Lost In Space S02E01

I hadn’t even known that there WAS a Season 2 until I was perusing Nutflax this evening, so I figured, what the heck?

What I saw blew me away. Seriously. Spoilers below.

The first thing that was so delightful was Penny’s wardrobe. Being old as dirt, I saw reruns of the original on a regular basis, and she was always the one I identified with the most. 

New Penny is shiny (see what I did there?), and cute as a button, but I was like screaming about her outfits! An orange henley with floral and striped cuffs for a dainty touch paired with butch, industrial size suspenders with chunky hardware - who couldn’t love that? Plus, dutch braids, which I still haven’t mastered but desperately want to.

I had forgotten who played her dad, so when he came on screen, I was all “Watch out! He’s a pirate! Captain Flint from Black Sails!!”

Apparently the show heard me, because damned if the episode wasn’t about TURNING THE JUPITER 2 INTO A GORRAM SAILING SHIP and riding into the storm. Awesome.

The only thing I had to just ignore is - if they could jury-rig a couple masts, they damn well could have jury-rigged a rudder, or even just a steering oar. How the hell are you going to sail without a rudder?!? WTF, show???

They did a thing with shifting ballast that kinda served as a rudder-like technique, though it was still irksome about LEAVING OUT A DAMN RUDDER in your design when it would have been stupid simple. 

But a spaceship heaving on storm waves while the space-suited crew hauls the halyards and clings for dear life, buffeted by wind and spray?

Brilliant. Just brilliant.
