When Hayden and her sister packed their bags and left Beacon Hills, she thought they’d put their supernatural troubles behind them. No more nightmare doctors, hulking beasts, or fighting for survival. All she’d have to worry about was being the new girl in high school and avoiding sun burns under the scorching desert sun. That is until she sees a familiar face at the local drive-in diner and dead bodies start turning up off the highway.

Kira hates her time with the skinwalkers. It’s not that they’re bad people or this isn’t necessary but they’re not her friends, family, or home. Occasionally, she manages to sneak into the nearby town and pretend that she isn’t in this sandy piece of nowhere because she can’t control her powers. One day, when she’s grabbing a milkshake to cool down, she spots a familiar face at one of the booths – Hayden Romero. She’s not Lydia or Malia but Kira instantly clings to the familiar face and Hayden doesn’t seem to mind.

Except, even in this sun-scorched town, things aren’t well. Skinwalkers are turning up mutilated on the side of the highway and Kira’s mentors are closing ranks. They refuse to tell her what’s going on but, as the bodies pile up, the two girls can feel the danger closing in.

They were inseparable. It was as if they were joined at the hip and no one really understood why but Allison just liked being with her girlfriend and Kira enjoyed being at Allison's side.
