor ( his knees werenât what they used to be when he was a trainee bolting around the jungles of Yavin IV and he hated to admit that ) and placing his hands in his lap.
Prying with questions or through the Force about her and others was something he didnât want to do so he settled for something simple.
 âWhat are you doing here?â
He sat, and that was something of a relief because it put him in a more settled and stationary position, and something of a problem because it left Allana wondering if she should sit as well. She knew the Jedi Temple was more like her grandparents' house or her mother's private quarters, where sitting on the floor was allowed, even though it felt like a more formal place where it wasn't -- but she wasnât sure what the protocol was for this.
Was there a protocol for this? Hapes had protocols for just about everything, but Allana somehow doubted that even her most machiavellian royal ancestors had ever anticipated the situation of re-meeting oneâs once-secret father who had fallen to the Dark Side of the Force and almost destroyed both the whole galaxy and oneâs own family after he had returned to the Light Side.
Allana sat.
She didnât sit close, but she didnât sit far either.
âIâm in Jedi training,â she said in answer to his question. Of course, she almost added, what else do people do here? but the manners her mother had taught her held sway over the more sardonic temperaments to which sheâd been exposed during her years spent with her grandparents. Of course, those grandparents were her fatherâs parents, so perhaps she should have indulged the impulse.
âWhat are you doing here?â she asked, because of course there were other things that people did in the Jedi Temple, and Jacen was one of them.
