about.
born in LA to a music producer mom and actor dad, the second youngest of six. their relationship was falling apart well before lawrence was born over scheduling conflicts and jealousy as julia's career thrived and manu's waned, but they stayed together well past their expiration date for appearances' sake.
they finally called it quits when lawrence was six. manu got full custody and moved all of his kids down to aurora bay, where he grew up. julia helped set them all up in a house before going back to her life in LA, and her visits were sporadic — sometimes lawrence wouldn't see her outside of christmas for an entire year.
manu did his best, but he was overwhelmed bearing the responsibility of six kids without a present co-parent and was still coming to terms with the failure of his career. lawrence's grandparents ended up being more present parental figures for the first few years.
lawrence doesn't have any angst about his parents' divorce, but their lack of presence in his childhood definitely made him attention-seeking from an early age on top of the competitive spirit that seemed to run in the family. all of the savea kids were born within eighteen months of each other and ran either extremely hot or extremely cold with one another, with very little in-between. best friends one minute, mortal enemies the next.
lawrence got to know his mom through her music, and instead of resenting her in-and-out presence in his life, it only made him idolize her more. he took up guitar lessons, and whenever she did show up or made the occasional call, he would keep her locked onto him for as long as he could to show off everything he'd learned.
he was trying to convince anyone with even a shred of musical talent to start a band with him by the time he was in middle school, but he was definitely too intense about it for anyone who humored him. he and his best friend baby went from group to group, with lawrence always swearing that this next one would be the one.
he graduated high school with absolutely average grades in everything except music, and he gave AB college a try for a single semester before dropping out to focus on making music full-time. his mom even hosted him and his then-band members in LA for a couple of weeks to work on a few songs and lay down a demo. it got a few hundred thousand listens on soundcloud, which felt like the biggest deal in the world at the time.
between shifts at the movie theater, his life was all about feeling good and making music. he lived at home, dipped in his trust fund (all of the money was made available to him at eighteen, which was probably a mistake on his parents' part) when he wanted to, partied, made music.
eventually, baby and lawrence got the gang back together and turned hot stuff, the band they formed at fifteen, into pookie, and things actually started to take off. baby's longtime gig at sharky's landed them some opening acts, and their first ep was made largely in lawrence and baby's DIYed garages-turned-studios. a full album followed to huge success. pookie was signed, then embarking on a mini-tour as a supporting act, but it's not enough for lawrence yet.
he'll say he's trying not to let the attention get to his head, but it already has. he still has his shitty minimum wage job at the movie theater and people to bring him back down to earth when he floats too far away, but his ego's definitely swollen.
personality
+ gregarious, passionate, loyal
- vain, competitive, flighty
tidbits.
he's in a weird place as a semi-nepo baby, as in he's extremely sensitive to the label while constantly trying to downplay it. he gets his mom's advice on everything pookie makes, but he refuses to ask her for any material help that would open himself or the band up to criticism.
after pookie got back from tour, he finally moved out of his dad's place and got himself a one-bed in ocean crest.
is very much doing that thing where rich people act like they're poor. don't ask him about how he bankrolled most of pookie's early endeavors
definitely should've been fired from his movie theater job forever ago but...just hasn't been. he's constantly abandoning the counter to sit in the back row of whatever's playing for as long as he can get away with
absolutely welcomes the parasocial relationships that have already started to form with pookie's fans. adds a few of them to his close friends story sometimes for shits and gigs
can't drive and doesn't ever want to learn how to drive. he has a bike and one of those fuckass electric scooters but otherwise pays for ubers everywhere
him and his baby sister noa are the closest of any of the savea kids. he in equal parts wants to kill her and would kill for her at any given moment
top five most listened to artists on his spotify wrapped last year were talking heads, anamanaguchi, bad bunny, the breeders, and dolly parton. a lil bit of everything
connections.
