Hi fun fact, colors do have meaning and there is a legit thing called color theory. Red does has more positive connotations than negative like the @mintymaiden said. Red is associated with more love, lust, passion than blood and death just like the chart shows you but If you want, here’s a link for you to check it out yourself. I like that the presumption here is that “No One On Tumblr Has Heard of Color Theory, Let Me Explain in Depth” rather than simply acknowledging that the VISUAL EFFECTS of this particular color choice, applied in the manner it was, can still amount to “this is a hospital and that looks like blood”

like, color theory doesn’t exist in a vacuum. If your design of choice for Blood Red Paint is asymmetric splatters and sploches against the wall, or in this case, a snail trail on the hallway’s floor, an infographic won’t override the viewers’ instinct.

I can't comment on the post itself, but:

Peafowl train feathers (not tail feathers, the long pretty ones are tail coverts, not tail feathers) do not get their bright colors from pigment, but rather from the structure of their barbules, and the way light refracts inside of that structure. This also means that over the breeding season, the feathers may change color drastically, as the structures break down. The actually begin their life looking the color you've got, a reddish color.

What you've done by spraying them with lysol is add residue to the structures, and change their shapes. This has caused them to refract light differently, presumably in a way closer to the "new" feather color (because you've basically just coated the structures with a smidge of additional structure/thickness).

Your best bet for cleaning the lysol off is to either rinse them in a tub of clean water, or rinse them in a tub with a mix of vinegar and water. It may or may not be successful- lysol can do damage to the feathers. You can gently blow dry them after the soak, to return them to fluffiness.

Rather than using Lysol, in the future consider freezing them for a few days to a week to kill any parasites or other bugs, and spritz them with isopropyl alcohol. This should not leave behind significant residue. The color will change while the feathers are wet/damp but should return to normal after they dry.

Out of curiosity do white train feathers have any sort of iridescence up close/in person or is pigment in more typical feathers necessary for the iridescence to show? I’m curious to see if dying white train feathers red to make ‘phoenix’ feathers would show any, if the dying process didn’t damage the structure of the barbules in the first place. I think you’ve mentioned before that some peafowl colors aren’t really iridescent, so I’m wondering if there’s a change in the feather structure along with pigment, or if it just isn’t visible if the barbules are too pale?
