rb this with ur opinion on this shade of pink:
This is magenta, and not pink. Unlike pink, magenta doesnât actually exist. Our brain just invents magenta to serve as what it considers a logical bridge between red and violet, which each exist at opposite ends of a linear spectrum.
TL;DR this color is fake (and also I hate it)
Wait til you learn about Stygean Blue
Your brain is a badly-designed hot mess of bootstrapped chemistry that will tell you that all kinds of shit is happening that has no correlation to physical reality, including time travel. It just makes things up. Your brain is guessing about whatâs happening when your eyes saccade, whatâs happening in your blind spot, and what the majority of the visible light spectrum looks like, and you donât know itâs happening because it doesnât aid your survival to become aware that a lot of what you see is fake.
The human eye only has three types of color sensitive cones, which detect red, blue, and green light. Your brain is making up every other color you perceive.
Letâs have a little fun with that thought. This is the visible spectrum of light.
You will of course note that yellow is on the chart. Yellow has a discreet wavelength, and is therefore a distinct physical color. But we canât see it.
âSorry, what the fuck?â
What we call yellow is just what our brain shrugs and spits out when our red and green cones are equally stimulated. We have light receptors that can pick up on the physical spectrum of light we call yellow: thatâs why yellow things donât just look like moving black blocks to us. But your brain has no fucking idea what the color yellow looks like.Â
Some animals have eyes that can perceive the color yellow! Goldfish have a yellow cone in their eyes. If they could talk, they could tell us what yellow looks like. But we wouldnât be able to understand it.
What your brain actually sees of the color spectrum:
We can measure the wavelength of light, so we know that when we see âyellow,â we are seeing light in that 550-ish nanometers range. But we donât have a cone in our eyes that can pick that up. Your brain just has a very consistent guess about what color that wavelength of light could be. We decided to name that guess âyellow.â We canât imagine what yellow really looks like any more than a dog can imagine the color red.
Hereâs the funny thing: your brain is never perceiving just one photon of light at a time. Something like 2*10âž photons per second are hitting your retina under normal conditions. Your brain doesnât individually process all of them. So it averages them out. It grabs a bunch of photons all coming from the same direction, with the same pattern, and goes, âyeah, that cup is blue, fuck it, next.â
Thatâs how colors blend in our eyes. So sure, if a photon of light with a wavelength of 550 nanometers bounces into our eyes, we see what we call âyellow.â But if we see two photons at the same time, coming from the same object, one of which is 500 nms and the other of which is 600 nms, your brain will average them out and you will still see yellow even though none of the light you just saw was 550 nms.
So how does magenta factor into this?
Well, as weâve just established, when your brain sees light from two different slices of the visible light spectrum, it will try to just average them together. Green plus red is yellow, fuck it. If itâs more red than green, weâll call that âorange.â Literally who gives a shit, weâre trying to forage over here. There are bears out here and itâs so scary.
What happens if you take the average of blue and red light, which we perceive to be magenta? Whatâs the centerpoint of that line?
Fucking green.
Hey, thatâs not gonna work? We live on a planet where EVERYTHING IS GREEN. If something is NOT green, that means itâs either food, or a potential source of danger, and either way your brain wants you to know about it.
So your brain goes, WHOOPS. Okay - this is fine. We already made up yellow, orange, cyan, and violet. Weâll just make up another color. Something that looks really, really different from green.Â
And so it made up magenta.
So, physics-wise, is magenta âreal?â
No; thereâs no single wavelength of light that corresponds to magenta. But youâre rarely seeing only a single wavelength of light anyway. And even when you are, every color other than RGB is a dart thrown on the wall by your meat computer. This is the CIE Chromaticity Diagram:
Explaining this thing is a little more than I want to take on on a Saturday morning, but Iâve included a link above that goes into it a little more. The point is that only the colors that actually touch the âoutlineâ of the shape actually correspond to a specific wavelength of light. All of the other colors are blends of multiple wavelengths. So magenta isnât special.
Given that color is just a fun trick your brain is playing on you to help you find food and avoid danger, is magenta real?
Yeah, absolutely. Or at least, itâs just as real as most of what we see. Itâs what we see when we mix up blue and red. It would be disastrous from a survival standpoint to perceive that color as green, so we donât. Because itâs not green. Light thatâs green has a wavelength of around 510 nm. Stuff thatâs magenta bounces back light that is both ~400 and ~700. Your brain knows the difference. So it fills in the gap for you, with the best guess it has, same as it does with your blind spot.
The perception of color exists within your brain, and your brain says you see magenta. So you see magenta.
So I googled Stygian Blue andâŠ
Yall.
FORBIDDEN.
HOW TO SEE THE FORBIDDEN COLOURS
I have really bad vision, so my glasses have a very high prescription. In fact, theyâre thick enough that blues move around noticeably when I tilt my head (because physics). When I see magenta, I can tilt my head and see it split into blue and red on the edges. It actually gets kind of annoying when Iâm trying to figure out the color of a distant object.

âIâm not gonna vote blue ifâ âIâm not going to vote if that democratic candidate is pickedâ âmy vote doesnât matterâ- NO. No.
Can we NOT do this again.
Vote in your primaries and also VOTE BLUE NO MATTER WHO IF YOU WANT TRUMP OUT. I want to weigh the choices more but you know whatâs my #1 concern?
Getting Trump out of office. Let me remind you of what Trump has among other things done in the last four years:
put kids, actual children, in cages away from their parents without necessary medical care such as flu vaccines
said there are âpeople on both sidesâ in regards to a fucking Nazi rally
pardoned a man from charges who disproportionately targeted Latinos and even made prisoners eat rotten food if they protested conditions
removed protections for the environment in regards not just to global warming but also to pollution regulations and regulations on food safety, fucking food safety
Put his sons and daughters in charge of major political offices while refusing to fill or nominate people for multiple government offices and denying nepotism
Tweeted out false information in regards to a hurricane path and even altered a map with a marker sending many people into a panic
Questioned how vaccines are administered by saying he is âpro safe vaccinationâ, spreading false and ableist health information (and has previously said that vaccines cause autism)
Supported healthcare plans that would deny care for pre-existing conditions multiple times
Refused to put his assets in a blind trust in order to prevent a conflict of interest
Supported Alex Jones who, while he is fun to meme, did say (among lots of things) that the Sandy Hook shooting was a hoax
Pulled us out of the Paris Climate Agreement while appearing to have little to no understanding of what it even is
Stated repeatedly that climate change isnât real in spite of general consensus that it is in the scientific community
Engaged in âwhataboutismâ multiple times when confronted with difficult questions concerning the reality of what he was saying, most famously in regards to Charlottesville when he refused to condemn the Nazis who marched
Excused Saudi Arabia murdering a journalist because âoil!â
Has put us at risk of major war multiple times, and even as I write this is still not extending a key treaty with Russia in regards to nuclear weapons
Nominated and supported a judge for the Supreme Court, a position that lasts a lifetime btw, who responded to sexual assault allegations by throwing tantrums while questioned regarding the assault
Called Africa, Haiti, and El Salvador âshitholesâ
Is rated as having made 69% of at least somewhat false statements by Politifact
Look someone actually made a whole list going back before his presidency and they were way more detailed than I can be here without copy pasting it but a lot of it has to do with him sexually assaulting women so just take care of yourself if you read it
I know the electoral college - which if you did not know is the system in which our states choose our electors, who we often donât actually know the names of and are usually old white politicians - is bullshit because it is not a real democracy in anything but name, I know how frustrating it is to be a scared person not knowing whoâs going to win, but I remember four years ago when I heard all these excuses for âoh but voting is hardâ and we ended up with Trump and he is doing damage that will last for generations right now. I know this damage, this Trumpism, will outlive him. I know it sucks. A lot.
but for the love of everyone marginalized, fucking vote, and vote blue.
Get this monster out of this position of power and worry about the issues of who the nominated candidate is after we get this monster away from the power of the presidency.
People are dying and theyre going to continue to die this regime has marginalized people in a fucking stranglehold this is not a game and throwing your vote away is complicit behavior.
âThrowing away your vote is complicit behavior.â
VOTE! I cannot say this enough. Get out and vote. Our present and our future are in your hands. VOTE.
Come one, come all! All non-Wiccan Pagans are welcome!
.:: Defining Traditional Witchcraft ::.
What is Traditional Witchcraft?
According to Michael Howard, Trad Craft refers to âany non-Gardnerian, non-Alexandrian, non-Wiccan or pre-modern form of the Craft, especially if it has been inspired by historical forms of witchcraft and folk magicâ.
Traditional Witchcraft, therefore, is not a single monolith. We can, in fact, distinguish between:
Operative Witchcraft or Folk Magic
Ritual(istic) Witchcraft
This first difference is taken from Margaret Murray; she used the first term for indicating the practice of magic, as carried out by cunning folk and folk magicians, and included the non-religious practice of spells, charms, divinations, etc. âwhether used by a professed witch or by a professed Christian, whether intended for good or for evil, for killing or for curing. Such charms and spells are common to every nation and country, and are practised by the priests and people of every religion. They are part of the common heritage of the human race and are therefore of no practical value in the study of any one particular cult.â (The Witch-Cult, p. 11.)
The second term (also called âDianic cultâ by Murray) indicates, instead, âthe religious beliefs and ritual of the people, known in late mediaeval times as âWitchesâ. The evidence proves that underlying the Christian religion was a cult practised by many classes of the community, chiefly, however, by the more ignorant or those in the less thickly inhabited parts of the country. It can be traced back to pre-Christian timesâ. Therefore we can say that Ritual Witchcraft is the cult of pre-Christian Deities or Spirits connected to the witches.
While the ideas of Murray about this cult have now been discredited, other scholars have reopened this field as a viable area of study, discovering many ecstatic witch-cults. The most known academics in this field are: Carlo Ginzburg, Ăva PĂłcs, Emma Wilby, Claude Lecouteux, Wolfgang Behringer, Sabina Magliocco, GĂĄbor Klaniczay, Gustav Henningsen and Bengt Ankarloo.
Relying on the work of these scholars, we can say therefore that Ritual Witchcraft was/is the religious system surrounding the Sabbath, the Procession of the Dominae Nocturnae from house to house, the spiritual flight, Elphame, the Wild Hunt, the Night Battles, etc.
As we can understand, even if the majority of the Ritual Witches were/are also Operative Witches (practitioners of Folk Magic), not all the Operative Witches were/are also Ritual Witches. The majority of Folk Magicians/Operative Witches, in fact, didnât go to the Sabbath, didnât astrally fly, didnât astrally go with the Wild Hunt, from house to house with the Domina Nocturna, to Elphame/the Otherworld or to the Night Battles. Ritual Witches did.
We can say, therefore, that Operative Witchcraft is a practice, while Ritual Witchcraft is a religion.
Traditional Witches who are secular are, therefore, usually Operative and not Ritual Witches. While the distinction between Ritual and Operative Witchcraft is an established one in the Witchcraft community, I introduce a new, according to me useful, second distinction, inside Ritual Witchcraft (i.e. Witchcraft as a religion), by borrowing the terms âRevivalismâ and âReconstructionismâ from Polytheism, in which itâs an already established terminology:
Hereditary Witchcraft
Revivalist Witchcraft
Reconstructionist Witchcraft
Hereditary Traditional Witchcraft brings together all the traditions that claim a lineage from the Witchcraft of the past.
Revivalist Traditional Witchcraft is inspired by folklore, trials and the figure of the witch without any presumption of hereditarity. Unlike the Reconstructionist one, it leaves ample space for personal initiative and the influence of other traditions, without slavishly following the history in every single detail.
Reconstructionist Traditional Witchcraft, finally, tries to resume, starting from the in-depth study of folklore, historical trials and documents, the exact practices and beliefs of Historical Witchcraft. For example, the pantheon of Spirits, the festivities, the structure of the Sabbath, the structure of the offerings, and so on.
An important aspect for those who practice Reconstructionism is the resumption of the names of the Gods (or it would be more correct to say, of the âDeific Familiar Spiritsâ or âMajor Spiritsâ) forgotten and remained only in the trials papers and in folklore. The idea is to reopen roads, ways to these Spirits. Reconstructing therefore means paying homage to these Spirits and allowing those interested to re-establish a connection with Them.
We said before that Traditional Witchcraft is not Wicca. Whatâs the difference?
According to the Traditional Witchcraft author Lee Morgan:
âIt could easily be said that one of the major differences between the modern revival referred to as âTraditional Witchcraftâ and the other modern revival known as âWiccaâ, is that Traditional Witchcraft draws on âfolkloric materialâ and is largely âshamanicâ whereas Wicca is more of a fusion of Western Occult ceremonial and natural magic traditions.â

(Some) Ways to Celebrate Imbolc đđżđŻâš
đ wake up early and enjoy the sunrise!! the sun continues to grow higher in the sky, the spring is coming. appreciate and honor that fact if youâre able.
đ take a cleansing (ritual if you please) shower! whether you use scent corresponded soaps + body washes or just envision negativity being washed off and positivity being brought in, starting the day by cleansing away bad energy is a fabulous way to start in my book.
đ SPRING CLEANING! this is a perfect time to declutter and cleanse your space. get rid of anything and everything you donât need and even go through your room/house with sage or incense if you wish!
đ going with that ^, rearrange your altar if you please! create a fresh start by adding some colors/correspondents of the sabbat. whether you prefer more of the pastel pinks, yellows and purples to represent the growing flowers and spring days to come, or more reds, yellows and oranges to honor Brigid, the Goddess we tribute to on this day, there are so many possibilities to spruce it up!
đ take a nature walk!! this is alwayssss on my to do list when celebrating a sabbat, but i feel like itâs extra special on Imbolc. take time to look for signs of spring, flowers beginning to bloom, leaves starting to bud, snow slowly melting away. the sun is coming, better and brighter days are ahead.
đ LIGHT! CANDLES! Imbolc is also known as St. Brigidâs day and Candlemas, it is the absolute best time to light some candles, turn on the lights and open the blinds to let in the sunshine!
đ do some art!! Brigid is well known for her connection to arts and crafts and poetry, so let your artsy side shine. your creativity is at its peak this time of year, donât let those juices go to waste!
đ make a Brigidâs cross, a corn doll, or even a candle inspired by the spring! wrote a poem, create a playlist, honestly anything that makes you feel closer and more connected to the season, Imbolc and Brigid.
đ do a tarot spread connected to Imbolc! i adore sabbat themed spreads, i feel its a great way to get an idea of your life currently and allow yourself to take some time to grow, heal, balance, etc.
đ FOOOOOOD. dairy, bread, meat and seeds are very popular for this sabbat but please feel free to create delicious dishes that fit to your needs! i plan on making some honey bars or citrus cookies as i have more of a sweet tooth.
đ if you do cook something and would like to honor Brigid/the season/your personal deities, put some aside and offer it to them!
đ leave out SAFE AND ANIMAL FRIENDLY food for the local wildlife! as animals slowly start to reappear, honor them with a tasty treat. please always make sure it is safe before hand and donât leave anything that could harm the earth or those around you! fruits, vegetables and seeds are your safest bet.
đ create a vision board or a goal list!! i always think of new beginnings + opportunities when i hear of Imbolc, so now is a wonderful time to set some positive goals for yourself!! put this year in perspective and use what you created to work into your craft. need more love? healing? want to work on your focusing? now you know what spells/rituals/potions you should be working on.
đ PLANT SOMETHIN! itâs still quite cold where i am, but if youâre able plant some flowers or herbs! start up a beautiful garden to take care of this year. if itâs too chilly outside, start an indoor garden! there are plenty of herbs/succulents and such that can still manage to thrive with enough sunlight, water + love.
đ reflect. the winter months can be hard for all of us, so take this time to look back for a minute and realize that light and positive times are ahead. please donât dwell on the past, but rather see how far youâve come and plan on how you want to better yourself in the upcoming year.
i hope this post allows you to become inspired for your Imbolc celebrations. i would LOVE to hear what you personally do to celebrate this incredible sabbat if youâd like to chat about it đ blessed be my lovelies!!
Bird Symbolism
So I was looking out my window and saw two birds and the idea of making a list of symbolism associated with types of birds came to mind. My mom always taught me if you see an animal -especially if they are doing something out of the ordinary- you should take it as an omen. So hereâs a list of some basic birds, some of the associations are personal but I hope you like it!
Blue Jay-the truth will be revealed, high energy, playfulness, clarity and communication.
Cardinal-hope, joy, good health, some associate them with angels or deceased love ones, passion and warmth.
Crow-often associated with magic and witches, transformation, power, intelligence and mystery.Â
Duck-friendships, new friends, happiness, good fortune and protect against negative energies âwater off a ducks backâ :)
Dove-peace, harmony, joy, love, might be telling you to break away from a toxic situation, think positive, often associated with Aphrodite or Jesus or Angels
Eagle-power, leadership, freedom, adventure, breaking free.
Hawk-Â common as spirit guides, courage, protection, and awareness.Â
Hummingbird- I adore hummingbirds and often associate them with faeries. Creativity, joy, love and beauty. Can be a sign that you are moving too fast in life and need to take a break.
Magpie-Magpies represent duality because seeing them can be really good or really bad, I know itâs confusing :/ Seeing a magpie can be a good luck omen and new oppurtunities will appear. They also represent illusion and trickery, maybe someone is being a two-faced friend to you.Â
Owl-Â wisdom, associated with the goddess Athena, intuition, spiritual exploration, change, observation and intelligence.
Raven- associated with the nordic god Odin, mystery, magic, fae magic, knowledge, mischieve, and can be seen as a death omen (but can also mean change)Â

9 Practical Tips for New Witches
1.  Write down a list of your current passions, interests, goals, and beliefs. Knowing this information can help you to develop your witchcraft and to make it more personal.  Itâs important to feel a deep connection to your own style of craft, so it is incredibly helpful to incorporate the things that you love in life. While itâs a good idea to think of and list serious things, itâs 100% okay if your list mostly contains entries like âshiny things, stuff that smells good, My Chemical Romanceâ; you should definitely add entries like that, because that right there still tells you that youâll probably enjoy using reflective objects, aromatherapy, and music in your witchcraft.  The entries on your list can help you to creatively think of ways to make your magick yours, while still helping you to identify any pre-existing styles and paths of witchcraft that incorporate elements of your list.
2. Â Keep a regular journal, along with any magick journals that you might have. Â Keep track of your health, your dreams, your moods, your habits, your life in general. When you are first starting out, it can be difficult to automatically see how magick affects you. Â By keeping a mundane, regular journal, youâre better able to reference past events against your magick journals, to see if any changes or unusual entries (negative or positive) occurred at the same time as something witchcraft-related.
3. Â Sign up for as many guided nature walks and talks as you can. Â Itâs always a good idea to know the nature around you, especially if youâre a witch. Guided walks and talks can give you first-hand experience when it comes to identifying plants, animals, and other things that you can find in your area. If it is allowed, remember to bring along a camera and / or a notebook so that you can record and reference your new knowledge afterwards.
4. Â Take an interest in cooking. Â This is an especially good tip for any witches that are looking to hide their witchcraft. Â Learning to cook is a life skill, and doesnât tend to draw unwanted attention. Â The food, herbs, and spices that you use all have their own magickal correspondences and associations, so it really comes down to figuring out some ingredients that match your magickâs intent, and then finding an actual recipe that calls for those ingredients. Â
5. Â Start your own garden, no matter how small. Seeds can be affordable purchased at most stores with gardening centers, and you can grow some herbs in a leftover tin can. Â Really, you donât need a lot of space or cash to be able to start some sort of garden, whether indoors or outdoors. Â Just make sure that wherever you are planting, you have permission to plant there!
6. Â Develop your DIY skills. Â Crafting, sewing, upcycling â spend some time learning about the âDo It Yourselfâ culture. Â Aside from being an excellent way to learn how to create your own tools and witchy stuff, a lot of the skills that you will learn can be incorporated into your spells. Â So can any supplies that you have on hand for regular arts and crafts, for that matter. And when you get right down to it, nobody has to know that your handmade lavender lip-balm is actually an enchanted item and a dual healing / beauty spell. Â Making anything by hand helps to give it power, and can be another great way to practice witchcraft under-the-radar; unless you literally announce that your felt-and-an-old-sock plushie is actually a poppet, how can anybody know?
7. Â Find places to source your witchy ingredients and supplies. Look up and scout out any local:
o  Book stores
o  Box stores (like Walmart, Target)
o  Craft stores
o  Dollar stores
o  Farm stands
o  Farmerâs markets
o  Flea markets
o  Garden stores / Nurseries
o  Libraries
o  Hiking trails
o  Metaphysical / New Age stores
o  Rockhounding locations
o  Tea / herb stores
o  Thrift stores
o  Rock / crystal / mineral shops
8. Â Build a non-fiction library. Â Cookbooks, how-to books, field guides, books that teach you skills. History books, scientific magazines and journals, textbooks on any topic. Â Read about first-hand accounts, theories and practices, facts and trivia. Read educational books meant for kids, and encyclopedias meant for months of study. Â Donât be afraid to check your material against a different source, either. Â Finding multiple sources citing a piece of knowledge is a good habit to develop, especially if your knowledge deals with the safety or danger of anything. Â Whether it was posted online or published in a book, make sure that the authorâs information is accurate!
9.  Collect and upcycle bottles, jars, tins, and other storage.  Itâs a running joke here on Tumbler: âwitches love jarsâ. But wow is it an accurate joke.  There have been a couple of times that Iâve come home with new loose supplies like shells or acorns, only to stand there and realize that literally all of my other storage is taken and that unless I want to stick them in a plastic bag, I have to temporarily store them by taking the last few Piroutte cookies out of the tin and giving it a quick cleaning (and now you know the exact moment that I thought of posting about this tip! lol).  Practicing witchcraft can be a really quick way to turn into a self-powered miniature recycling plant; itâs a lot cheaper to clean that jelly jar than it is to go buy an actual Mason jar, and itâs usually better for the environment as well ^_^
