I know it’s illegal but whenever I get antibiotics from the doctor I save a few and give them to friends or coworkers who don’t have insurance so that when cold season comes they might be able to shorten their illness

That is not good- that’s not quite how antibiotics work.

Antibiotics kill some bacteria, but don’t manage to kill other bacteria. Just like when you get a particular sickness (or a vaccination), your body can protect you from future infections, any bacteria that came into contact with the antibiotic is protected from future doses of that antibiotic. Bacteria are very virulent breeders, so they spawn more resistant bacteria.

If you take the full dose of antibiotics, your natural antibodies can deal with the cells that are resistant while the medicine kills off the bacteria that isn’t resistant. If you don’t take the full course of antibiotics, then your body has to deal with both the resistant and the non-resistant strains of bacteria, and it can become overwhelming. Also, most bacteria are able to pass on genes between still-living cells, so that previously non-resistant strains become resistant, and you have inadvertently cultivated a stronger strain of bacteria.

Furthermore, colds and the flu are viral infections, so antibiotics don’t work against them anyway. The best protection against viral infections are vaccinations, as there are not many viruses that we have developed anti-viral medication against, once you already have the disease. If there are anti-viral medications, it is even more important that you take the full dose of the medication, because anti-viral medication is even harsher against the body than antibacterial medication is.

To put it shortly: antibiotics don’t do shit for the cold. You need to take the entire bottle that is prescribed to you. People not doing that is how antibiotic resistant infections crop up. People like OP are literally why diseases like MRSA exist.

things that a better-off person can do for their sick less-well-off friends that don’t involve breeding superbacteria through misue of antibiotics:

Buy them cold medicine

Buy them cough drops

Buy them fancy tissues with lotion

Make them too much soup to eat in one go and freeze half for later

Find them a low-cost clinic and accompany them there

Tell them you are giving them their day’s wages and they are staying home Friday/Monday and then do.

Go to their house. Wash the dishes, take out the garbage, walk the dog, scoop the cat or just plain change the whole litter box, clean the bathtub and mom voice them until they take a hot shower or steam their head.

if they have asthma or bronchitis and are out of inhaler but you have a half-full one, that is a thing you can sanitize and share.

I feel like some of this should have been covered in high school health class. It would do a lot to combat misuse of antibiotics. Superbacteria is really dangerous for everyone but is particularly bad for people with multiple antibiotic allergies and will lead to hospital stays for IV antibiotics of kinds they can take.

Last year, I had caught a bad case of strep throat. I usually get it a couple of times a year because my tonsils suck, but this time it was BAD. I was taking amoxicillin like I had been before, but nothing was happening. I was still sick 2 weeks later. I told my doctor and he gave me a different antibiotic and it cleared up.

I was telling one of my friends about all of it, and he says “Oh do you need some amoxicillin? I never finished my bottle when I got strep because it went away after like 3 days”.

Like a week before I got sick, that same friend and I were out having dinner, and we shared a bit of food. This asshat gave me an amoxicillin-resistant strain of strep throat because he didn’t finish his antibiotics. I couldn’t eat anything solid and could barely drink for 2 weeks because someone thought he was “feeling better and didn’t need medicine”.

Finish your god damn antibiotics people!!!!

Your art is gorgeous as always Sango & I’m gonna get dragged for this but whatever, I know you’re drawing it based on jazz’s fic but am I the only one who feels slightly uncomfortable when fics & art makes Lena & by extension Katie, seem bigger than she actually is. She’s actually very small in person and nowhere near how she’s depicted. I’m all for loving all body types but it doesn’t seem fair to do that to Katie. She’s not as lean as Melissa but she’s definitely not the way jazz portrays her.

Okay I don’t even know where to start with this.

Yes she is still small and slim, but this is more about how there’s ever really only ONE kind of body type/one type of slim, depicted on media ?. Which is: very slim, flat stomach, thigh gap, slim waist, small chest blah blah you get the idea?

I feel like people seem to forget that there’s ALL kinds of body types and that someone who is slim and small doesn’t automatically have all those things listed above. You can be rather small and slim but STILL have wider hips and a rounder belly and thicker thighs and so on and on. Stretch marks, for example is ,something that MANY people have. It’s completely normal and doesn’t have anything to do with weight or having a lot of body fat.

Having a rounder belly, thicker thighs, and so on are not attributes that are reserved for bigger people only. Maybe mainstream media makes you want to believe that.

Sometimes I feel like the media has distorted peoples views SO MUCH that when they hear things like someone having some belly fat and more curves etc they immediately think of someone overweight? Like there’s only two body types: 1 very slim with flat stomach/thigh gap and 2 overweight, and nothing inbetween.

There is not just “one type of slim”.

I’m not here to drag you but maybe think about that a little bit.

When people can constantly mention that Kara has a flat stomach with abs and a “V”, then people can also mention that Lena has a little chub around certain areas without it being untrue to her actual body type.

Especially when Lena is wearing her tight skirts and dresses you can see her curves and I think it’s an absolute SHAME when those are not mentioned in fanfic. I think @jazzfordshire‘s descritpion is always SPOT ON and I adore it♥

That’s a fledgling great horned owl, they’re known for being generally ballsy and aggressive, and owls have been known to both climb trees and swim through still water in a pinch

Most likely full scenario: the bird was practicing flying, but it fell because it’s still a kid and they do that. It probably fell in/by the water. It then was like Oh Damn Oh Jesus and decided it was not in fact a duck and headed to shore, saw you, and was utterly offended but confused on what to do. So it decided to Square Up and face you like the hellbeast it is.

The pose it’s taking in the pic is one I affectionately call Full Orb. A fully orbed owl is 100% READY to FIGHT 1v1 no items final destination. You were probably its first up close encounter with a human, and since birds tend to associate larger animals with predators, it tried to make itself look as big as possible to make sure you know what’s up. It was staring you down because it was waiting to see you make the first move in the dual or flee in fear from its superior owl might.

Yeah okay we’re going to talk about this, because recently I’ve heard a lot of noise from people who don’t know what they’re talking about and it has started to genuinely upset me. Taylor Swift released a song and music video titled “You Need To Calm Down” which is about shutting down internet trolls, takedown culture, and homophobia. That last element has apparently gotten people so worked up that they write out actual articles and think pieces truly under the impression that they’re Saying Something when in reality they’re just creating more noise and pretending something is problematic when it isn’t.

People have gotten super worked up about the line “Cause shade never made anybody less gay”, as well as the music video in its entirety. I’ve seen people say all kinds of bullshit, from “she’s queerbaiting” to “the lgbtq+ community doesn’t want or need this” to “she’s just trying to make money by hopping on the bandwagon”. Let’s try to unpack some of this.

Firstly, she isn’t queerbaiting. Period. Yall saying that honest to god don’t even understand what queerbaiting means. Showing support, representation, and allyship is not queerbaiting. If she had kissed a girl just for shits and giggles in the video, that would be queerbaiting. She didn’t. And you know what, we’re gonna tackle this next one in two parts. Firstly, if you are straight and cis and you’re out here bitching about Taylor Swift’s lgbtq+ allyship and saying that it isn’t needed or wanted? You need to take several fucking seats and shut your mouth. Now, if you’re in the lgbtq+ community and saying that? You also need to sit the fuck down. If you’re lgbtq+ and you personally don’t care about Taylor’s allyship, if it doesn’t affect you or help you? I don’t give two shits. Because newsflash – it helps a LOT of other people. Her allyship means literally the world to me. It makes me feel heard, it makes me feel seen, and it makes me feel accepted. And I’m by far not alone in that. If her speaking up about lgbtq+ rights doesn’t make you feel anything then honestly nobody cares. But for people to try to take that away from the people that it DOES help? That’s abhorrent and selfish. Sit the fuck down and let us enjoy feeling heard.

And as for her hopping on the bandwagon? Yall haven’t been paying attention, because she has been outspoken for the lgbtq+ community for years. Whether or not any of you will admit it. For years she has spoken about how people should be able to love who they love, she has included it in her songs, and she has donated to countless lgbtq+ organizations. She didn’t jump on this bandwagon in 2019. And not to mention the fact that she literally does not need to do this to sell albums or break records. I don’t care if you don’t like her, but you can’t deny that she is extraordinarily successful. And given that she started in country, her getting political and speaking in support of the lgbtq+ community is actually costing her a lot of her original fanbase, who are republican. For Taylor Swift, someone who has for years been regarded as “America’s Sweetheart”, to come out in support of the lgbtq+ community (among other political platforms)? Is a HUGE deal. And if you can’t see that then that’s on you and you can take a fucking hike.

And you know what? The whole entire music video is filled with open politically active members of the lgbtq+ community. If the song, or the music video, were problematic in literally any way shape or form, do you genuinely think any of them would have participated? Do you really think that the cast of Queer Eye, that Hayley Kiyoko, RuPaul, Hannah Hart, Ellen DeGeneres, Billy Porter, Ryan Reynolds, Adam Rippon, Laverne Cox, etc… do you really fucking think that Todrick Hall WHO CO-PRODUCED THE VIDEO wouldn’t have said something?!?! Do you actually think you are so entitled to twisting something beautiful into something problematic that you know better than every single lgbtq+ person who worked in and on that video? Take a fucking sip babe.

I’m not asking you to like the song, or to like the video. I don’t give a flying fuck if you are not a Taylor Swift fan. But to watch so many people come at her and her fans for this song and video is revolting. It is not baiting, it is not bandwagonning, and it is not problematic. What’s problematic is the fact that yall are so bored out of your goddamn minds that you can’t even think critically before screaming on the internet about hating something that you don’t seem to even understand. She is going out of her fucking way to show support for the lgbtq+ community, and you know what if you don’t want it then I don’t give a fuck because there are so many of us who do appreciate it and who do genuinely feel more accepted because of it. And honestly the motherfucking tea is that none of you understood the point of the song, or of the entire reputation era, if you’re sitting here bitching about her. She does not give a fuck. She didn’t do this for yall… she did it for her fans, she did it for people who don’t have a voice, she did it for people who are fighting every day to feel accepted. I don’t care if this song isn’t going to be your next pride anthem. But it’s my pride anthem, and it’s a lot of people’s pride anthem, and I’m done watching yall try to take that away from us just so you can get a few retweets.

In the Netherlands, abortion is legal. There is however one pro life organization called Stichting Schreeuw Om Leven. But instead of harrassing women who are on their way to the abortion clinic and make them feel miserable, they offer them HELP.

If a woman wants to get an abortion because she is financially unable to give birth to and raise a baby, the organization will pay for everything she needs during the pregnancy and after, until she’s financially stable to raise the baby on her own.

This organization won’t stop women from going to the abortion clinic, but would rather hve a healthy conversation with them. Ask them if they can help her with anything in order for them to keep the baby. They also hand out contraception in the streets for those who can’t afford it.

Women don’t get abortions just because they want to. There are reasons why. This organization doesn’t fight abortion, it fights the reasons why women get abortions. Take notes America.
