Love at first book x Harry Styles
requested by loveharrywithnailpolish : Hi :) Could you write a one shot where Harry Styles meets like the other person in a bookstore :)
Whenever [Y/N] saw a bookstore, she had to go inside. Because, you never knew what you would come across in a bookstore. [Y/N] had discovered some wonderful books that way. New releases, old, vintage books, and everything in between. Her house was almost a bookstore itself, but she loved it. The smell of books, the feeling of the light paper between her fingers, the beautiful words written on paper forever, and ever. Just everything about a book was magical to her. Of course she couldn’t resist going inside the bookshop she passed in London’s suburbs. It looked so cozy from the outside, and the piles upon piles of books really lured her inside. [Y/N] was actually on her way to meet a friend of hers, but it wasn’t a hard decision. When she pushed the door open, a doorbell rang, announcing her entrance in the store. She smiled at the store clerk behind the desk, and he gave a polite and welcoming nod back, before returning to reading his book. Soft piano music was playing in the background, while the typical smell of books welcomed her inside. [Y/N] closed the door behind her, eager to start looking through the, what seemed, endless piles of books. She picked up an interesting looking book, quickly skimming through it and reading the synopsis on the back. While she was thinking if she already owned the book or not, the person next to her cleared his throat, which made an awful lot of noise in the quiet bookshop. When [Y/N] looked up, she saw that the guy’s cheeks were a bit red. ‘That’s a wonderful book, actually,’ he pointed out, his voice sounding a bit hoarse as if he really had a sore throat. ‘I’ve read it a few weeks ago, and it really gave me an interesting perspective on things.’ ‘Oh did it really?’ [Y/N] smiled, looking at the books he was holding under his arms. She had the unfamiliar feeling that she knew his face from somewhere, but she couldn’t quit place it. ‘I was just thinking if it wasn’t in my collection already.’ She looked back at the book, trying to recall the title. ‘Ah, yes, a familiar problem,’ he laughed. ‘Also a frequent visitor?’ ‘Not this store, specifically. But I do love to buy books. Some might say I have a bit of a problem.’ ‘Oh well, books are always good to have. Maybe I should introduce myself, I’m Harry.’ He shifted his books a bit under his arm so he could stretch out his hand towards her. With a little smile she took his hand. ‘[Y/N].’ She introduced herself. ‘Nice meeting you, however I do have the faint feeling that I know you from somewhere … Do you happen to go to the Waterstones in Central London a lot?’ Harry shifted his weight a bit, letting go of her hand. ‘Oh, eh, no. That one is a bit … Too crowded for me.’ [Y/N] looked a bit more closely to him, probably making him feel very uncomfortable, but then it suddenly clicked – and she felt stupid that she hadn’t immediately seen it. ‘Now I know!’ She whisper – shouted. ‘You’re Harry, as in Harry Styles right?’ ‘Ssht!’ Harry motioned with his hands. You frowned, looking around to the empty store. The store clerk still hadn’t looked up from his book. ‘Sorry, I guess, that’s kind of a habit of mine. People, well especially girls, usually scream when they see me.’ ‘Yeah, I get why they would do that,’ she grinned, also blushing slightly because she felt kinda out of place, talking to someone that famous without even realizing it. ‘So, if you don’t know whether you want to get that book or not, can I recommend one for you?’ Harry asked, smiling a bit, as if he had been eager to ask that question since he first saw her. ‘That would actually be great. I never know what books to get, and it would be lovely to find some new books,’ [Y/N] smiled. Harry smiled, happy with her answer. ‘Really? Okay, great. So, I read this book last week and I think you would love it too.’ She followed Harry around the store, while he pointed out his favorite books. And the more he talked about all the stories, the more she started to get this weird, fluttery feeling in her stomach. And [Y/N] swore that she saw the same feeling in his eyes, sparkling right underneath the green color. After what seemed as ages, [Y/N] was holding a whole pile with books, that probably was way too expensive for her budget, but how could she not get them when Harry Styles himself recommended them? ‘Now I’ll certainly know what to do,’ she joked, walking towards the desk to pay the books. She took her wallet out of her purse, but Harry immediately protested. ‘Oh, no, you’re not paying for those, please. I urged you to get them, so it would be so decent from me to pay them for you,’ Harry smiled, pushing [Y/N]’s hand softly back into her purse. Harry placed his books next to hers on the desk, smiling at the man who looked up from his book. ‘Oh, hi Harry,’ he casually said, and stood up so he could scan the books. ‘Made a friend?’ The store clerk remarked, with a grin. ‘Yeah…’ Harry said, a bit uncomfortable, making [Y/N] smile. A bit of small talk was happening while the store clerk bagged up the books, and handed me over the bag after Harry payed. ‘Thank you,’ you smiled at him and then turned to Harry. ‘And thank you very much for the wonderful books.’ ‘Of course,’ he smiled. ‘But you have to let me know what you think of them. So,’ Harry took out his receipt and a pen from the desk, scribbling something on the back. He then handed it over to her. ‘When you’ve read to first one, I insist that we meet up again and talk about it.’ Harry smiled. She looked down, and saw his number written on the receipt. ‘I will,’ [Y/N] promised him. She tucked away the receipt in her purse. ‘Thank you, again.’ ‘No problem at all. Always happy to meet another booklover.’ With another smile, they said their goodbye’s again, and then finally separated their ways. [Y/N] back on her way to meet her friend – and she was way too late. But it was totally worth it. It wasn’t just Harry Styles she had met. She had met a wonderful person, that she shared one big interest with. And she couldn’t wait to read his recommended books. Now [Y/N] knew for sure that every bookstore was worth a visit.
