World building and working on the fae. Specifically the changelings, the Fae courts, and the main realm. (Just imagine this written by someone in the universe)
The Fae Wylds is a strange realm of magic which seems to defy all rules of the Primal Realm which humans, elves, dwerfs, and most races come from. It's believed that Wylds are the reason for several folktales created within settlements stationed near forests such as children disappearing in the forest only to reappear years later without a single thing changing about them as recently learned people and animals from the Primal Realm who enter the Fae Wylds cannot age whilst there, though they can still very much be harmed physically, mentally, and emotionally.
But like us men of the Primal the fae still suffer from the urge for power and claim with this being most prominent within the Fae Courts which the following will list and then next I shall be documenting my discoveries of one of the many inhabitants of the Wylds
There are multiple courts but the two that primarily rule the fae wylds which are referred to by the non-fae as The Court of Umbra and The Court of Lux.
The two court fae names are both unpronounceable and incredibly difficult to write for non-fae but they roughly translate to The Court of Night and The Court of Light. Each Court has several different courts underneath it which could be considered noble houses similar to those within the Human kingdoms and the Dwarven kingdoms.
The smaller courts as stated are courts that act similarly to nobles houses within the Primal Realm, being used to maintain regional stability and govern their given territory on behalf of their primary court. These courts often don't have names like the Court of Umbra and Lux normally being named after the current 'Lord' of said court (Note: Lord is the term used by non-fae refer to the leader of the Court for the reason why we don't call them by their Fae name look at the Court of Umbra and Lux true names for reason why)
(Note: I was unable to get many notes on them due to the fact this court appears rather hostile to non-fae and fae so most of what I've gathered has either been gathered from word of mouth, or from what little I have been able to encounter without a blade to the throat or what I assume are threats)
The Court of Umbra or Night is the court that appear to represent the dark, screats, and quiet with their half of the Wylds appearing to have a bone chilling feel though the main forests appear to be as you'd expect if one were to happen dig a little you'd find a strange corruption to it as it responding to the feelings and actions of its inhabitants. Though there are few fae that live outside the major cities and settlements of the Court of Umbra which is reasonable considering some of the creatures within the area and according to a hunt from the Court of Lux the animals within the controlled areas appear to be more hostile than normal which from personal experience, I can confirm.
The fae of the Court of Umbra are rather similar to the Dark and Moon elves of the Primal Realm though much taller, with wings, eyes of either pitch black or silver with some appearing to even have tails.
The Court of Lux or Light is currently the most open to non-fae with the court representing light, freedom, and music. With their half of the Fae Wylds having a similar feeling to a midsummer day throughout it, the main forests are rather beautiful. There are several different settlements throughout the forest though unlike Primal Realm settlements these settlements are integrated within the forests. Despite the beauty of the Court of Lux side of the Fae Wylds it's still as dangerous with different creatures within it being willing to kill and being as hostile as some animals you'd see in the Primal Realm forests.
The fae within the Court of Lux are similar to the Sun and Wood elves of the Primal Realm. Though similar to Umbra Fae's they're much taller with wings though some gold and or silver markings on their bodies and instead of black or silver they usually have pure yellow or green eyes.
One of the most common entities you'd see within the Wylds are Changelings, entities with the ability to change their form and voice to anything or anyone with there being two different subspecies of changelings
Lux Changelings are pale humanoid figures who often appear either feminine, masculine, or in between along with their height being changeable at will. They often have some form of animal feature which can range from a plume of feathers to claws similar to cats or simple things such as eyes similar to a cat or teeth similar to a predator. (Note: It appears that Lux Changelings appear to have easier times perfectly transforming into animals or Beastfolk compared to people like humans, elves, or dwarf's I.e Dragonkin, Kobolds, Nekomatas, Harpies). Lux Changelings within the Court of Lux are treated rather well being treated as your usual citizens.
Umbra Changelings are humanoid in form but not in appearance. They are usually tall figures with pale insectoid entities with white endoskeletons. They have no nose or ears and usually four eyes with either red, green, or purple eyes. They normally appear to not have mouths though they do! They have mandibular mouths that blend in on their face. (Note: Umbra Changelings are similar to Lux Changelings in having difficulties in transforming into certain things primarily animals say for insects while having easier times transforming in humans, elves, dwarfs, and certain types of beastfolks).
Now I was unable to encounter any Umbra Changelings during my travels within the Umbra side of the Wylds though I managed to encounter and speak to an Umbra Changeling who was living within a city within the Lux side of the Wylds. Umbra Changelings are treated rather... poorly to say the least often being used as slave labor, attack dogs, and more with many escaping to the Court of Lux. (Note: I also learned that the Court of Umbra was formerly a good force within the Wylds though changed upon the new Lord taking control)
