• Use the hand you write with.

• Make a fist with your thumb outside, not tucked inside. If it’s tucked inside your fist, when you punch someone, you might break your thumb. The thumb goes across your fingers, not on the side.

• Don’t be like in the movies—don’t aim for the face. Face punches don’t usually stop people, and you can miss when they duck their head or break your hand on their jaw. If you want to get away quickly, or end a fight, aim for the chest, or the ribs. If you really want to do some damage, e.g., you’re being attacked, aim for the throat, which will make it hard for your attacker to breathe for a hot minute.

• When you punch, you want to aim and hit with your first two knuckles. Not the flats of your fingers, and not your ring or pinky knuckles, which can break more easily. You can use your weight, if you’re on your feet, to add wallop, and spring into a punch with your feet and torso.

Other good pointers:

if your attacker is male, go for his junk - especially if he’s wearing loose pants. There’s no sportsmanship when it comes to assault so fuck them balls UP

punching pretty much ANYWHERE in the face is going to actually hurt you a LOT (just think - you’re punching your bones into their bones and ow). If you’re going for the face, my suggestion is to strick upwards with your palm.

see that meaty portion highlighted in red? There’s a lot of muscle and fat right there which makes it excellent for striking. Hold your hand as shown and aim for the nose or chin (though I’ve been told in extreme circumstances, doing this to the nose can be fatal but I’ve never really heard if this is true or not) and just aim upwards

other delicate areas: 

the shin (hurts like a bitch if you kick it right - also, you can hit this spot if you’re being held in a choke-hold and if your attacker has to move in order to stop you from kicking him, he’ll have to angle his body so as to expose his stomach and crotch to the wild spastic jabbings of your elbows)

the solar plexus (either jab while holding your hand in a sort of spear position or use your elbows - unless you’re super strong, your punch probably won’t wind your attacker. Your elbow or a spear hand will, however)

Originally in (most) martial arts, you hit the solar plexus because it supposedly contained an important chakra. Now we know that it actually also contains like a bunch of necessary organs that are exposed just below your ribs and is also (roughly) where your diaphragm lives so getting punched there is not pleasant.

the clavicle (from experience, getting hit in your clavicle HURTS LIKE A MOTHERFUCKER. If you strike downwards with your knuckles, the person might just cry. Like I did.)

the ear (this is probably the best place to punch besides the throat. It’s all cartilage so it probably won’t hurt you all that much and most people will be like “DUDE YOU PUNCHED ME IN THE EAR WHAT THE HELL”)

the kidneys (this is harder to hit without training but if you somehow get your attacker’s back to face you, try to hit’em in the kidneys. Again, from experience, this FUCKING HURTS. You can’t really hit the kidneys from the front with any effect but from the back it is super painful)

if you’re held in a choke-hold, try turning your head so the forearm isn’t pressed into your throat. If you can position yourself right, you can sort of force your chin into the crook of the elbow, making you able to still receive (limited) oxygen and provide time for you to kick some shins or elbow some spleens and shit

-Also, remember that a guy’s junk is not an off-button. Don’t think that you can rely on a swift kick to the balls to immediately incapacitate him in an emergency. Adrenaline and anger can keep somebody going for a long time even through extreme pain, and if you expect to end a fight with a single groin-attack you might be caught off-guard when he doesn’t drop. Certainly go for it if you get the chance, but keep hitting him until the fight is over.

-Draw blood if you can, especially if you can draw it from the face or the eyes. Blood in the eyes is not just a good way to impair your attacker’s vision, it’s also a really good way to freak them out and let them know that they might be getting more than they bargained for by picking a fight with you.

-Elbows and knees are really powerful weapons. Elbows are very sharp and very strong and if you are in close-range they are often more effective than trying to throw a punch. 

-Yelling and shouting makes you scary.

If someone gets you from behind and you cant punch them, go for the underside of the upper-arm. A bad pinch there is legit so painful because that skin is super sensitive. Also this cant be stressed enough, if the attacker is a guy then fucking rip his junk off.

“Bouquet of Roses”

And last but certainly not least, my lovely Rosaline Fox is finally finished! Like with all our other beautiful roses in the garden, I took the liberty of adding and properly defining details to Rose’s Bouquet gown during her refinement. Such as adding a gown appropriate version of her trademark rose choke collar that you might spot during my earlier squiggle sketches of her. I also gave her a rose in her hair as well since I noticed that I fashioned all the other Roses’ hairstyles with their respective roses except my own so definitely fixed that. Now the set is complete and completely cohesive.

In terms of what’s next for the Bouquet: there is a second batch of character designs followed by a couple of illustrations with the full cast. Not much. Just one or two. Keeping it simple but spontaneous.

For those asking if my Bouquet of Roses is a RWBY AU or not; the honest answer to that is that it’s more of a personal fan project based on a tiny premise: Oscar is a golden Rose prince with a bouquet and for every rose in that bouquet, it represents one of the girls in the Garden of Roses inclusive of the canonical Ruby Rose and the fan-made Team FRHR consisting of Rosaline Fox (by me), Rosaline Hood (by @lythecreatorart,) Rosalind Fox (by @che1sea-xiao-long) and Ianthe Regime of Reconciliation (by @miki-13).

And just to further clarify; NO! This is NOT a harem for Oscar. Nothing against harems. This bouquet just isn’t one. It isn’t Oscar dating all five of these girls while the audience is unsure of who he loves. It’s more him being in love with Ruby Rose (as always) and the other Roses are from a multiverse of characters inspired by a Pinehead headcanon where Oscar had another Rose in his Little Prince story besides Ruby. 

This fake Rose doubles as both a rival for Oscar’s affections while also acting as an unlikely ally to help Ruby realize her true feelings for Oscar; all the while both Roses continue to look out for our precious freckled farm boy. I know that was a mouthful to absorb but for better clarification, just read this post right here and you’ll get the full gist.

Back to the Bouquet; you’re more than welcome to see it as an AU if you wish just as much as you’re welcome to create your own fanart and fan-content inspired by it. But speaking for myself, I’m mainly treating this as one small project in a list of Oscar-centric fan art ideas with squiggly RWBY OCs I’d love to contribute to the FNDM and Pinehead community when I can.

This squiggle meister honestly just wanted to draw some fancy fairy-tale inspired dress designs for the Garden of Roses and maybe create some cool art with those designs with a glimmer of a story. Maybe. 

If other designs, characters and illustrations that look like they are telling a story happen to pop up on my blog from this project of mine then ok. But for now I’m going to treat this as I originally planned it to be. 

Just my way to create something cool that’s focused around my favourite RWBY character and my favourite RWBY ship where I get to draw them together with four lovely original characters created by myself and a few friends. This project is meant to be loose and fun and I’m gonna keep it that way until I’ve completed the goal I set out. Let’s see how it goes.

For my fellow Beta-Testers wondering where the refined designs for Whitley and Penny are, don’t worry. They’re coming. Those two will be featured as part of my next batch of refined Bouquet character designs. 

I may even take another crack at drawing our Prince Oscar. I don’t draw my favourite farm boy turned barn prince enough so any excuse to do that is a given. But we shall see. For now I’m just glad to say that Oscar’s Bouquet is finally finished. 

This project started with that first rough sketch with all the Roses together and now all five Roses have been reworked and are looking fabulous.

Looking forward to working on the next set of Bouquet characters. In the meantime, hope you guys have enjoyed following this first phase.

I thought of this from looking at specific anime involving school girls like K-On! and Love Live! I was also thinking of how our personality traits might be like.

Ruby catches his hand and drags him in the opposite direction, out of bed. “Come on, sleepyhead, you have to see this!”

She always did bounce back quickly, a voice consoles him in the back of his head.

But Oscar shakes his head and smiles at her strong back, as he stumbles after her, doing his best to keep up with her semblance partially activated in her excitement. No. This is just Ruby being Ruby; optimistic and bright, refusing to let things get to her when she’s done the impossible before. There’s always a plan, and even if she hasn’t figured out the steps yet, she still trusts that they’re there.

Ruby knows the path she’s walking on, even when she cannot see the ground.

“Come see,” she says, stopping abruptly by the window, and pulling the curtains back with a flourish. “Welcome to Vacuo!”

Sunlight falls from a clear blue sky in late afternoon, its gold spreading across a flourishing city that stretches out down the hillside, along a sparkling blue river and up another hill to three large triangular buildings. Pyramids, his inherited memory supplies. Their smooth white surface lead up to three massive golden tips pointing towards the sky, and cast long azure shadows, reflecting the vast blue of the sky onto the desert floor.

Oscar stares at it in awe.

This isn’t Mistral, or Atlas. There is no visible hierarchy in the city, no gated societies or separated quarters, no physical dividers between people. This feels more like Vale.

Like home, the voice he recognizes as Ozpin’s now supplies.
