𝒲arning ─ Aonung x reader ⸝⸝ Angst ⸝⸝ hand-holding⸝⸝ two shot ⸝⸝ Spelling errors ⸝⸝ Neteyams death ⸝⸝ Lmk if more!
𝒜bout ─ ❝ In which Reader and Aonung grow apart in the midst of war and duty❞
It started with small glances from afar, eye contact. He saw you, something unfamiliar — something proud. Despite being somewhere new, somewhere far from your home.
You still puffed out your chest, guiding with a strong heart. You stood beside your eldest brother, your mentor.
The boy in whom you looked up to , strong children. Aonung saw this, what began with curiosity turned into fear. The fear of being weak in his own clan ─ He was the future of the clan , he needed to assert dominance.
Show these outsiders that they are no better than him. He'd spend his afternoon muttering endless taunts at your siblings.
His father frowned, his sister groaned and his mother seemingly seemed disappointed in her son despite having a dislike for the Sullys as well.
Each day you spent learning the ways of the “Metkayina” the more you dislike for Aonung grew..
You spent your days huffing in a corner, sharpening your deathly pointed arrow with pride ─ flying your ikran through the metkayina jungle .
Your appearances in the Awa'atlu waters were rare. Your eldest brother had attempted to persuade you to give the metkayina ways a chance, yet he was often met with the same snarky, underlooked response.
Then came a day you didn't have a choice, you couldn't avoid your duty. Your littlest sister, tuk abruptly tugged on your arm ─ wearing her stupidly cute pout on her face.
She begged you to swim with her, since kiri had refused, loak was too busy with Tsireya and well Neteyam was probably with Aonung – you'd assume.
Your brows furrowed, contemplating. You scanned the look on her face, the way her amber orbs puddled into swelling tears.
You nodded, allowing her to forcefully drag you through the metkayina village. Tuk waved at a group of girls sitting on the near edge of a paddock ─ their hands shooting into the air and eyes widening in mere contentment as they saw tuk pass by.
A small smile formed on your lips, you wondered why your sister even needed you for her short lived entertainment. She dragged you along, the shore ─ swatches of fresh sea water pooling and slashing through your feet.
She let go of your worn calloused hand before slowly crouching down and observing the bunch of sea shells engulfed in sea water and sediment. Tuk looked at you for a moment, her gaze inviting you to crouch beside her.
You slowly dropped your knee to the sandy ground. Observing with tuk. Her small fingers pointed at a large clam, her eyes glittering with desire.
You gently submerged your hand into the water, grabbing the pearly clam as the water swelled away in a wave. Tuks eyes lit up, she quickly snatched the clam away from your hands.
“This is perfect!” She giggled, clenching the clam in her fists as she ran towards the woven village.
You remained crouched on the sand, your eyes blinking in pure confusion as you slowly shook your head. You stood up from the sand , slowly dusting off your thighs.
Wondering how the metkayina have glowing skin despite the dry sand clinging to their skin.
Aonung constantly attempted to earn your forgiveness. He had spent gentrifying hours weaving you a rug, only for you to accept it — place it down beside your dad's hammock and continue to relentlessly slice at your arrow.
Aonung frowned, viewing the scene in front of him before awkwardly walking off.
Another time, he attempted to give you a large conch shell he had found while scavenging, though you showed a spark of interest ─ You simply handed it to your youngest sister , Aonung had felt prideful thinking you accepted his sincere apology.
Only to see tuk boastfully holding her shell in the air as the Metkayina children stared in awe. He thought you'd never forgive him and he accepted it.
The day you gave the sea a chance was the day you gave him a chance. Despite the rocky start, you quickly warmed up to him ─ always making up a foolish excuse to accompany Aonung on his hunts.
Aonung didn't seem to mind , he enjoyed your company ─ he enjoyed having you as an equal not an enemy.
The more time you spent with Aonung the closer the two of you got , you'd walk along the shore holding hands , sit at the edge of a jagged ─ eroded rock taking short awkward glances at each other's lips.
You gently sat beside Aonung, a small smile formed on your lips ─ yet his gaze wavered as if something had gone wrong. Tour smile abruptly twitched away, replaced with a neutral expression. Aonung gently intertwined his calloused fingers with yours but, you didnt feel loved ─ you didn't feel the warmth you normally felt around him , the security.
The two of you sat together , in silence.
"I am close to completing Inkiymaima" He broke the silence.
Your eyes lit up excitedly, "Will you get a tattoo?"
Aonung scoffed abruptly as the winds deliberately picked up "Yes, and I may choose a woman to court"
You're smile grew bigger, you squeezed his had a tad bit tighter. You assumed he'd choose you, not once did it cross your mind that maybe in the end, he wouldn't. Maybe in the end, he'd end up with Koyra. He'd choose the pride of his metkayina blood over you. Maybe He'd flutter Koyra with endless courting gifts only he could obtain. Maybe he'd getting their bonding etched on his skin with dark ink. Aonung's face twitched into something that at the moment you couldn't decode.
Aonung shattered your train of thought, this time his eyes met yours. He squeezed your hand tighter, firmly.
Your ears flushed a lavender hue, your eyes creased as you returned a smile. One that felt genuine.
Then came the day, the day you attempted to forget. Blood pooled in your hands, you gasps for air between your gush of tears as your mother. You dat surrounded by your family, on a jagged eroded rock ─ in a pool of your eldest brothers blood. Then neteyams breath halted, ewya took him back.
You cried , you screamed─ you cursed the day you set foot on Awa'atlu. If you had never came to this stupid beach would your beloved brother still be alive?
Would he become oletikyan?
Would he court?
Who WOULD he have courted?
Your mother hugged Neteyam, screams rippling through the sound of violent swells of sea water crashing against the rock pooled with your brothers blood.
You streaked yourself with mourning paint, singing neteyams song chord with your mother. You'd sing until your throat sored, until your jaw could no longer move. You shut everyone out ─ you had spent your time reminiscing about your late brother, wondering ─ thinking.
Sometimes you'd wake up, look beside you and realize hes really gone. He isn't coming back.

word count :: 571 (short but a little prologue)
ever since miles met you at the spider society, you guys hit it off pretty quick. you guys were attached at the hip and he was always admiring you.
everyone but you knew it, but miles was known to have a wee crush on you. even if it wasn’t that obvious to you the way he looked at you told on himself.
once the spot came along, miles ended up getting trapped in an alternate dimension; thence having to team up with his dimension counterpart who once held him hostage to help bring down the spot.
the other miles, he has been brought to the society many times. he wasn’t necessarily a spider, but people treated him with respect as one since he was meant to be one. especially you, which pissed your miles off.
he would glare at you guys walking together, sharing inside jokes and sharing food. he didn’t wanna feel the bitter taste of jealousy, it wasn’t like him at all. yet neither of you could help that each other got along so well, it wasn’t his fault.
as of now, he was currently staring at you and him, building one of the lego sets you brought to the lobby. he wanted to go over but some part of him was scared, he stared for so long that he didn’t release you were looking at him.
“miles! come help me and prowler miles with my Lego set!!” you yelled.
it shot him out of his thought, the way you said prowler miles twisted his guts in a way he disliked. when you talked to him or the other miles, you referred to each other as their power. he was spider miles, 42 was prowler miles.
he nodded then got out of his seat, walking towards the two of you and sitting down. taking a look at the instructions and the pieces spread out in front of you.
“we were talking, and it seems like the spot is mainly an emotional type guy, like he just wanted to be respected. since he’s a freaking beast now what if we tried getting at him emotionally.” you rambled, putting some legos together
miles nodded, looking at you admirably. the way your nose scrunched while trying to explain something always got him.
“yea.. you do have a point.” he replied.
prowler miles brought himself back into the conversation, flicking a Lego at miles but he caught it with his spider senses.
“it’s not that easy though after your dumbass called him a ‘villain of the week’” prowler miles chuckled, you didn’t laugh and was more focused on your Lego set which made miles a bit happier.
“whatever man, let’s just focus on this uh.. avengers tower?” miles said, looking at the box.
you nodded “this costed me a WHOPPING 100 bucks. my pockets are aired out.”
prowler miles chuckled and looked at you, beating miles to a response.
“who knew you ever had that money.” he said, poking your side.
you flinched almost instantly and started laughing, telling him to shut up and moved away from him.
the scene almost made miles nauseous, he hated how you guys joked, especially in the way you two used to. it didn’t feel the same next to you, the love of his life felt like a stranger.
he didn’t know what to do, but if he didn’t wanna loose you. he had to act fast.
