I think it's fine and fun to discuss s3's mischaracterizarions or bad plot OR if you feel completely the opposite and loved those aspects of it, because all of those are just petty fandom things and ultimately dont matter. Whatever, we move on.

But the race stuff is seriously so egregious. Whether it's intentional or ignorant, it shouldnt have happened. It shouldn't have happened on a good tv show and it shouldnt have happened on a trashy tv show. And ultimately that's the most important discussion happening around the finale. Armand being a cartoon villain sucks but Armand being a vessel through which to do antiblack violence while white characters are exempt from the conversation, literally not even in the room, is all I can think about.

It's difficult for me to see people saying "yes I agree the racial optics could have been handled better, but..." and then discuss the plot and the characters seperate from that. I feel like we all just saw a car crash and some people want to talk about how at least the weather is nice. It isn't illegal and I'm not angry AT YOU I just feel. Like. Idk when I think about TVL now that's all I am thinking about. I'm not getting that taste out of my mouth any time soon.

#exactly and to echo prev and grand prev #making armand a cartoon villain IS racism #to change him from a white character who is seen as beautiful and tragic and who the characters cannot help but adore and compliment #to a south asian possibly muslim character played by a muslim actor #who is portrayed as 1) an undesirable 'gremlin' who's sexual abuse is constantly mocked by white men #and 2) a two-dimensional villain who enacts racist and antiblack violence for no reason #ESPECIALLY in the current climate of dehumanizing muslim people #that is also racism #and discussing the character of armand without acknowledging that is playing into the racist caricature that these writers have created

well friends i think it's time for me to pack it up and say goodbye to what this show has become. i loved talking with all of you and celebrating the first two seasons. i'm sorry to everyone who had high hopes for this new season, and especially am sorry to all the black fans who had to watch louis' and claudia's characters be twisted and butchered to glorify lestat and to the south asian and muslim fans who had to watch armand endure nothing but racialized and sexualized abuse. we deserve better than this, and i hope we can all live to see and create it in the future

A question for Assad and Delainey: your performances as Armand and Claudia were life-changing! Could you tell us a little bit about the dynamic between your characters and how it was to play them as rivals and perhaps even narrative parallels? DELAINEY: I think this sea– Oh. I can't even say that. ASSAD: (laughs) DELAINEY: I think this season is new and fun... Wait and see that! But last season I don't think Armand took the time to get to –we spoke about this yesterday– know her. There's a world where they might have gotten along. But, she was in the way, so he did what he had to do. Um, I hate him for it. ASSAD: Who? Armand or me? DELAINEY: Armand. And... I don't remember the rest of the question! ASSAD: What's brilliant is that, we get on (gestures to Delainey) Like we clearly get on– DELAINEY: (Grins) Do weee? ASSAD: (Laughs) Fine, I think we get on. But we had some really nice moments. Like, Armand being threatening towards you– I remember there's a scene in season 2 where I push you up against the wall... DELAINEY: Oh, yeah. ASSAD: Do you remember that? DELAINEY: Oh that was lovely. ASSAD: We had to do that really close to the end. I think it was our last day...? DELAINEY: Yeah! ASSAD: It was freezing cold and I had to push you against the wall, but in-between takes we were both like this: wuwuwuwuuwhwhwh! But yeah it was fun to be frenemies. And maybe we get to do it again... I don't know. DELAINEY: Maybe.
