I subscribe to that theory, too. Taking it even further, I think that Allen is one of the reasons the Reset button keeps getting pressed! The time they are living in isn’t the 18th century 18 century, per se, but the 18th century after the previous reset. I’m no expert on anything religion, but from what I’ve heard, in the Bible, God was displeased with the humankind and pressed the Reset Button by creating that Flood. However, he did chose a selected few to be the survivors - the new progenitors for the human race. Those selected were the Noahs, and from them, the new human race was born. While in the Bible, they had magical incest orgy to accomplish that feat of repopulating the world, in DGM, it was outright stated that IT WAS THE AKUMA EGG that repopulated the world.
Notice how the proto-humans in the bottom right corner look scarily like these:

Of course, not all of the humans of the previous reset was killed during the metaphorical Flood. Some pockets of civilization managed to survive for a time before either perishing, too, or mixing together with the new humans. Matel - the town abandoned by God, with its extensive underground system and its usage of Innocence as a fuel source for common machineries such as a singing doll come to mind. Other possible candidates are the Bookman clan, with its duty of recording history, and Cross, who totally DIDN’T age.
I think it’s pretty safe to say that the world has ended many, many times before. And Allen is involved. Directly, in fact.
Furthermore, at the beginning of the manga, Komui said that the 3 days of darkness was started anyway even though the Heart won and the Earl was defeated. That simply would not make sense if things were truly as black as white as it had been painted to be. Furthermore, the Earl was said to be able to usher in the 3 days of darkness, not to cause the 3 days of darkness, so whatever happened last time, the Earl’s “defeat” was the catalyst for the Reset. I have a pet theory that it was the Heart/Allen/Nea who caused it out of grief, being the Kaworu in Shinji’s role as he is, but that may have just been my not-so-inner NGE fangirl talking… Nevertheless, God was the one who caused the Flood in the original myth, after all. Now, it all comes down to the vital question of “Who is God?”. Mana/The Earl, or Nea/Allen?
