Israel has deliberately and systematically destroyed the means for people in Gaza to sustain their physical health. 94% of hospitals are destroyed, and none can operate at full capacity. Life sustaining medications are blocked from entering and stocks are running out.
My friend Fadel has been hospitalized on and off for months now. The hospitals were already unable to remove shrapnel from him two years ago when Israelis bombed his house while he was inside. At this point in the genocide, he has experienced power outages from nearby bombings while being hospitalized for severe anemia and malnutrition.
Fadel (@fadell-aldany) relies on medication to treat his blood disorder. He has been unable to afford it consistently, and the result is constant dizziness, nausea, pain, and fainting. His family is terrified every time they find him collapsed unconscious that he has died. Now he also suffers from side effects from medications at the hospital that do not work as well. Please help him afford his healthcare and survive this.

VERY confusingly, the plane on the box art is an F-5, which had just recently been retired. But its USAF usage was almost all in the OPFOR Aggressor squadrons, which is... "come play enemy planes for our training exercises".
US Marine Corps Sergeant Barbie is wearing E-5 Sergeant's insignia, and three medals (she's in dress uniform). To my eye, and allowing for badly printed colours, looks like Navy and Marine Achievement Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, and the South West Asia Service Medal. The first two are fairly obvious "Barbie Is Well Behaved" stuff, but uh. That last one though?
USMC Barbie was in Desert Storm.

• Forces everyone (not just kids) to upload a government ID or submit to a facial recognition scan to create a social media account or post online, even on educational sites like Wikipedia
• Force parents to send even more sensitive information to Big Tech companies to “verify” custody in order for a minor to create an account (think: sending a birth certificate to Mark Zuckerberg to let your teen create an account)
• Allow unsupportive parents to lock queer and trans youth off the Internet, restricting access to life-saving community and information with zero recourse
• Expand the Trump admin’s surveillance capabilities, making it easier for them to persecute people organizing protests, monitoring ICE, and criticizing the administration
• Cost Massachusetts tax payers enormously, as the legislation is clearly unconstitutional and would face legal challenges.
• Specifically harm undocumented folks who use social media to warn communities about ICE activity and raise money for family members
• Fine smaller and non-profit tech platforms like Mastodon and Bluesky out of business, further expanding the monopolies of Big Tech platforms
It is one of many of the worst pieces of digital surveillance legislation right now in the states.

A few weeks ago, a small but higher-than-normal number of accounts were mistakenly suspended. The suspensions were quickly reversed, but our response wasn't good enough, and we want to say more.
We're sorry it took us this long to address this. Trust and safety issues are difficult to discuss publicly, and we can’t share details about specific individuals or how our systems work without exposing Tumblr to bad actors. But caution led us to say too little, too late.
We’ve heard from members of the trans community on Tumblr that they were disproportionately impacted, and that deserves a direct response. According to 3rd party researchers, Tumblr’s userbase has the highest proportion of LGBTQIA+ folks on social media, so it makes sense that when something goes wrong, those communities might feel that disproportionate impact.
One thing we want to emphasize is that we do not moderate people's identities. We moderate behavior. We know that identity shows up across a Tumblr profile in many ways, from followed topics to the flags people put in their bios, and more. However, these signals play no role in how our moderation systems make decisions. We monitor those systems for evidence of bias and take corrective action when we find it.
We understand that the communications sent to affected users, and our broader silence to the community, didn't meet the standard people expect from us. That feedback is fair, and we apologize. We've updated the messaging sent to people impacted by these incidents. We are also overhauling our process with a goal of responding to mistaken suspension appeals within 24 hours, and have instituted an ongoing internal review of how suspensions and appeals are handled.
Going forward, we're committed to finding a better balance: being more transparent with our community about issues that matter, even when we can't share everything.

If we want to live in a society that actually, seriously values human dignity and bodily autonomy then we need to accept that people have the right to take their lives into their own hands. Yes, including self-harm. Yes, including suicide.
Psychiatric confinement is a violation of the basic human right to bodily autonomy. It is plainly inhumane as a so-called 'intervention' strategy, especially when alternatives exist to divert people from hospitalization and extra especially when we know that evidence shows hospitalization is significantly more likely to increase a person’s suicidality (both during their confinement and after discharge).
So, then, why do we continue incarcerating suicidal people if we know it only makes them feel worse? Why is psychiatry the outlying 'medical field' with a free pass to harm patients with forced treatments, ignoring mountains of evidence showing that psychiatric hospitalization, forced or voluntary, leads to worse mental and physical health outcomes?
All this does is further stigmatize suicide by making it seem forbidden. Suicidal people, generally speaking, are suicidal because they do not see any other option available to them aside from suicide. They feel helpless. If your goal is to prevent someone from attempting or completing suicide, it is much more advantageous for you to allow someone to talk openly about suicide as a choice they are earnestly considering. Taking away the option of suicide by refusing to allow that person to explore talking about it as a serious option does not make a suicidal person any less suicidal, it just makes them trust you less as someone providing intervention for them.
In crisis counseling and training for suicide prevention, this is a common way of teaching the importance of personal choice and autonomy:
Imagine that there are two chairs. One is the 'life' chair. The other is the 'death' chair.

By advocating only on behalf of the reasons you think a person should choose to live instead of choosing suicide, you are seating yourself in the 'life' chair.

Now, there is nowhere for the person you are talking with to sit except for in the 'death' chair. Do you see how that works? You can't force someone to think how you want them to think. It's precisely why forced treatment is inhumane; you cannot force someone's compliance except under duress. Trying to control the way someone thinks is an easy way to alienate yourself from them.
If, instead, you allow that person to have autonomy over their own decisions, you give that person the freedom to choose the 'life' chair for themselves instead of cornering them into the outcome you want for them.

we paid the ticket. we made rent. immediately a new issue pops up. we're being punished for something. i don't know.
my girlfriend got an infection and they had to remove her gallbladder. i stayed up with her all night in the ER, stayed with her in the hospital through all of this.
financial aid should hopefully cover most or all of the surgery itself, but the initial ER visit (CT scan, ambulance), medication, & postsurgery followup is not covered by the hospitals financial aid. her follow up appointment is tomorrow.
we're looking at thousands of dollars. and to make matters worse i have to go to court tomorrow for my unpaid credit card debt that i accrued trying to keep our dog alive back in 2022-23, im being sued and ill get put through the wringer.
all this and our phone bill hasn't been paid, we lose service in a couple days. i have a $50 charge from the same hospital, that's already overdue & they're pursuing me for, because i got covid & strep tests when i got sick while staying with my girlfriend so i could make sure she wouldn't get sick as well. we're almost out of our HRT. it's just fucked. we're fucked. i don't know how to keep going. we need to make our phone bill. we need to pay my doctor's bill. we need anything we can get to pay for my girlfriends medical bills.
