there’s something going on with how abby’s mom always said abby smoked and that it was a bad habit when she herself was an alcoholic. like something about how she assigned traits she had to abby and abby had to take up her roles while their mom mourned cecil, and maybe that’s part of the resentment. cecil didn’t have a role to their mom, he was already gone in her mind like their father.

Actually, no, I need to talk about this because Abby and Cecil have the same age gap as I have with my older sister. It's insane because when you're a kid, it does feel like 4 years is a lifetime, you're in such different development stages and kids grow fast, it feels like it's such a long time but it really isn't.

It kills me that Abby was 9 years old and already having to take care of a child that wasn't that much younger than her. I had initially thought their age gap was around 6 years or so but that it's actually smaller is insane to me. There's still enough of a difference but... Abby was still just a child! She would have been regardless but 4 years... she wasn't even an elementary schooler when she had to start taking care of Cecil.

She lost her dad around the same time Cecil was born. She was 4 years old.

Love that they let Abby swear for the first time in the story of WTNV to talk about a mother that was physically there but dead in all the ways that mattered, and a father that was dead but vaguely present in a way that didn't mean anything for a pair of kids that were trying to survive.

Cecil's trauma making him forget things and by consequence making Abby relive her own trauma by telling the same story again and again.
