this is very out of what i would normally post/ interact with on here but i see a lot of it on other media platforms im not as active on so i feel like its important to address.

biphobia is real and is worse than being homophobic. it makes it so much harder to come out when you like both genders because of the stigma that if you get into a relationship with one gender, people will invalidate your attraction to the other.

and i had this happen to me recently. for context im nonbinary (afab) and not out to my parents gender-wise. being bi does not affect my gender, liking men does not make me straight and liking women does not make me gay. its just how it is. and its the same for other bi people. however my mum made a comment that because im in a relationship with a guy it means i dont like girls… even though for at 5 years of my life i was openly a lesbian… and it hurt. it really fucking hurt because i thought that that wouldnt happen to me by my own family. and my family while say they arent homophobic or transphobic, say and act in ways that make homophobic and transphobic but at least they try around me about my sexuality to be understanding. and then i got a boyfriend who i love. and it kind of just threw the past several years of my sexuality out the window. i didnt even think i was bi until very end of last year and even then i was wrestling quite a lot with myself about because of the preconception that i had that i wouldnt like girls anymore and that my attraction to them would disappear and be dismissed.

its so hard because ive been openly queer for almost half my life about 7 or 8 years now and im still battling with being okay with who am i in a world that is increasingly becoming more hateful and hopeful.

i would not be as out to my parents if i originally thought i was bi… for the longest time i thought i was gay because i couldnt fathom the idea that i could allow myself to like the opposite gender without my feelings for the same gender being invalidated by not only me but everyone else. and i didnt realise how much it hurt until recently. we deserve sunshine ☀️
