LGC Boys Energy : Kai the Thief, pt. 2
His heart was a steady drumbeat of nerves, thudding louder now with each step toward the finish line. One item down: success, though it didn't feel quite like triumph. Now came the second. Another theft, another small deception pressed between his ribs like a hidden bruise.
Kai hated this part. Not the sneaking, not the risk. No, it was the dishonesty that sat heavy in his chest, like fog refusing to lift. Even if it wasn’t so terrible in the grand scheme of things, just a harmless game, really, the idea of betraying trust, no matter how softly, gnawed at the edges of his conscience. He wanted to shout out what he was doing, to rid himself of the weight curling tight in his stomach. But instead, he breathed through it and kept his face calm, smooth as glass.
He was just visiting a friend, after all. Nothing unusual about that.
Sitting across from Parker in his room, Kai put on the same easy expression he always wore, open, bright, unassuming. They chatted like they always did, laughter spilling easily from his lips. It surprised him, actually, how effortlessly he was slipping into the rhythm of it all, like nothing was wrong. Like he wasn’t quietly wrestling with the guilt just beneath his practiced smile.
Then fate offered him the window.
Parker excused himself for a moment, just a quick trip to the restroom. And Kai, who had been scanning the room without truly meaning to, caught sight of a sock lying half-crumpled near the edge of the bed. Not exactly a prize of elegance, but it would do.
His movements were quick, quiet. The sock disappeared into the depths of his oversized shorts pocket with a practiced ease that startled even him. When Parker returned, Kai was all smiles again, though they were a little more clipped at the corners now, a touch too tight, like a bow pulled too firmly.
He didn’t rush out. That would’ve looked suspicious. So he stayed. Ten more minutes. Talked a little more. Laughed again, this time with a softer edge.
Then, casually, he stood. “I think I’ll grab some food.” he said, the lie slipping out with practiced sweetness. And with that, he walked off, each step feeling heavier with the weight of the second stolen item tucked away.
He handed the sock off to the A PD soon after. Two items, mission complete.
And he could only hope that no one had noticed a thing.
