FUCKKKKKKK what if something bad happened and I forgot to worry about it
The thing is nobody at pride is evaluating you to determine if you’re queer enough to be there because they’re too busy thinking “it’s so hot out” and “why is this lemonade 12 dollars?”
Occasionally forget people genuinely think capitalism is thousands of years old
One time I was talking about Robin Hood with some coworkers and one guy was like “he was bad because the people he helped learned to expect handouts” and I wanted to be like… okay can you explain how that flawed capitalist propaganda applies to feudalism
reminder that capitalism was literally invented in the 16th century
That’s an exaggeration. What was invented in the 16th century was mercantilism. Capitalism really dates for the beginning of the nineteenth century, with the rise of industry and cash crops over artisans and merchants. Vulture capitalism, with the notion that companies have no duties other than generating profit, is even younger.
Capitalism is only 200 years old and I have to say, they have not been an impressive 200 years
I think a lot of this comes from the fact that most people don’t know the formal definition of capitalism. We all know the word, we’ve all seen the jokes, but very few people bother to actually define it unless they’re talking about political theory and philosophy, so it’s easy to end up with the impression that Capitalism = Money Can Be Exchanged For Goods And Services.
Capitalism is the economic system where most of the means of production (i.e. everything people need to have to make the stuff that everyone wants) are owned by private individuals or corporations, who then hire people to provide the labor necessary to produce things, with the intent of selling the output at a profit. It’s the difference between “you’re a carpenter and you make a chair and you sell it” and “you’re Richard Q. Richington who owns a chair factory, and you pay people to sell the chairs you paid other people to make and then all the excess money goes back to you.” There have been Richard Q. Richingtons on and off throughout history, but that being the norm for every single industry is a pretty recent development.
An alarming amount of people seem to think capitalism = all trade, and I don’t think that’s a coincidence.

We regret to inform you that the sunshine and friendship app is actually a children killing app.
I have been telling people for years that the company behind Pokemon Go had no-shit, for-realsies ties to the CIA and people never really took it that seriously. Anyway.
its spilled milk now but over a decade ago I was telling people not to use snapchat filters because they were training facial recognition. it sounds like conspiracy shit but these funny little programs on your phone, especially anything that uses your camera or your location (god forbid both!) needs to be treated with utmost skepticism.
Scam accusations get thrown around far too easily. Simply asking for money is not the same as scamming. A scam involves deception, lying, misrepresenting one’s identity, or failing to deliver on promised exchanges, such as unfulfilled orders, or identity theft. That’s what defines a scam.
When someone is transparent about their situation, clearly explains what they need, and is honest about how the money will be used, there is no deception involved. You may choose not to give, but calling it a scam is inaccurate. It’s not fraud. It is simply a plea for help.
Would you call someone a scammer for sharing a registry or a wishlist? Of course not because there’s no deception involved. They’re simply stating what they want or need and giving others the option to contribute. That isn’t scamming; it’s just a request.
if usamerican soldiers are evil due to advancing america as an imperialist state, how are sex workers or other workers in industries people are trafficked into different when it comes to helping a horrible thing develop like that? why are marxist feminists inclusive of sex workers but not veterans and soldiers?
There are two ways of interpreting your ask here.
One is that we should see the volunteer soldiers of the imperialist US military as akin to victims of human trafficking. This is ridiculous. US soldiers absolutely know what they are getting into, even if they may change their minds later down the line. The conditions of military service are laid out ahead of time, US soldiers are more than able to communicate with the outside world and most soldiers already know one or more people in the military to begin with and are capable of talking to them and learning what military service is like. Does the military make it seem as if military service is more glamorous or fulfilling than it actually is? Certainly. But the same goes for job recruiters in any industry. Human trafficking is not merely any instance in which your employer lied to you about the job.
Additionally, this comparison to sex trafficking is all the more outrageous considering the infamous number of rapes, assaults, and murders committed by US armed forces in and around foreign military bases (all of these sources are sympathetic to the US, which only goes to show how pervasive the issue is for pro-US sources to call it out):
Women and the U.S. Military in East Asia, Foreign Policy In Focus, March 1, 1999
From Guardian Angels to Pests to Korean: The United States Forces and Their Criminal Acts in Korean Society, Advances in Applied Sociology, April 2016
Okinawan rights ignored as military crimes persist, East Asia Forum, August 20, 2025
The other interpretation is to assert that victims of human trafficking are just as complicit in the effects of human trafficking on communities as imperialist volunteer soldiers are in the effects of war. This interpretation is nothing more than the worst kind of victim blaming. Human trafficking victims are not volunteers. US soldiers are not so downtrodden that joining the military is the only choice they have. US soldiers are in fact responsible for the very same poverty in periphery nations that leads to widespread human trafficking in the first place, most infamously in recent memory in Libya where open-air slave markets have emerged following the US-backed coup against Gaddafi and extensive US military intervention.

ohhhh shit. target is recalling their up & up baby wipes (fragrance free & fresh cucumber scented) because they're contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli, multiple people are reporting discoloration & infections. i just got a call about it cuz i had purchased those but i've already gone through them 😅 so no refund for me. but im fine. if you have these they're saying you need to immediately stop using them and bring them back to target for a full refund. this bacteria can cause life threatening infections in children/infants and people with compromises immune systems (ESPECIALLY cystic fibrosis!!) and i know lots of other chronically ill people follow me!!!!
Hold on i should've been more specific.
First: THIS RECALL IS NOT STATE SPECIFIC. IT IS NATIONWIDE.
here are the specific products and dates:
FDA page on this:
Target is voluntarily recalling Up & Up Fragrance Free and Up & Up Fresh Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes following customer complaints of produc
Yes! This recall is ONLY concerning the fragrance free & the fresh cucumber baby wipes by up&up. It does not seem to have contaminated any of the other wipes.
Also, for clarity: Recall was announced on June 4th, 2026. Target has been calling for the past few days dover then. CHECK THE DATES AND CODES LISTED ON THE FDA PAGE! Those are the specific batches contaminated. Anything else should be safe.
okay i'm reading the semantics chapter of my language development textbook now and i know i've already posted a bit about the wacky methods researchers have employed to test infants' and toddlers' linguistic knowledge, but this is a really fucking great one.
so they were trying to figure out if children use syntactic knowledge to learn new vocabulary, specifically in this case they were researching two year olds. with verbs, some are done to a person ("x hit y") and some only have a doer ("x laughed"), and they wanted to see if these different sentence structures had an effect on how toddlers learn.
they got some grad students, put one in a rabbit costume and one in a duck costume. they had the rabbit repeatedly push the duck into a crouching position using their left hand. at the same time, both the rabbit and the duck were moving their right hands in a repetitive circling motion. they had a bunch of two years olds watch this. with half of the kids, they said "the rabbit is gorping the duck!" and with the other half, they said "the rabbit and duck are gorping!" afterwards, they showed two videos at the same time to the kids, one with the rabbit pushing the duck down but no circling motion, and one with both making the circling motion but no pushing. then they said "where's gorping now? find gorping!" and the kids who had heard the first statement would consistently look towards the video of the pushing motion, while the kids who heard the second statement would consistently look towards the video of the circling motion.
so it provided good evidence that kids do learn new words using their knowledge of sentence structure! my textbook says it's called the "syntactic bootstrapping hypothesis", which is also a fun term. anyway, i just think it's a fucking hilarious way to have tested this. imagine being a linguistics grad student and your advisor is like "hey i got this furry suit. i'm gonna need you to put this on for research purposes."
9 out of 10 times I see people on here celebrating a new "landmark piece of anti-AI legislation" the legislation in question is inevitably some variation of "we propose making IP laws more restrictive but presented through the language of opposing AI". But that one from germany about holding google liable for the words of its AI overview feature is legitimately good I think. If they actively choose to shove that thing in everyone's face as the first thing they're going to see when they make a google search then they shouldn't be able to dodge accountability for the information it provides with a little "gemini AI can be inaccurate, please remember to double-check information teeheehee" disclaimer.
I wish they made it even marginally possible to get a job like I’m so fucking sorry I don’t have a rare but also highly demanded skillset, an agreeable disposition, and the ability to survive off of three nickels a week I’m soooo sorry
I need to scream this from the rooftops:
IF YOU CAN’T GET A JOB, IT’S NOT YOUR FAULT!!!!! THE SYSTEM IS DEEPLY BROKEN!!!!!!!!
The hiring process has never been great, but in the past couple of years it’s hit rock bottom. Ghost jobs probably outnumber real jobs on job sites. Recruiters and HR use AI which throws out 90% of resumes before a real human being sees them. And most companies are hellbent on holding out for a unicorn candidate- meaning someone who already knows how to do the EXACT role without any training while also accepting entry level wages- instead of investing in new people.
It’s fucking hard out there right now. You are not alone and it’s not your fault if you can’t get hired.
