"Sweetheart I hate to tell you this, I really do but those eggs are burnt" Your boyfriend wrapped his arms around your waist and leaned his head on your shoulder so his front was pressed firmly against your back. You stared at the eggs on the stove and sighed. Crispy eggs weren't your favorite but you couldn't help it.
"You distracted me" You turned your head so you could look at him glaring playfully. All morning he'd been holding you, kissing you and talking to you. And it's not that Sawamura Daichi wasn't a clingy person but he was never this clingy. You thought it was kind of endearing actually.
"Apologies, my love. Let me make it up to. You yeah?" He kissed you softly against your neck and you smiled turning yourself so you could look at him.
"You can make it up to me later. I don't want you to be late to your meeting" Your hands gently found the knot of his tie and you pulled lightly and maneuvered into place. He stared down at you softly.
"Let's see a couple old guys or my sweet, affectionate pretty girl? The choice here seems rather obvious" He laughed when you flicked his forehead
"Stop flirting with me and go now, so you can grab breakfast on the way. Unless you want burnt eggs" You grabbed his bag and suit jacket and handed it to him, he pressed a soft kiss to your forehead and then to your lips.
"Be good. I'll be home later" He tucked a strand of hair behind your ear tenderly
"I'm always good" You muttered and he ruffled your hair rolling his pretty eyes.
"That's a very questionable statement. Have I ever told you I loved you? " And you grinned at the question . You'd made him watch Indecent Proposal way too many times.
"Always" And he pressed a last lingering kiss to your lips before taking off. Your relationship with Daichi was everything you'd wanted and more. He was good to you, He treated you a hundred times better than all your previous boyfriends. He made you feel special, like you were meant for love, like you were worthy of his love and even though it had only been 10 months you felt like you had met the person you wanted to spend your forever with.
You had met at the Company dinner months ago and it seemed like it was just yesterday. You father was Ceo of the Company and Sawamura was his right hand.
"Honey you look like I dragged you here by your teeth" Your dad said and you glanced at him from your chair in the corner. Your feet hurt in your heels, your dress was way too tight to be comfortable and you felt like you were trapped in your head. Your ex boyfriend had just announced his engagement this morning to one of your best friends and you didn't know how to feel. Hurt? Angry? Incredulous?
"Sorry Dad, I'm just not in a party mood" You muttered and he nodded.
"I know darling but that stupid boy isn't worth an ounce of you" He kissed your forehead, leaving you to talk to some of his executives.
You moved towards the rooftop with the pool and hesitantly lifted your dress so you could sit on the ledge and dip you feet. You kicked the water for a few minutes before you heard a soft cough behind you. You turned harshly.
"Sorry, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you. I just needed some air" You'd seen Sawamura around alot. He was always dropping things off for your dad or sitting in his office when you went by for visits but he never noticed you the way you noticed him. He was a couple years older, much smarter and devilishly handsome.
"No its okay. I can go if you'd like to be alone" ugh.
"No stay. Please. I'd like the company" He rolled up his pants and sat an arm length away from you dipping his feet into the cold water. "You seemed kind of down in there. Not a company gala type of person? "
"Nah. I love these things. Sad music, old people and bad finger food. That's my perfect night right there" You joked and he rolled his eyes splashing some water your way. "No actually, I found out my ex is getting married"
"Ah and you're not over him?"
"No its not that. It's just he's marrying one of my good friends and I don't know I guess. It's weird isn't it? "
"More than weird. Your ex is a fucking asshole. Your friend? Jesus want me to take care him" Daichi said and he seriously looked pissed off for you, you smiled.
"Not it's okay. Well that's why I'm glum. What about you huh? Not enjoying the party? " You asked and he ruffled his perfect hair making it messy and disheveled. Oddly you liked it more
"I see those people everyday. I can barely deal with them when they're sober, can't stand them when they're drunk" He leaned back "Wanna get out of here? I really want McDonald's"
"You could be a kidnapper for all I know" You snarked.
"You can ask your Dad. He'll confirm I'm a pretty decent person" And that's how it started. You had texted and hung out everyday for a month before he asked you out and three months in you were basically living in his apartment
When lunch rolled around you couldn't contain your excitement. You had made your boyfriend a bento with all his favorite food to make up for burning breakfast and had headed to the office.
"Hey there Y/n! Here to see your Dad" The secretary said once you made it to the 16th floor and you shook your head.
"Actually I'm here for Sawamura" You mumbled shyly and she smiled knowingly
"Head on in he's in your father's office" You nodded politely and walked through the well lit corridor pausing, listening to their voices.
"You know my answer is yes, Sawamura. You'd be a fantastic son in law" Your hand froze on the doorknob. Son in law?
"I thought you would say it's too early, Sir" He said nervously and you put a hand on your mouth. You probably shouldn't be listening to this but you didn't care. You felt giddiness and joy bubble in your chest.
"I will be honest when I offered you a promotion to take her out and distract her for a bit I never thought you'd take it this far. Aiming for future head of the Company eh?" You felt that joy in your chest pop like a balloon. A promotion? To take you out? You were going to be sick. You shoved the door open.
You watched as Sawamura turned his chair from where he sat across from your father. A small smile played on his lips when he saw you but it disappeared as soon as he met your eyes. You looked furious.
"Baby? What is it?" He stood walking towards you his hands going to hold you before you stepped away from him.
"Don't touch me, Sawamura"
His eyebrows furrowed when you glared at him. Then it clicked, he felt his breath lodge in his throat. No no no no. He watched helplessly as you looked from him to your father, you eyes welling with unshed tears.
"I was the reason you got promoted?" Your voice cracked "The only reason you approached me, the only reason you spoke to me, they were because of money?"
He shook his head his eyes pleading with you "No no. They weren't the only reasons, baby. Look at you. You've always had my attention. God please please don't turn away from me" He mumbled when you moved away from him again.
"Dad how could you?" Your voice cracked. Were you really so pathetic that your own father had to bribe someone to take you out and you felt even worse because his plan actually worked. You fell in love. Hard.
"Darling now I only had your best interest at heart" He said sputtering.
"No. You didn't. God I feel so stupid. Don't talk to me again. Both of you" You stormed out of the building but Daichi was hot on your heels.
"Y/n slow down. Would you just stop please. For two seconds" He grabbed your arm and you pulled it out of his reach.
"Don't fucking touch me" You hissed and he recoiled. You ran out of the building and Sawamura watched in anguish as you left.
You had spent the day with your best friend laying on her couch and when 7pm hit you got up. "I should go" You told her.
"You can stay here Yunno" She said petting your hair. You grinned.
"Thanks but I should see Daichi. I want a clean break. All my stuff is at the apartment anyway" You mumbled
"Okay call me if you need anything" She let you go and you drove home. God was it even home anymore. You turned the key of the door and walked in the apartment. It was quiet. Isolated. You heard sniffles from the bedroom and your heart jumped.
You found Sawamura sitting at the end of the bed. He was holding a picture the two of you had taken together at the Fair a couple weeks ago. His eyes were teary and he was trembling lightly. You shuffled lightly and his head shot towards you. His eyes widened and you could see he'd been crying. He stood quickly and then froze. As if remembering he wasn't allowed to be near you.
"Hi" You mumbled not knowing what to say. He smiled sadly
"Hey" He took in a breath "I thought.. I thought you wouldn't come home. I'm sorry. I can leave-"
"It's okay. I want answers Sawamura." You met his eyes fiercely and he nodded.
"You can have whatever you want" A few minutes later the two of you were seated on opposite ends of the couch. Daichi had made you a cup of Lavender tea that he hated but knew it calmed you down.
"Why?" Was the first thing out of your mouth "Why did you do it? Why didn't you tell me? Why would you let me fall in love with you if it was all a lie?"
"It wasn't a lie!" Daichi spat with conviction "Whatever you think of me I'm okay with but my love for you was never fake y/n. Not for a second . Yes your dad offered me a promotion to talk to you but I was going to anyway. It was stupid to accept it after but it's the truth. Do you know how long I've been in love with you? "
You kept quiet but your eyes lifted from the glass in you hand to meet his.
"I've loved you for years! Everytime I came to your house to 'see your dad' they were excuses. I wanted to see you. I watched you argue with your siblings and play with your dogs and study for your finals from afar but all the time you never knew I was falling in love with you. I wanted to talk to you so bad, but you were always dating some asshole and I didn't think it was right to interfere with your happiness. But the night of the Company party... I was ready to talk to you and then your dad came to talk to me"
Daichi was staring at you fiercely.
"He told me about what happened with your ex and I wasn't even paying attention to the promotion part. I just wanted to come find you, to talk to you. To comfort you. To do... Anything. And I'm so sorry I hurt you y/n. I'm so fucking sorry. You're everything to me. I don't give a fuck about the job. I'll quit if thats what it takes. but please please please just stay"
You sobbed hard wiping under your eyes furiously and Daichi walked slowly towards you. He bent down on his knees and lightly wiped your tears whispering apologies over and over again.
"Have I ever told you I loved you" You mumbled placing your hands over his. Your boyfriend looked stunned but he bounced back quickly.
"Still?" His voice cracked and you closed your eyes.
"Always" You kissed him hard crawling onto his lap on the floor. He kissed you back harder and his hands found your hips and he pulled you impossibly closer. You pulled away and your boyfriend seemed dazed.
"I don't forgive you entirely." You said firmly and he nodded endearingly "But I love you too much to punish us both. Is this the only thing you lied to me about"
"And the time your Russian China doll broke. There wasn't an earthquake I'm sorry I broke it" He said grinning and you rolled your eyes.
"You loved me for that long huh?" You rubbed your nose against his.
"I've loved you forever" He kissed your forehead.
