giving a small nod to the other male, ming holds his hand out towards lin. “i’ll do my best, though you have to remember that i know nothing about makeup so if it turns out horribly wrong… you can’t blame me.” he half-jokes as he smiles slightly, showing that he really wouldn’t intentionally make his cousin look bad no matter the circumstances. now if it were any of the females on lin’s side? yeah, he’s probably sabatoge them without hesitation. lin on the other hand was someone that ming cared deeply about and would do anything for.
“I am sure you will do a better job than me.” Lin reassured, trying to keep as still as possible for his cousin’s best effort. “If you screw up, I’ll work with it. We can pretend that I am one of those extra arrogant angels that don’t actually care about humanity.”
His cousin’s outfit was nice.
“I like the pirate look.” He complimented. “The outfit seems easier to manage too.” His own costume was a bit problematic, as his wings continued to shed every so often. In fact, one of the white feathers had made its way onto the pirate’s head. Lin considered reaching out and brushing it out right away, but decided it would be better to let Ming keep his focus while his brows were on the line.
“It’s been a while since you’ve been over for dinner.” There were plenty of cameras around, so Lin went in for a light conversation. “I can cook. My mom missed you.” Sort of. It was always a bit hard to tell who his mom liked - it changed depending on her mood and the weather. Usually, Ming was on her good side.
The last time he really tried to put makeup on himself was in his mother’s bathroom at the age of three, painting himself a nice pair of dark magenta lips. After losing half of her precious lipstick to the mirror and the other half to her son’s entire face, mama Lin threw a hissy fit that would put the neighborhood strays to shame.
Maybe...this.
He grabbed a container of something shiny and after confirming that it was a highlighter, dipped his finger into the shimmery powder. He studied how it looked under the light, clearly satisfied with the way it looked but still uncertain as to where to place it on himself.
“Here?” Lin turned towards Ming with his question, vaguely gesturing. “I think it’ll work.” He casually undid his two top buttons and tugged down the collar of his white shirt so he could run the champagne colored glitter over his collar bone. It looked pretty good, he thought, especially since he was trying to go for that angelic look. “Want to help me with my eyebrows?” He wanted more of an arch and didn’t want to risk messing up.
when the muse arrives at the audition, one of the judges from the panel ( the director, producer, and writer of the drama ) will be giving them a scenario where they are being blackmailed by a friend. the other individual tells them that if they don’t follow their request ( which is to backstab someone that is close to the muse and break their trust ), they will tell everyone about this deep dark secret. will they follow the request so that their secret won’t be revealed or will they go against it and let the secret be known to everyone?
TW: IMPLIED MURDER
“This is madness.” He circled the room in agitation, brows knotted. “Three years ago, when your business proposal failed and you were about to become penniless, it was her who saved you from ruin.” Lin whipped around, narrowing his eyes at the imaginary blackmailer. “Now you are demanding for me, her fiancé, to help you destroy her life.” Every single word he spoke was soaked in accusatory incredulity.
“You really are heartless, Hyorin...” His voice trailed off. “And I am impressed.”
With that, the conversation turned. Slowly and deliberately, he wiped the look of distress from his features, starting by unfurrowing his brows and lifting the corners of his lips. Lin eased himself into a seat, casually smoothed out a crease on his sleeve before providing a light round of applause. “Unfortunately, the knife you believe you hold over me is made of plastic - a rumor from the past that I never cared to clear up because of its sheer ridiculousness.” His smile remained, but lacked its usual warmth - this expression existed only for the purpose of mockery. “You should be glad of this fact too, otherwise you would have charged in here, alone...” He reminded. “...To blackmail a killer.” An incredibly reckless move driven by greed.
“So go ahead, say what you would like about me.” He leaned back against his seat, opening his arms as if in invitation. “Or learn to negotiate better. Tell me what you can actually give me in exchange for helping you out, or if you have nothing of value to put on the table, beg.” He shrugged. “After all, I did love you once, before we both became snakes. Perhaps emotional appeal is the way to go.”
To be honest, when he was first handed this scenario, his mind went to a school setting. Lin started thinking down that direction, only to decide he was old enough to try another angle. Something darker and less pleasant, but could better demonstrate his versatility. He created a character who was quite despicable, perhaps even more so than the blackmailer - the real danger of this scenario. He started out accusatory and shocked, just to show he was capable of acting out those emotions if that was what the director was looking for. Then, he’d transitioned into something different to display his ability to smoothly shift his character.
Playing a villain was quite fun and every show needed a good antagonist. He hoped he did a better job here auditioning for a role than his two left feet dance performance at the concert. God, Lin never wanted to dance again.
“Thank you so much for the opportunity,” he said, bowing appreciatively at the panel, soft voiced and full of smiles again, back to the gentle giant he was always known to be.

Do you want to come home for dinner?
Yeah, let’s go out for dinner sometimes. When are you free?
“So, Lin…” He lifts the tongs to use it as makeshift microphone after he dinged it against the side of his pint of beer. “Or should I say traitor because that’s what you are. I didn’t prepare a speech, but I think I can wing it. Congratulations on become one year older. I really hope that you learned something during the past year.” He shoots him a toothy grin, leaning forward slightly to rest his free arm on the table in front of him. “Cheers to never having to step inside a dance practice room ever again. I better be one of the first people you mention in your speech when you win ‘Best New Actor’ award in the future.”
As much as he had enjoyed his trainee time with all of his dorm buddies, it was time to move on. If he hadn’t successfully gotten on the actor path, Lin would have gone with a more dramatic change. Something crazy like leaving Legacy and starting a food/beverage related business. Perhaps a nice milk tea shop close to one of the universities, maybe bait in a few students with his smile.
“I learned that I am THE worst dancer of Legacy.” He reached out and pinched Noeul’s cheek, laughing. Lin had already gotten over the comment, long ago actually. It wasn’t nearly as bad as he had expected and he wasn’t about to stay upset when the poster only spoke the truth. “I’ll miss living with you a lot.” And going on trainee missions. Those international trips - man, they were such fun.
He stole the tongs from Noeul to start grilling on the meat. A certain someone had ordered enough for a party, a clear gesture of affection. “You have to text me good morning and good night.” He put on his best whiny girlfriend imitation.
“Here,” he said, breaking the melon bread into half and handing the girl next to him the slightly bigger portion.
There was a new bakery that opened up near his place and Lin bought half-a-dozen baked goods to show his support after chatting with the nice lady owner. While the products cost a little more than expected, he must admit he was getting his money’s worth because their melon bread was twice the size of typical ones.
“Let’s do it.” He took his phone out of his pocket and took a deep breath. Someone texted him and said he was mentioned in an article. From the way they worded things, it might have not been a positive comment. Lin figured he could use some mental support, and who better to reach out to than sweet, energetic Milan.
hello everyone, it’s me, muffin. i come bearing apologies and excuses. first of all, a huge i am so sorry to everyone i dropped the ball on for event threads. i went on vacation and then swiftly got hit by the big c afterwards and lost my will to write. don’t worry about me, i am on the mend now and should fully recover in no time. i hope y’all can forgive me and continue to love my unworthy apologetic ball-dropping ass. i promise to do better in the future clings to your legs
with the coming of new trimester, i would like to drop my old event threads and prepare for next round. past threads/relationship developing/building threads i would like to keep if that’s okay! i can’t believe it but i even missed lin’s birthday, i am such a bad mun ; v ;
I am a pretty boring person, to be honest. I use Messenger the most to keep in contact with friends and family. Since I am usually the one in charge of getting people to the right place in the friendship group, I use Maps a lot. My sense of direction is quite good, and I can probably do without it, but I hate to risk otherwise. To listen to music, I use Spotify and Youtube. When there is free time, I watch movies and other shows. Sometimes I do that on Youtube, but I am also sharing a subscription account with a fellow trainee for Netflix. We each pay half, and it’s been a pretty good arrangement.
what is your most random note in the notes app?
The notes app for me is used to record grocery lists and budget planning. If you look here, I was planning on getting two pounds of beef and some tofu to make a stew. What? No, I didn’t actually end up getting the beef since chicken was on sale for 30% off - the notes are not always accurate, but helpful. These days I can be forgetful and the notes app serves as a good reminder, especially since I make most of my food related decisions right before bed.
What’s this? Oh, yes, I bought a couple of hoodies last month to support my favorite Legacy idol and budgeted for them here. No, I am not going to tell you who it is, that would be too embarrassing.
what was the last message or call you’ve received and who was is from?
My mother. She asked me when I am coming home and who I was with at the convenience store last night. Guess she must have ran into us when I was out shopping with a fellow trainee. Hm? Of course it was a guy! Yeah, I don’t understand why she doesn’t just come up and say hi either.
Actually...maybe I do know.
Hm? No, let’s not get into it now. It’s a long story, and trust me, you don’t want to hear about my family. It’s a rather complicated situation and once you hear everything, it may change how you see me.
what were the last 5 songs that you’ve listened to?
撒野 凯瑟喵
夜雨晚风 芝麻Mochi
半生雪 七叔
飞鸟和蝉 Ren Ran
杀手 JJ Lin
All Chinese songs, yes. I listen to those a lot and don’t have an unique taste by any means. These songs are all pretty popular and recommended to me by friends. I don’t actively seek out music on my own. When I like a song, I typically listen to it on repeat until I can’t stand it anymore. I know, it’s terrible and ruins good songs, I should consider changing this habit.
What? Yes, of course I listen to songs from the company artists, but I guess those aren’t the most recent.
I do tend to favor sad/emotional songs because they touch me the most.
what were the 5 most recent online searches?
Legacy Actors - I was...trying to make plans for the future. See, I’ve been at Legacy as a trainee for three years now, and wanted to make a change. I guess I was just googling to see if anybody has some sort of advice.
Chicken dishes - Because chicken was on sale, I bought that so needed to search up a new recipe. I am sorry, this must be really boring.
Beef Stew with Tofu - Instead of carrots and potatoes, I decided to make the stew with tofu, hence the new search.
Beef Stew with Carrots and Potatoes - Original dinner plans. I was going to have lots of carrots for health purposes.
How many coffees a day is too much? - I’ve been thinking about cutting back a little. Currently, I have two cups per day.
the moment that he does, alex begins to chew before instantly regretting it soon after. the saltiness of the cookie has his eyes widening slightly, expression twisting as his nose scrunches at the taste, before finally returning his attention to the other male. “you realize this cookie has too much salt… right?”
Patience, an innocent smile and a good reputation earned him his prize. Lin laughed as Alex’s eyes widened, happy that his first ever prank attempt in life ended in success.
“I didn’t want to be the only one to fall for the seniors’ tricks.” He explained, and started handing Alex his bottle of water, only to remember it had vinegar, which in his opinion was significantly worse than the salted cookies. “These are pranked too. We probably have to find water somewhere else.” He threw the bottle into a bin because he had no intention of pranking Alex a second time, because that would be going too far.
“Are you enjoying the concert so far?” Lin asked, eyes scanning the busy crowd and all the cheery people. “I am just glad I don’t have to do anything today.”
He still felt out of place among all of his talented fellow trainees with his lack of coordination. However, watching the acting show case earlier gave him a spike of inspiration. Perhaps there were things that he could do for this company. “What’s new, Alex? Are you famous yet?”
when it was finally time to leave, yujin quickly packed her bags, said goodbyes to those who were still lingering around the company, and made her way to their special meeting place, hoping that the owner had kept the table cleared for the night.
As planned, the meat was already sizzling by the time Yujin sat down. He poured her a glass of water first, then filled another glass half full with soju. Might as well, they didn’t have classes the next day.
“Sneaking around is not like us.” Lin commented, laying a piece of lettuce onto his plate. They were both considered the good kids type, after all. He supposed he would have felt more guilty if they were important, but as of now, with their trainee statuses firmly in place, they were nobodies to the company as well as the rest of South Korea. How to maintain their relationship once they become famous - or if they ever do in Lin’s case - can be something to worry about for another day.
His eyes scanned over the options and carefully selected what he felt like was the best cooked morsel. Adding that, and her favorite side dishes atop the lettuce, it was not long before he made a perfectly wrapped bundle. “For you,” Lin handed Yujin his offering.
“You know, my birthday is coming up.” Well, technically it was still two weeks away, but that didn’t matter because he wanted to celebrate early. “When my dad was still around, he did good wish notes for all of us.” Lin tugged a small wooden box out of his backpack and placed onto the table. “Essentially we get all of our closest people - friends, family - to write some sort of good wish they have for us.” He added a pad of sticky notes and a pen beside the box. “Normally people only get one wish on their birthdays, but the Bai family is full of cheaters.” Lin grinned.
“This year, I was hoping you can write me my first note.”
“you should come in. you’re going to get sick.” he informs him, pointing to his own residence. something tells kai it’s wise to delay sending him back home for the time being. “my parents aren’t home, don’t worry. i won’t tell anyone.”
Once upon a time, he found the rain comforting. He liked listening to it tap against the window glass and watching tiny droplets pool into small ponds that he could later lead his siblings into to play. Now, the rain no longer felt so pleasant - it chilled him, and reminded him that there was no longer someone holding an umbrella over his head.
At the neighboring kid’s offer, Lin knew the answer should have been no. It was important for Chinese families to save face and ensure their reputation remained immaculate to the outsiders. That said, why should he bother when his mother never cared to keep her voice down anyway. Lin felt the desire to be rebellious in his chest, but was unsure if he dared to indulge it.
He lowered his eyes in contemplation, wet lashes quivering with the weight of rain and perhaps something else.
In the end, it came down to this - he really didn’t want to go home.
"Okay,” he said eventually, taking one hesitant step towards Kai’s residence, followed by another. By his third step, his mind was firmly made up. “Sorry for troubling you.” Lin bowed to show his appreciation, and made sure to leave his very wet shoes at the door. Next, he wrung as much water as possible from his clothes. “I can mop up before I leave,” he promised.
