MASTERLIST
Xavier
The first time he knew it was when you came to work. At the association, when he was waiting for you so you two could deploy for the first mission of the day, he found the new haircut. However, his first thing he watched wasn’t how you cut the hair, or how you decide to change the hairstyle, it was the expression you made while walking closer to him.
Is there any confidence? Is there any smile within your expression? And the most important one, did you feel confident in your new hairstyle? He doesn’t really care what kind of hairstyle you try, as long as you’re fine and comfortable with it, he will make sure to cherish it the most.
“Did you like the new hairstyle?” Instead of you, Xavier was the first to break the silence, asking about the haircut.
Feeling a bit embarrassed, you couldn’t help but play with your hair for a moment and said, “I think it’s fine for now. Although I feel a bit strange, maybe because I’m not used to it yet. Did you like it?”
“As long as you like it,” Xavier whispered, his voice low in your ear.
His hand gently played with your hair, brushing his fingers and feeling each strand of your hair glide through his skin. His smile grew wider when he reached the end, somehow looking as if he was satisfied. It was you who cut your hair, but it feels like Xavier who has accomplished a mission.
“Why are you so happy like that?” you finally asked, looking at how Xavier finally took a few steps back so he could see your face properly. “I was the one getting a haircut; it feels like you were the one excited. Is it because I rarely try a new hairstyle?”
Hearing your words, Xavier’s eyes become soft, his look even shows as if he were enchanted. His look alone only shows how smitten he was with you.
“Nothing much. I just love it when you look so confident with your own style. And right now, you look so pretty. Your smile is brighter than the stars … you’re just so beautiful and radiant. That’s why I really love it when ….”
Xavier didn’t finish his words, only rubbing the back of his neck before looking at you through the side of his eyes, trying to read your expression. When you say nothing, only stare at him, all blushing, he finally took your hand, intertwining your fingers with his.
“Let’s just start the work. If we only stand idle here, I couldn’t help but appreciate your beauty more each second.”
Zayne
The shocked and confused feeling within Zayne came at the same time. On one side, he was glad that you came without any new bruises or wounds from fighting the Wanderer, but when he saw the new hair, he was left speechless. It’s not like you who will cut your hair randomly, nor change your hair without asking him. Yet, here you were, ready to get a check-up with your new hair.
“Is there something wrong?” you asked him, trying to act nonchalant and not touching your hair. Even without him saying it, you were perfectly aware of his stare.
“It’s something new, I might say,” Zayne finally said, gaining his composure back. “It’s refreshing.”
Feeling conscious of his stare, you couldn’t help but ask, “Is it strange? Is it … I don’t know, ugly perhaps?”
Zayne, not only being considerate of his words, shook his head. His expression showed everything, confusion and questioning how could that kind of words could even cross your mind. Instead of focusing on the check-up he should have done, he caressed your cheek from across the table. Although it felt awkward for a moment, he pushed away any thoughts and only focused on you.
His top priority will always be you.
“As long as you like the new haircut, I wouldn’t find it strange at all. Did you really like it? But despite that … why was the sudden change?”
Playing with your now new hair, you explained, “A Wanderer attack, they were my first hairstylist before I decided to cut it off like now. I didn’t want to go everywhere with a strange haircut. How can I explain to others, like ‘oh, this haircut? It’s from a Wanderer attack!’ Everyone would look at me like I’m a lunatic!”
With your increasing voice, Zayne was seen to hold back a laugh, stifling his voice with his hand that was retracted from your cheek. Seeing him like that, you couldn’t help but pout. He always acts like this, as if you’re some joke that can be laughed at.
“Zayne!” you called out to him.
Zayne takes a deep breath, composing himself once again before he starts to talk. Yet, just when he started to talk, he couldn’t help but burst into a small laughter, already imagining how you get the haircut from Wanderer. With his reaction, you finally stand up from your seat, go to his side, and slap his shoulder multiple times until he is able to be calm.
“I just find it a bit funny how your hair was cut by Wanderer to the point you need a haircut. However,” Zayne started, changing his tone immediately. “As I said, as long as you’re fine with your hair, you will always look pretty. And more importantly, is that you are all fine. That’s what matters the most to me.”
Ending his words, Zayne’s hand, both of them, went to cup your cheeks, caressing your face for a few moments with the eyes that hold adornment. He couldn’t look away whenever you’re by his side; no matter what kind of hairstyle you have, you will always look the best in his eyes.
Rafayel
“CUTIE?!”
The first step you take into his studio, his shout echoes, startling you even when you are aware of the possibility that he will have a big reaction. His eyes widen, almost like they will fall out of the socket. With his mouth agape, he looks at you up and down, as if trying to make sure that what he sees wasn’t wrong. Once he let everything sink in, Rafayel stretched his hand towards you, asking for a hug.
“Cutie, why didn’t you tell me about cutting your hair? I didn’t know why you kept this a secret. I can perfectly suggest a perfect haircut and hairstyle for you!”
With his words, you couldn’t help but play with your hair when letting his arms wrap around your body. “Is it strange? Or is it ugly? I shouldn’t have cut my hair, right?”
“What? What are you talking about, Cutie?” Rafayel let you sit on his lap before playing with your hair too, admiring every strand. “I didn’t mean it like that, I only wanted to be involved in your fashion style and cutting. That way, I can see you in your new skin faster and appreciate you too at that exact moment.”
After offering a smile to you, Rafayel would kiss your hair, from left, back, right, to the front, making sure each side receives the same love from him. The look on his eyes shows just how much he likes the new hair, making sure that you understand his feelings, too. Just one look at his eyes, you could dive deep into his genuine love written all over them.
“So, it’s not bad?” Rafayel shook his head. “It’s not ugly or strange? Is it okay?”
This time, Rafayel nodded before he said, “Anything you like, I will like it too. If you prefer it short, then I will like it short, if you prefer it to be long, then I like it long, if you like it in a braid, then you’re free to do so. As long as my Cutie loves it, I will feel the same.”
By the end of his words, Rafayel put his head on your shoulder, his fingers still busy with your hair. His stare locked into your new hair, as if trying to compare the previous one from now. Just like he said, no matter what kind of hairstyle you have, he will probably still like it. No matter what kind of haircut you did, and although he was shocked, he will still appreciate it, as long as you feel like yourself.
“Next time, if I ever want to cut my hair, I will tell you beforehand. If there’s a possibility, would you want to be the one to cut my hair?”
“Of course, Cutie! I will make sure that your haircut will be the best out of the best!”
Sylus
He was busy with his gun when you stepped into the base, conscious of his stare. Although he was looking at you, he said nothing, as if waiting for you to take the bait. Yet, his hand never stops fiddling with the gun, his eyes still locked to you, but his expression tells everything. A smirk was seen, while his eyebrow was lifted, taunting you. He was waiting for you to talk first.
Couldn’t take the tension anymore, you decided to plop down beside him on the sofa. A stifled sigh came from your lips, looking at Sylus once again before you finally stared at the floor that seemed more interesting than his glowing eyes. The first to break the silence was Mephisto, cawing at you as if trying to ask.
“Is it strange that you have to stare at me like that?” you asked, playing with your hair to calm down your nerves.
“No, it’s interesting, Kitten. For what reason did you decide to change your hair suddenly? If you told me beforehand, I could arrange a hairstylist for you. Only the best, right?”
“That’s NOT something I need,” you stress over your words, the frown on your forehead looks even more evident now. “Is it that bad to make you stare and say nothing?”
Before Sylus could answer, Mephisto was the first to talk. “Now, now, let me intervene for you,” Sylus said, looking at Mephisto. “I believe that any hairstyle would suit you, however … it’s amusing. Mind telling me the reason for this sudden change?”
“Just because …?” When the doubt was seen on Sylus’ expression, you couldn’t help but sigh and play with your hair for a moment. “Somehow, a gum stuck to my hair, and I have no choice but to cut it. If I let it, the gum might still have been stuck within.”
A low chuckle, not mocking, can be heard from Sylus. He whispered right next to your ear, “Kitten, instead of cutting your hair, I could call someone to take care of it. You’re choosing the hard way.”
“So you didn’t like this new hair?” you retorted, watching his expression shift for a moment within close.
“Did I ever say it like that? You know that it wasn’t true, Kitten. Instead ….” Sylus chuckled once again, running his finger through your new hair and giving a satisfied smile. “I wanted to ask you that question, did you like your new hair?”
“Well, it’s not like I could do something, right?”
“You should have known me, you can get a temporary extension for your hair ….”
“SYLUS! I didn’t need such things!”
Once he finds your small fight, he couldn’t help but chuckle once again, satisfied with how he was able to tease you even when you know him well. Without saying anything anymore, he kissed the crown of your head and stared deeply into your eyes.
“Whatever hair you pick, you will look good in my eyes, Kitten.”
Caleb
There were some doubts and fear within yourself when you came home. Knowing that Caleb was at Linkon for the moment, you should have postponed cutting your hair. Yet, now that it was all in the past, there’s no way for you to grow a hair instantly, trying your best to accept any shout or shriek coming from Caleb.
“Pip-squeak, you’re finally home … ah?!” The puppy-Caleb was there for a few moments, bringing a dish he had made, before he stared at you with shock. He watches your whole body, trying to see if there was another change besides your hair. When he found none, he started rambling in one breath, "Pip-squeak, why was the sudden hair change? Why did you cut your hair? Is there a specific reason you cut your hair? Or is it time already for you to cut your hair? Did I miss the time you should cut your hair? I should have been more attentive to your time to cut your hair ….”
“Caleb, no!” You cut him off before he went further. “It’s not like that, you’re not at fault.”
Caleb went silent for a few moments, trying to process the words you told him. With a little oh, he nodded before letting you enter your own house, bringing you to the dining table, and tasting a bit of his cooking. Although he said nothing, you know that his eyes followed your movement, watching everything closely and making sure to catch every one of your expressions.
“Caleb?” you called out, taking the food given to taste it. “You'd better tell me if something was bothering you.”
“It’s just … I was the one who usually cut your hair, and you always whine when I didn’t do my job, or if I didn’t cut it as you said prettily. I know that you have been getting haircuts at the salon since I went to Skyhaven, but now that I’m here ….”
“It’s actually called by the association,” you confess, not looking at Caleb when you talk. When he taps the table, you finally look up to see the expression he gives. “Why?”
“Mind telling me what really happened?”
“You didn’t like how my new hair looks? Should I get a hair extension so it looks like before?”
Caleb shook his head, caressing your cheeks before brushing your hair out of your face. The little smile on his lip looked more serious than how his tone sounded. The sudden change in him made you stop chewing the food.
“There’s no such thing as you didn’t look pretty or good enough with a new haircut. Any hairstyle suits you. You will always look beautiful, and I will always love whatever haircut you pick, Pip-squeak. However, I hope that next time you will let me cut it, just like how we did in our childhood.”
“What if you mess up?”
Caleb smiles and chuckles lowly, ruffling your hair before he said, “Then I guess I will just let you do the same to me. You can cut my hair too, we can play dress up, you can pick the perfect haircut for me, and I will choose one for you. Also, you didn’t need to feel insecure. Even if it was a bad haircut, Caleb was here to repair it. Your capable Caleb will always be here for you.”

Stuck in a long-distance relationship, Caleb has always appreciated any call, and moreover, a video call. Each time he has, he would spend his time stuck with his phone just so he could talk with the most important person to him. He didn’t want to be disturbed, nor did he want to care about anything else but the girl he was talking to.
Sadly, the past few weeks' work has been hectic for the two of them. There were barely any calls between them, and when he was finally able to get the time, instead of a video call to be able to see her, all Caleb got was a normal voice call, exchanging about their days and weeks, about their works, and if Caleb was able to come to Linkon or the other way around.
“Is it really impossible to see your face? Or, are you wounded because of your recent mission? That’s why you won’t let me see your face, right?”
Even though he already knew the possibility was high, and the fact that she would say no to his words, Caleb still tries, hoping that at least she will tell the truth; moreover, when he had already found out about it.
“I’m not wounded, I’ve given you the photo already, no scratch and no wound.” The reply he got was sure, and Caleb found no hesitation in her words.
He did see the photo, and she was clean.
“Pip-squeak, don’t lie to me? Even if you’re not wounded, what reason made you not want to do a video call? Don’t you want to see my face?”
As if considering Caleb’s words, the girl was silent for a few moments before she changed the call into a video one. However, the moment Caleb turned his camera on, all he saw was black from her side, while he showed his upper body, with his casual clothes and sweat almost everywhere. After all, he just finished working out.
“What is that? Why am I the only one who turns on the camera? Pips, why are you acting like this? If you really didn’t have anything to hide, you didn’t have a reason to do all of this, right?”
“You’re really pushy, Caleb. Why did you even want to see my face so eagerly? You will be coming to Linkon this weekend, right?”
“And today is Monday, Pips. There are still five more days to wait, and I haven’t seen you for more than two months.”
“It’s okay. You will survive.”
The answer given to Caleb was a bit cold, and he was left speechless. A frown appeared on his forehead, and at the same time, he was giving a puppy-eyed eyed, hoping she would see it and give in. This time, Caleb was in a slump; all of his attempts were futile, even when he had already acted cute in front of her. With that, Caleb knew something big was hidden from him.
Can it be that she was with someone else at home now?
“Then … you have eaten, right? Is there any food you’re craving? Or is there any menu that you wanted to eat recently?”
“So, you’re coming back just to become my slave? That’s fun, so I will list all the food that I want. Make sure to cook all of it. I will send the list later.”
“You’re so eager to talk about me cooking for you, that’s nothing new, but funny. Okay, Pip-squeak, your personal chef will work overtime for you.”
The other line was silent for quite a long time before Caleb finally heard the voice he missed so dearly. “Caleb, do you remember the food that we always eat? What was it? I don’t really remember the name, or the color, but I know it was kind of like a soup, and you always made it when the weather wasn’t that good.”
“Ah, I think I know what you’re talking about. What about that?”
“Can you send me the recipe? My friend in the Association said the weather was bad recently, and people might get sick. I wanted to cook some for them.”
Like being hit with a brick, Caleb bit his lower lip, and his face was clearly seen through the phone. However, he didn’t know if she saw his expression or if she missed it. Part of him didn’t want the girl to read his expression, probably know that he had already found out about the things she hid from him.
“The recipe? I can give it to you, but was it okay if I give you tomorrow? I need to remind myself more clearly and make it so it is easy for you to make.”
“Thank you.”
It was short, and there was no attempt to fight back coming from the girl. Caleb knew her too well that he immediately understand that she really needed that recipe. Not wanting the girl to feel uncomfortable, especially when talking with him, Caleb decided to start the conversation with a new topic, making their chat lighter.
This time, the girl responded to him, although a bit rarely, with a low chuckle now and then. The conversation exchanged by them also turned into a better one, with no hidden feelings and no doubts in between. When Caleb noticed the time, he immediately told her to rest, not wanting to eat the time where she could rest properly.
Instead of ending the call, she only let the call continue; she even said that she wanted to hear Caleb’s routine while she was asleep. Her last words were what made Caleb’s heart clench, her saying that his presence made her calm. A sigh came from Caleb when he heard it, feeling all sorts of things at the same time. How could she say it so casually?
As a result, Caleb was wrapping up his day while listening to her soft snores, indicating that she had fallen asleep. Another sigh came from Caleb before he stared at his phone, knowing that he won’t be able to see anything from her side. With a low voice, Caleb finally ended the call with his usual words.
“Goodnight, Pip-squeak, rest well.”
From all she could remember, she had forgotten to close the curtain properly before she lay down on the bed. However, when she smells something nice, something that brings nostalgia, her room is dark, as if someone has closed her curtains. It took her a few minutes before coming to her senses, and at the same time, someone’s step could be heard getting closer to her.
With his build and the smell that most probably was food, it’s hard for her to realize it was Caleb. Although he has said that he was busy with Fleet’s work, he has somehow already arrived in Linkon. No question was given to Caleb; instead, she stared at the clock on her bedside. It was almost midday, and she had been sleeping all this time.
“Good morning, Pips. Are you ready to have breakfast with me?”
“Gege …,” she called.
From the night before, she had known that something was wrong with herself. Either she was stressed out, or she was under the weather. Through the call with Caleb, she has ruled out that she was probably going to get sick. However, she also knew that Caleb was busy with work, and she didn’t want to make him come to her just to take care of her when it wasn’t big. She can just sleep and get better after.
“Gege, I’m sorry,” she said again, holding both of her hands towards Caleb.
“There’s no need to be sorry about. For now, just eat the food I made and drink the medicine. And I’m not forcing you to take it. The way you call me, twice even, has melted all my anger. What should I do with you, Pip-squeak?”
“You will feed me, right? Gege will treat me nice, right?”
Her stare was innocent, and yet Caleb still felt his heart beating faster. Whenever it came to her, Caleb could never say no, always weak, and always listened to her words. Without saying anything, Caleb helped the girl to sit properly and rest on the bed head before feeding her the way she wanted. At first, she was hesitant, not knowing that Caleb would obey her words.
“My hand would hang here until you take it.” It was the only words needed from Caleb before she finally started to eat. Slowly but surely, with Caleb keeping on talking and bringing up random topics, the food has finally been polished off. “Is it the same taste as before? Did you like it?”
She was silent for a moment, trying to understand what Caleb was talking about. “Ah, yes. Maybe, because you’re here by my side too, the taste really brings me back to the past.”
Caleb has chosen the right recipe, cooking the food she was craving for, and made it perfectly like when they were still little. Just like before, too, Caleb made it for her when she felt under the weather. She’s probably sick, she did have a fever, but at the same time, she also felt quite healthy, so she could still do her everyday basic chores.
“The medicine is right here, coming right to you.” Caleb prepared the medicine, feeding her before clearing up all the used things. “I’ll be back in a few. Is there anything else you wanted?”
“Will you let me eat an ice cream?”
Caleb ponders for a few moments, leaning his head to feel her forehead before giving a little space between them. A short kiss on the crown of her head was given before Caleb said, “Your condition isn’t that bad. You did feel a bit uncomfortable with your body, sluggish, tired, and aching. An ice cream won’t affect it.”
A low shout of happiness came out from her, making Caleb chuckle even louder. He patted her head affectionately before ruffling her hair, giving another kiss on her forehead before leaving the bedroom. It might be dark, but the darkness was what made her comfortable. Her eyes, probably sensitive to the lights, feel comfortable with how her room feels right now.
It really did not take long for Caleb to come back, bringing the ice cream bucket he had promised. Instead of two spoons, Caleb only brought one, and he even got to her side almost instantly. With a bit of force, not hurting her, Caleb made the girl lean on his shoulder. Slowly, he scoops the ice cream before giving it to her. He also eats some, looking and making sure she doesn’t mind.
“For today’s house chores, you can leave it to me. You can watch me while doing all of that.”
“When will you go back to Skyhaven?”
“Pips, I just got here, and you already asked that? It doesn’t matter, I will be here until you feel really okay.” Caleb was hesitant for a moment before his arm snuck behind her, went to her head, and patted there gently. “You know that I could always catch when you’re hiding something, so why not do the video call earlier?”
“Maybe because … I wanted to see you come?” When the words came from her lips, she stared right into Caleb’s eyes, making sure that the only thing that she saw was him. Realizing what she just said, she immediately hid her face in the crook of Caleb’s neck, nuzzling there. “You’re warm. I wanted to sleep here for now. Forget about the chores.”
“Sometimes, I wonder what was in your mind,” Caleb answered with a chuckle. Letting the girl cling to him, Caleb put away the ice cream bucket, repositioning himself and her so she could have a better position to sleep. “Sleep tight, Pip-squeak, I will be here when you’re awake, and I won’t go anywhere. You will be okay, all those pains and sicknesses will be gone the moment you open your eyes. Because I will personally kick them out of you.”
“It’s the same as you kick me, though?” Caleb decided not to say anything to her retorts, playing with her hair in the hope it would make her sleepy. “Thank you for coming, Gege. With you by my side, I already feel better. So, thank you very much for coming for me."

Bringing his kitten to an auction has become Sylus’ habit. He knows that she won’t say no, especially when she has no mission in hand, and the fact that she wanted to spend more time with him, even if it meant spending it at a luxurious auction. As long as they were together, any activities would be fun.
“How would you rate today’s auction?” Sylus, driving his car, stole a glance at the girl who sat beside him. There was one thing Sylus had taken notice of from the start of their journey back. The girl has said nothing to him. “Does the auction bore you? Or did you regret not finding things you wanted there for yourself?”
Sylus didn’t need anyone to tell him that his words might sound bad to some people. He was doing it on purpose, hoping to get a reaction or a response from the girl. When none came, Sylus’ frown went deeper, and the smirk he had to show dominance was all gone. Now, he was sure something was wrong with her.
Tapping his finger to the steer, Sylus was contemplating what he could say or what he needed to do. What if the words that came from his lips only hurt her feelings? Did she need him to say something? Did she only want this serene moment between them once and then? Why does it feel like he barely knows about what goes on in her mind now?
After doubting himself for a long time, another sigh came from Sylus before he made a decision about what he needed or could say. He still isn’t sure if his words would be good enough for her not to get mad at him, but at the same time, he was used to her getting angry and throwing a tantrum at him. He thinks it’s cute.
“Your feet must have hurt. We can work on it once we get home.” Sylus' words earn a nod from the girl this time, making him feel a bit relieved. At least, he got a response. “Is there any food you wanted or any drinks for your request?”
She was hesitant for a moment before she said with a low voice, “I’m not in the mood to have dinner, something light to fill the stomach, maybe.”
“I can tell ….”
“Can you be the one to make it, Sylus?” The sudden eagerness and the way she cut him off—asking something from him—made the man almost lose his focus while driving; his eyes could only stare at her. Hesitation once again came, but one of his hands went to her thigh, giving a light squeeze to support her.
“If that’s what my Kitten wants, I should make one, right?”
Although Sylus was trying to act as though he had everything under control, the way he wanted, he couldn’t help but feel he had lost control. There must be something within her she didn’t tell him, something that might be important. For now, he wanted to trust the girl first, making sure she was comfortable when around him.
Once she washes up, Sylus brings a bucket of warm water filled with fragrance oil to make sure it relaxes her. Even when she said she could do it by herself, not wanting Sylus to go over his way by kneeling in front of her and washing her feet. It feels like she only became his burden more and more with him treating her like this.
“You better clear your mind and doubts about those kinds of thoughts, Kitten. Treating you like a princess is the only way to treat you. There’s no other way for you to be treated. Instead of babbling your mouth and saying strange things, it’s better for you to finish the food I make for you.”
“I think you’re the one talking too much,” she replied, pushing the fork in her hand towards Sylus’ lips, forcing him to eat the food he made.
Her act succeeded in making Sylus chuckle lowly, hands still busy with her feet. There would always be an interesting moment whenever he was with her. Her resistance, words, and actions somehow always amused him. She could always entertain him, just like a true kitten.
The sudden noise coming from her made Sylus look up. While she was supposed to enjoy the food he made, she suddenly let go of the fork, making the loud noise from before. Her face contorted in disgust and a mix of pain. Did he, by accident, grip her ankle too hard? Did he, by accident, use a spoiled ingredient to make the food?
“You okay, Kitten?” Sylus asked, looking at the girl more seriously.
“No,” she choked on her words, holding back something. “I just … I’m okay.”
With how abruptly she ended the conversation, Sylus was much more sure that there was something she was trying to hide. Although he didn’t know what the reason might be, Sylus would keep an eye on her movements. Lowering his voice, he asked her if he could continue his work, massaging her feet. Knowing how serious he was, she decided to let him while finishing the food slowly.
“If you didn’t want to finish it, you didn’t have to force yourself.” Sylus' words ring inside her head, as if a reminder for her not to worry about a thing. “I can still eat it too, you will go rest after this.”
“It’s okay. I ask you for this, something light. I will eat it with joy.”
Although the smile was intact on her lips, Sylus easily noticed it didn’t reach her eyes. With more pressure to hide something from him, he couldn’t help but to make speculation about the situation. It might not be only her feet that hurt; something else must have hurt, and she couldn’t say it to him directly.
Once she has finished, Sylus brings her to the bed with no words exchanged, lifting her and saying the line he didn’t want his hard work in massaging her feet to come to an vain. Instead of fighting him or telling him she didn’t need that, Sylus was faced with silence, something that never came from her. That one act has made Sylus sure that something was really wrong.
“Sy.” The call to his name came too suddenly in the late night. While Sylus was not yet asleep, he didn’t expect her to call out his name. “Are you there …?”
“I’m here, Kitten, what is it?” Sylus takes a big step towards the bed, and in an instant already by her side. “You’re ….”
A frown finally made to Sylus’ forehead, looking at how the girl was hugging herself in pain, looking like she was sick and not in the best shape. The gear in his head was working overtime, thinking about what might be the cause. Was it the food she ate while they were in the auction? Or was it after? Did the symptoms appear when they drove home?
“My head hurts a bit,” she mumbled, being cut off before she could explain her situation to Sylus.
“I didn’t think it was a bit.” Not wasting a second, Sylus immediately checked her temperature. For sure, he knew that the girl did have a fever. “Wait for a moment.”
Sylus’ tone shows urgency, and when she finally came back to reality, she was accompanied by the twins, looking at her intently as if wanting to make sure she was alive. The mumbled voices and words exchanged by them slowly come to her; either Luke or Kieran was scolding the others, telling them she was just sick and not dead.
The bickering stops when Sylus enters the bedroom, tray in hand. When he noticed she was finally awake, Sylus dismissed the twins, along with Mephisto, who was somehow on the bed’s head all the time. A low clinking sound came when Sylus put the tray on the bedside, showing not only food prepared, there were also medicine.
A guilt filled inside the girl once she realized he was away to prepare everything, he even called the twins—with Mephisto—to watch over her, making sure that her sickness didn’t get worse when he was away. At a time like this, Sylus was supposed to prepare to sleep, not take care of someone, especially a person who was sick.
“Sy, I …,” she started, only to get cut off by Sylus, sitting on her side and putting his palm on her forehead.
“Your temperature didn’t go down, but at least it’s not rising like before. You need to drink first, because your body heat has made your lips chapped. You didn’t need to say anything.” With his words, Sylus took the glass from the tray, giving it to her while helping her to sit straight. “Are you dizzy? Did you prefer to lie down?”
“Yeah.” When the answer came, Sylus felt like he was finally able to get the control he had been missing before.
Silently, Sylus helped the girl to lie back down after drinking some water. Although it’s not much, he knows it was better than not taking any. While watching her get comfortable with the bed, he was glad that he had been using the right fabric to make it cold and warm at the same time. The worry in his eyes never went away, only made her feel guilty.
“Let’s just rest, Sy,” she finally said, voice a bit hoarse. “I wanted to sleep with you.”
Her words were accompanied by her hand hanging up, asking for a hug from Sylus. However, the man didn’t reply immediately. He held both of her hands in his, not hugging her or lying down with her, only standing his ground. The serious look he gave made her even more guilty. So she did bother him.
“As much as I wanted to sleep with you now, you have to eat something first. If I had known you were not feeling well since last night, I would have chosen proper food. Last night, you must have felt sick already, right? That’s why you’re not really into eating.”
“I thought it would go away,” she answered in a small voice, eyes looking away from him. At a moment like this, Sylus might be a bit intimidating.
“Even if it would, I prefer you had told me beforehand, Kitten. When you suddenly called out to me, eyes bleary and holding back a pain, I thought you were injured. I was one step away from calling a doctor, but you held onto my hand tightly. Also, the twins said it’s just a normal sickness, and it would go away with a proper rest.”
“Yes, it will. That’s why, Sy, sleep with me? The soon almost rising.”
“Just after you eat something and drink a medicine. As much as I want you to rest or drink a medicine, I prefer for you to fill your stomach first before taking any medicine.” Sylus was hesitant for a few moments, wanting to make sure he chose the right words. “You can lean on me while eating, that way, you wouldn’t feel dizzy, right?”
The suggestion Sylus made the girl ponder for a few seconds before smiling and nodding at him. Once he got the permit, Sylus skillfully and slowly not to cause any dizziness to her, made the girl sit straight while he was getting to the bed too, going behind her immediately. He put her head on his shoulder to rest before taking the food from the bedside and spoon-fed her slowly.
Although it’s not much, Sylus was satisfied when he got her to eat enough for her to take the medicine. Even when she had already drunk the medicine, Sylus didn’t move from where he was, still holding the girl in his arms and hugging her from behind.
“You will say sorry again, right?” Sylus’ words were right, even before she could say a thing, Sylus already guessed everything. “You didn’t need to feel guilty for not telling me. But, taking care of you has always been the thing I'm supposed to do, Kitten.”
“Now, you will rest with me, right?”
Looking at how eager the girl was, Sylus chuckled before playing with her hair. “Of course. Let’s rest together, Kitten. I will make sure that you get better when you’re awake. No need to worry about a mere sickness like this. Because I will be with you to beat this sickness.”

A frown and a look of displeased was seen on Zayne’s face. With his work attire, wearing his doctor coat, the girl shrank in her seat. It should be a regular check-up, like an everyday thing she does, especially after she finishes a hard mission that goes on for days. Yet, this time, the person in front of her wasn’t only Zayne, her childhood friend and partner.
The person in front of her was Doctor Zayne Li, her primary physician.
“I think I told you to eat properly. Did the Hunter Association didn’t provide real food to their agents? It was a long mission, and a tough one. Taking care of oneself is just a basic human instinct. But I guess, right now, you didn’t have that.”
“Zayne,” a whine was heard as a call.
“It was Doctor Zayne for you. You’re still inside my room.” Hearing the way Zayne responded, a pout could be seen, the girl shrank back to the seat she was currently in. “Your condition has been strange since yesterday, and for tonight, you will go straight to rest.”
“Why are you acting like this now, Doctor Zayne?” The girl’s question made Zayne lift his glasses, which slid down from the bridge of his nose. One look from the man told her everything. “Sorry, I should have taken care of myself better. But it’s not my fault! The mission was important, I barely had time to eat ….”
The more she tried to defend herself, the more she sounded weak, looking down and avoiding Zayne’s gaze as if he would be able to eat her alive. Noticing her act, both of her hands were squeezing the other in fear, Zayne let out a long sigh and rubbed his temple. It’s not the first time things like this have happened between them, and each time, he has always been the one to yield.
“We can eat dinner together, I only need to wrap up before I can go home. I will drive you too.”
Instead of a clear answer, the girl only mumbled for a few moments, not giving an answer to Zayne or anything that would satisfy him. Being scolded by him is not the best thing, and even when she already knew it was because he cared about her, the feeling she felt right now never changed. Zayne did make her feel like she neglected herself.
Knowing his lover for a long time, it was easy for him to notice what made her act like now. Another sigh came from him before he patted her hair, looking at her with gentle eyes and trying to smile. It’s not her fault for getting herself stuck with a condition that shows she lacks sleep and has barely eaten in the past few days.
She is just too devoted to her work.
“Let’s grab something to eat now, Snowflake.”
With the changing tone from Zayne and the look he gives, a small smile finally emerges from her. She stood up almost too fast, showing how eager she was to run away from the dreaded seat. However, with the sudden movement, she became lightheaded almost as fast as she stood up. Both of her hands went towards Zayne’s table to stabilize herself.
“Are you really that eager to walk away from this check-up?” Zayne asked, words tinted with a hint of a joke. When he got nothing as a reply, he knew the condition was far worse. “Should we just order food? You like them, right? I can cook for you too, but you haven’t eaten since this morning ….”
“Let’s just eat outside, and then we can go home,” she cut his words, giving an off smile.
Zayne couldn’t say anything else. Looking at how the girl acted, he felt like there was something she was trying to hide. Yet, when he just scolded her, he didn’t feel like nagging her one more time. He wanted to trust her, wanting to make sure that she was comfortable and knew he only cared for her, and was scared she would get sick.
His negligence, hoping to create a comfortable place for her, only made a hole in their relationship. She was silent all the time throughout the time he was driving. She did talk now and then when they ate, but Zayne noticed something was different with the way she acted. The question inside him was held back with fear. A fear of making her infuriated with his act.
The moment they were at home, Zayne couldn’t even ask if she wanted to wash up or if she wanted some warm tea first. The moment she entered the house, she went straight to the bathroom, not leaving any words to Zayne or a warning if she wanted to clean up first. Being worried more than before, Zayne decided to boil some water, making tea for her before bed, just like usual.
“Is something wrong with you? Did you … Did I hurt you with my words?” Zayne asked when he went to bed, discarding his work for the night just so he could have peace of mind. “I need to know what I did wrong first so I can apologize properly.”
The frown on Zayne’s face made the girl stare a little longer than usual. The same off smile was seen once again. “It’s not you who are in the wrong, I know that you’re just trying to remind me to take care of myself. I can be very forgetful about the important things, but you’re always there to remind me. I just feel … a bit off?”
“Your temperature has risen since before,” Zayne said when he put his hand to her forehead, trying to measure and compare it to when he was checking her at the hospital. “It might be an early stage of fever. I have made some tea, it's supposed to calm you so you can sleep without any problem.”
“Thank you, Zaynie,” she said, leaning on Zayne’s hand that went to her cheek.
“Next time, I would be more than happy if you could tell me about this beforehand. Even though we can prevent it now, I still think that the sooner the better. And no, it’s not me scolding you, I just wanted to make sure you’re always in good health.”
By the end of his words, Zayne was getting closer to the girl’s face, and he was hesitant for a moment before kissing her forehead. His cold lips were in contrast to her burning forehead, giving a strange sensation to the girl’s whole body. Although it was strange, part of her also enjoyed the sensation given.
While drinking the tea, making sure that it was still warm until it finished, there were no words exchanged between them. Zayne has always enjoyed the serene moments spent with them. Now and then, Zayne would look at the girl to make sure that the fever didn’t get worse; he also wanted to see if there were any changes in her body, such as chapped lips.
“For now, you'd better sleep. Rest as much as you need so your body can recover. We didn’t need you to suddenly fall sick or get worse than this.”
“Zayne … you told me to tell you sooner, right?” the girl started hesitantly, didn’t know if she should say it or not. When she finally locked eyes with Zayne, the hesitation was long gone. He needs to know. “My throat started to get itchy … did you think that maybe I’m already sick?”
Zayne was silent, a bit shocked to hear the honest words. However, he didn’t have time to reply to her or respond to any of her speculation as she started to talk nonstop, making assumptions about her condition and what might have happened to her tomorrow. It’s not until she coughs, Zayne takes the cup in her hand, puts it away, and hugs her, taking her to lie down with him.
“Whatever that might happen tomorrow, let it be for tomorrow. Your doctor is here after all, are you going to be the one to make the call about your sickness?” A low laugh, followed by another short cough, came from the girl. “That’s right, relax when you’re with me. We can take care of tomorrow together.”
Zayne’s words were filled with doubt. He didn’t know what would happen the next day, he didn’t know how worse it would be, but he was sure he would be with her through her sickness. The moment she got dramatic, the moment she started to think that she was in the worst situation, and when she started to worry about being a trouble.
“I’m sorry that I couldn’t be with you all the time. I can’t not come to the hospital today. But I’ve gotten your breakfast ready here, with your medicine. I will call you when I’m available, so please keep your phone’s notification on.” Guilt can be seen on Zayne’s face when he leans down, giving a light kiss on her burning forehead. “I’m not working overtime tonight.”
As he already expected, the sickness came crashing down on her, making her barely able to wake up from bed. As much as he wanted to stay by her side, he did know how important his work was, and how she would be disappointed if he didn’t come to work just because of her. As an exchange, Zayne did ask if she wanted to be treated at the hospital instead.
A clear no came, telling that she didn’t want to bother him while at work, and she knew she would be okay at home. She might get lonely at the moment he’s not there, but his phone call and voice message were enough for her to be able to stay put. With no one at home, she was groaning and crying as much as she wanted.
Taking a picture of what she eats, making sure Zayne knows she has eaten the medicine, and even a picture of herself lying down on the bed, she sent everything with the hope that Zayne would come home faster. While she was fast asleep, snoring lightly, Zayne stepped inside the house, noticing the slight mess she had made that he told her not to worry about.
“Your fever has come down a bit,” Zayne whispered while giving a light kiss. Once he finished cleaning the house, even preparing for dinner, he entered the bedroom to notice a sign of crying. “Does your throat still hurt? Is there anything uncomfortable with your body?”
“Zayne …?”
“I’m here, Snowflake. And I’m ready to take care of you.”
“But you’ve been taking care of a lot of patients all day.”
When a pout was seen, Zayne couldn’t help but chuckle. “There’s still one patient I haven’t properly taken care of. Your primary physician is here, and it’s my duty to take care of you. Dinner is here, and then you should drink your medicine.”
Zayne’s tone was not forcing her, just telling. A lot of sorry and kisses came from him, caressing her cheek and wiping off the tear stain. It was faint, but it was there. Feeling guilty won’t be enough; the only thing he could do was to take care of her, spoon-feed her, and help her to drink the medicine. The bitter taste of the medicine was easier to take with Zayne with her.
Sitting on his lap, resting her head on his shoulder, and embracing herself with his scent. Somehow, with his presence, the sickness she was currently having felt easier to face, her body had become lighter instead of uncomfortable all day, and her heart felt full with Zayne’s care and attention. All of that for her only.
“You’re warm …,” she mumbled, nuzzling closer to his body. Sensing that the medicine had started to kick in, Zayne started to move and made sure she was comfortable lying on top of him. “My whole body aches strangely, and I think I will die. It feels really bad without you around, but I’m doing good, right?”
“Of course, you are. May I say, you’re the bravest Hunter who faces this sickness alone. Next time … if something like this happens again, I will try to make some time for you.”
It was silent for a moment before an answer could be heard. “It’s okay. Waiting for you was worth it, Zayne. At least I know, when I’m sick, you’re always there taking care of me too. The message, the soup you made, everything. And at the end … I will be able to embrace you like this. The wait is worth it.”
“Then, sleep tight, Snowflake. You will get better tomorrow. No more sickness for you,” Zayne mumbled before giving a light peck to her lips, sending her to the dreamland to wish her healthy.

The success of Rafayel’s recent exhibition made him delighted than he had ever been. At first, he wasn’t sure whether to hold one, but based on how happy the girl he shared the good news with was, a small celebration was created. His aunt was supposed to be there too, however, the woman said she was busy with practice and she didn’t want to ruin the mood.
As a result, Rafayel was busy putting the seafood he chose on the girl’s plate beside him. His mouth was busy talking with Thomas, boasting about himself and his skill to attract people to buy his painting. Thomas, knowing fully that Rafayel did an amazing job with the painting, could only listen to his rambles while sometimes staring at the girl.
“Is there something wrong with the food?”
Startled, the girl looked at Thomas before looking at the plate in front of her, staring at the food that was barely eaten. She has lost count of how many times Rafayel filled her plate, and it was easy for her to make up a lie, acting as if she had her share filled enough. With a smile, trying her best not to look awkward, she finally voiced out what was on her mind.
“I already eat a lot, Rafayel kept on putting more and more food on my plate,” she said, adding with a low chuckle to make the air light around her.
“Cutie?!” Rafayel gasped, holding both of his hands in front of his chest. The expression he made succeeded in making the girl smile genuinely. “I only wanted to give you the best out of the best! You have to enjoy this feast to the fullest, especially since it was to celebrate my grand success!”
This time, an awkward smile can’t be hidden, her eyes darted around as if trying to find a way to run away from the situation she was in. It’s not like she didn’t enjoy the small party. The problem she was facing at the moment was the fact that she felt her stomach churn, as if she had eaten something wrong. The more she thought about it, wanting to know where everything went wrong, the more she felt sick in the stomach.
“Cutie, is there something wrong?” Noticing how silent she is, Rafayel tries to read the girl’s expression, only to be faced with a hand pushing his face away. “Cutie, what are you doing?”
Cries and groans filled the entire room, making Thomas somehow feel uncomfortable. Looking at the two people, one pushing Rafayel away, and the other trying to get closer, hands reaching in front of him, Thomas finally stares at the clock before awkwardly raising his voice, alerting the two about the fact that he was still there.
“I will go home now, finish off the party. We will talk about the next painting of yours in two days.”
Another groan came from Rafayel, but now it was because of how Thomas reminded him about the work he had to start working on again soon. With a pout, his face was no longer being pushed; he stared at the girl in the hope of getting a pat on the head, a caressing touch to show that he didn’t need to overthink or that she would be with him, accompanying him through his work.
“You shouldn’t give Thomas a hard time, Rafa.” Instead of calming words, all he got was a reminder for himself not to act up.
“Miss Bodyguard, that’s hurt.” To emphasize his words, he put both of his hands on top of his heart, trying to show her that she should have chosen her words wisely.
Instead of the reaction he wished, he noticed how the girl in front of him had a frown on her forehead. Her eyes never found his, even just once. It was as if she had something hidden from him. Being ignored like that, Rafayel couldn’t help but sit straight, staring right into her eyes to find an answer, trying his best to make her look at him too.
“I’m a bit tired, what about we wrap this all up and continue the party tomorrow?” Rafayel suddenly said. It’s not hard for him to notice how the girl kept looking around instead of him, trying her hardest to keep the secret. “I will clean everything, you can start to wash up.”
Rafayel said nothing else before he stood up, taking the plate in his hand and leaving the girl. There was no hesitation in Rafayel’s action, and the girl did not even fight him like always, it was the one thing that gave away to Rafayel that something must have been wrong. Holding back a sigh, not wanting to show how much he was disappointed, Rafayel started to work diligently, putting away all the things so he could rest as soon as possible.
Once he wore his pajamas and went to bed, he found his cutie had already fallen asleep, wrapping herself with the carefully picked blankets to make sure he’s not hot and not cold in the night. Seeing how peaceful she looks, Rafayel didn’t have the heart to wake her or tattle on her. Maybe she has a reason for her action at the moment.
“Goodnight, Cutie.” Rafayel’s voice was above a whisper, scared that if it was too loud, he would awaken her. As a closing, Rafayel left a kiss on top of her head, moving to her forehead immediately. “Hm …? It’s strange.”
For Rafayel, the slightest changes in the girl were easy to notice. Right now, her temperature is the one that he notices immediately. He himself couldn’t help but to frown, looking intently at the girl in silence, deciding if he was hallucinating because tired, or if it was a fact.
His cutie might be sick at the moment.
“I will watch over you tonight, let’s hope it’s not a fever.”
The night passed with serenity, not one of them was awakened in the middle of the night. Rafayel hugged the girl tightly, as if he was scared that she would disappear when he awoke. While the girl felt comfortable within his arms. It was cold, and it was warm at the same time, the right temperature to sleep soundlessly.
When Rafayel opened his eyes, the first thing that greeted him was a bead of sweat on the girl’s forehead. A groan and whimper kept on coming out from her lips, as if she was hurting somewhere. The panic inside Rafayel increased. In an instant, he knew the fever from the night before wasn’t a lie; it was a symptom that was slowly showing. If he had paid more attention to it, he would have been able to prevent it.
Guilt washed over Rafayel when he immediately stood up, looking around to make sure he knew what he needed. When someone has a fever, the temperature of the room is important; he need to know if she will be shivering, or if she will be sweating from the heat. With this current situation, Rafayel didn’t want to make things worse.
“Cutie, wait for me.” Rafayel’s whisper was answered with a low cry, alerting Rafayel more than he already was. “First of all, I will call Thomas to buy me some medicine, and then ….”
After mumbling to himself for a little longer, Rafayel started to work on what he needed. A warm water in bucket, along with a soft fabric, was on his bedside in no time. He put the cloth on the girl’s forehead before brushing her hair, wanting a response from her to make sure what he did wasn’t wrong.
“Rafa …?” she called out hoarsely. “My throat … feels hurt.”
“I know, Cutie, you have a fever, and I think it’s an inflammation. Probably from the food last night. If you’re not feeling well since last night, why not say anything to me?”
“You’re so happy last night,” the girl answered in a small voice, clearing her throat now and then. “Where are you going?”
“I’m going to cook some breakfast for the two of us. Will you wait for me? I won’t be too long.”
Rafayel knows that hoping for an answer was never an option, especially with him noticing the fever kept rising. With worry still inside him, Rafayel stood up and left a long kiss on her forehead. Just like what he had promised the girl, he went back quickly, bringing a bowl of warm soup inside the room. He was hesitant for a few moments, not knowing if he should wake her or not.
Before he could make up his mind, Thomas had come, entering the house like it was his, before pushing the bags in his hand towards Rafayel. After checking the content, making sure all the medicine he needed was there, a single thanks came from Rafayel’s mouth, and he walked away from his own manager, ignoring his protest.
“Cutie, the medicine is here. Let’s eat first before eating it, okay?” With bleary eyes, the girl started to look around, as if wanting to make sure once again where she was. “Come, we can cuddle all you want after drinking the medicine.”
“Am I troubling you? It was supposed to be your day off, Rafa.”
“Hm? Taking care of you never a trouble, Cutie. You have always protected me, you’re always so strong, and to be weak sometimes is okay too. Sometimes, you can rely on me too. I’m not as weak as I look, you know?” Rafayel’s tone was tinted with tease, didn’t want the air between them to become too thick.
“Are you boasting yourself now?”
"If you’re too dizzy, you can stay lying down for a moment.” Instead of answering the girl’s question, which in Rafayel’s opinion was mere small talk, he decided to focus on the girl’s condition. “Here, let me help you. You can rest your head on me,” Rafayel added when he saw the girl start to move around.
It only took minutes before the girl finally rested her head on Rafayel’s shoulder, pouting while enjoying the meal he prepared. Although she has been saying she can eat by herself, Rafayel’s resolution to baby her has been set. He would not let her lift a finger while she was sick. It was the only way he could repay for his mistake of neglecting her the night before.
“This medicine will be the best one,” Rafayel mumbled before leaving a short peck to the lips. “Rest well now, Cutie. I will be here when you need me, and I will be here when you’re awake. You can sleep as long as you want, you can rest yourself too as much as you need.”
“I’m sorry,” the girl suddenly said weakly. “You should get a rest too, right? I will be okay sleeping alone,” she continued, words mumbled with the medicine starting to kick off.
The words given by the girl earned a glare from Rafayel. He added a pout to show his dissatisfaction, not liking the way the girl suddenly said sorry or how she felt when she had nothing to be sorry about. This time, a sigh can be heard. Rafayel no longer holds himself back. How could she think so lowly? Especially when she was the one who needed help.
“Cutie, there’s nothing you need to be sorry about. As I told you, it’s only a natural thing to be sick and to need to be taken care of. Feeling hopeless and weak is also normal. I like taking care of you. However, it’s my fault for not noticing you’re not feeling well last night. Therefore, as a way to repay my negligence, I will stay by your side.” Rafayel left another kiss on the girl’s temple, tightening the hand around her hips. “Sleep tight, Cutie, get well soon. I’m always here by your side.”

Xavier’s eyes fall to the girl laughing and talking with the other members of the Hunters Association. After a long and successful mission, Jena decided to celebrate it with a small party, giving the best food and a place for all of them to relax. Xavier didn’t really want to join, expecting to be at home and be able to sleep. The sole reason he was there was because of the girl currently looking around, as if wanting to make sure it was the right time.
She wanted to get home now.
“Starlight, let’s go home,” Xavier whispered right beside her ear, wanting to make sure that no one heard his words.
“Are you tired already, Xavier?”
A low chuckle can be heard from the man before she felt him patting her head. “It’s not only I who is tired, I know that you are also the same, but you didn’t have the heart to say it, right?”
Being understood by Xavier without even needing to tell him anything somehow made her feel relaxed. With a small smile, a nod was given to Xavier as an answer, telling him that it was the right thing, she wanted to go home, but felt bad for excusing herself first while the others were still enjoying their night. A calming smile can be seen on Xavier’s lips to show he understood.
The man didn’t wait for another second before he stood straight, looking at Jena once before looking at other people. The soft expression that he gave especially for her was long gone; the only thing the others got was his usual sleepy face, a look that showed he was ready to go home. Just like the expression he made, the words everyone was expecting came.
“I’m going home now. Thank you.”
It was brief, too short for her liking and Jena’s. Before anyone can say a thing, Xavier has taken the girl’s hand before walking out of the place, ready to succumb to the bed. Their rest and sleep were waiting, and Xavier didn’t want to waste any much seconds spending time with people he wasn’t interested in.
The mission they were on took every energy from their body. Once their body hit the bed, sleep took over their whole mind. Xavier had his arms around the girl, not wanting to be away; he even whispered to her about wishing to be in the same dream with her, so they would still be together. However, after hours of sleeping soundlessly, Xavier felt the girl start to stir. The rising heat around him didn’t help him get a good night's sleep either.
“Starlight …?”
Instead of an answer or a slight stir to show she was bothered by Xavier’s calls, the girl only murmured something under her breath, a frown on her forehead can be seen, tinted with a sweat to accompany her discomfort. Just with one look, Xavier knew what had happened to the girl.
She might have fallen sick.
“Xavier, can you give me water …? I’m quite thirsty.”
It was an empty demand. Everyone who has ever seen Xavier would know how deeply he always sleeps. When others call out to him, none of the calls are heard by him. He would only stay silent and within his dreamland. Yet, this time, when he notices strange things happening to her, he immediately stands up and prepares a glass of water for her.
Xavier was hesitant for a moment, and he didn’t know if he should wake her up or just let her continue sleeping. But when he notices the restless stir coming from her, he decides to do what she wants. She wouldn’t ask for something out of nowhere, especially only a glass of water, in her sleep. It would be more reasonable if she asked Xavier for his hotpot or for another plushie.
Slowly but surely, Xavier shakes the girl awake. A sigh of relief can be seen when he sees her open her eyes, looking at Xavier confusedly. Words aren’t used by Xavier, he only shows the glass in his hand before helping her to sit straight. By now, although it was dark inside, Xavier could see that her lips had started to get chapped, which must have been because of the rising heat from her body.
Can it be that she was having a fever?
“Xavie, I think my throat feels itchy,” she finally said after drinking all the water given. The water was warm, and it was refreshing to her in a way. “My body feels a bit heavy too.”
A frown finally appeared on Xavier’s forehead, but he decided to bite down on any words of doubt that wanted to come out of his lips. “You must have been still tired. Just sleep some more, and if you didn’t feel okay in the morning, we can try to find the solution together.”
Being reassured by Xavier, added with how he plays with her hair, sleep soon accompanied her. Watching the girl asleep was never something strange for Xavier. No matter how sleepyhead he was, being able to watch her like now always brought ease to him. This time, instead of feeling relaxed, worry filled him, not knowing if the next day would be better.
Xavier’s wish was only to see the girl fine. However, his wish never came when he saw the state of the girl the next morning. He was so used to her waking him up, asking what breakfast they should eat together, and him wanting to stay in bed longer with her. This time, instead of him, she was the one who stayed in bed, even asking him to sleep more.
“So, you do have a fever,” Xavier mumbled, putting his palm to her forehead. His cold hand made the girl try her hardest to be touched by him all the time, not wanting to be separated just yet. “I do have the perfect medicine for you. I will only be away for a moment.”
“Xavie … my throat,” the girl cries, holding onto Xavier’s hand before he is able to walk away. The grip was loose, not too tight, and did not even have any attempt to stop him. It was just her being clingy to him after getting sick.
“Drinking warm water was told to ease the itchy throat. I have prepared one for you. If it’s still painful for you, please tell me, okay?”
Xavier didn’t get an answer, but a nod was given, showing that she understood what the man needed from her. Almost in an instant, the water was gone. Xavier put away the glass and gave the medicine in his hand to the girl, reading the label and what it was for. Again, he didn’t get an answer, only a low groan came out to show his words were too much for her.
It’s not hard for Xavier to realize what he has done. His voice, although not too loud, must be disturbing her, especially when he notices the current state of the girl. Her eyes were bleary, her lips chapped from getting a high fever, and her body movement was sluggish, indicating a lack of energy. She needed rest and medicine.
There are no words needed anymore from Xavier. His hand skillfully takes the medicine he knows will work, and is perfect for a situation like now, before giving it to the girl. Bloated from all the water she took, both from drinking and to wash down the medicine, a continuous groan came. Her head rested on Xavier’s shoulder, who sat across her.
“I feel really bad.”
“Because I take care of you?” Xavier responded, his voice was lower than usual, so as not to disturb her. A shake of her head came as an answer.
“Literally. My body felt heavy, like it wasn’t mine. My throat is itchy and it’s hot one time, but the next second I would be shivering. My joints ache in a strange way, my feet are cold all the time, and my head throbs, but at the same time, it’s not. I feel like I’m sick, but I’m also not.” After explaining what she felt, her eyes finally locked with Xavier’s. “I’m rambling and annoying you, right?”
A gentle smile appeared on Xavier’s lips, his hand patting her head before playing with her hair. “You have never annoyed me, Starlight. You can complain and tell me anything about your condition; it’s better for me to hear it firsthand from you instead of you acting like you’re not sick. With that, let me be the one to take care of you until you’re healthy again. Will you let me?”
“It’s your day off too, though?”
“Even on my day off, the perfect thing to do was to take care of you until you’re all fine again. Since I know that my food might make you get sicker, what kind of food should we order?”
“Anything is fine, Xavie.” After answering, another low cry can be heard, her hand gripping Xavier’s body tighter. “I hate this ….”
“I’ve got you, Starlight. I’ve got you.”
Xavier’s words, accompanied by how his hand stroked her back, slowly but surely made her feel better. Although the pain and aches are still there, somehow knowing that Xavier was with her, it feels better, as if she could face it all. Even the words he told, saying that everything would be okay and he would always be with her, made her believe this was only a short phase, and everything would be better in no time.
“Let me order some food first, and I will be back by your side. Okay?”
“You can order with me hugging you, right?”
Seeing how the girl tightened her grip, a low chuckle came. He was still stroking her back and hair, making the girl grow drowsy. With no reason to walk away or let go of the hug, Xavier decided to bring her to a better position, wanting to make sure that she would get a good sleep, especially with him around.
Both of them are lying down, Xavier’s left hand became a pillow for her head, while his right hand went to her hair, stroking from up to her spine. It’s nothing sensual; instead, it gives a soothing calm to the girl. Along with the dark room—Xavier made sure the light didn’t reach the room—the girl fell asleep easily through her fever.
The food Xavier had been thinking of was ordered. Although his hand became a pillow, he knew that he could still move his fingers and wrist, making it easy for him to pick the menu he wanted to buy. The only problem he faced now was the fact that the driver almost got into their apartment. He knows that the driver might leave the food outside, but he purposely ordered something warm, in the hope it would make the girl better.
“Starlight, the food is coming,” Xavier mumbled, giving kisses to her forehead. When no response comes, Xavier slowly slides out form the hug only to be pulled tighter. “The food is here. I didn’t want to leave you on an empty stomach.”
“Xavier is warm, let me warm myself more first,” said the girl with a hoarse voice. Noticing how the girl snuggling to his chest, Xavier didn’t have the heart to say no or neglect her wants.
Hand still busy stroking her head, Xavier finally said, “We can still warm the food later. If my Starlight wants to rest more, we will rest. You didn’t need to force yourself to do anything, or to do things you didn’t want to. Specifically, when my Starlight is not feeling well like this. It’s my duty to make sure you’re back to health in no time.”
With his words, Xavier leaves more kisses across her face, making sure that the girl knows and understands what he meant. His last kiss fell to her forehead, staying longer than the other places and checking her temperature while doing so. Once he was sure of himself, a look of pride could be seen.
“You will get better in no time, My Starlight.”
I didn't know if it will reach someone, but I'm okay with taking request for writing! I do have my comms, but I also accept request if it was up to my capability, so if anyone wanted to request, not only for x reader (even specific chara of yours) I might work on it~
I'm also open if someone wanted to do a trade with me ^^ either writing or art (I can only do writing)
So, don't hesitate to hit me up!
Hello! how are you? I wanted to request for separate headcannons of Zayne and Sylus. Since they're both very calm and controlled, always kind to MC, I wanted a fanfic to show a situation where they raise their voice and get angry for the first time in front of MC. Not angry at MC (no, never) but with someone disrespecting them or something like that? Like, is it in our hospital for a monthly check up like always and for some reason, an angry and uncontrolled patient or an intern, start fighting with MC and causing a commotion in the hospital or something? Thank you!!
❤️❤️
Hi hello! First of all I wanted to thank you for the request, and I'm sorry that this took longer than I thought since I was finishing my comms first
I'm not really great with "headcanons" or making short scene, therefore I decided to make a full fic about it, I hope you didn't mind! And I also add the other guys too in a separate story~
I hope you like it ^^ once again, thank you for the request~

It was a secret mission.
It was supposed to be a high-class mission where not everyone could get the information.
Yet, Xavier would always get his way to find out about the mission. He always tries his best to be her partner. No matter what, even if it was supposed to be a solo mission, Xavier feels better knowing that she was within his reach. He might not say a thing, didn’t want to be truthful to her, but his sole reason was to make sure she was fine and not hurt through the mission given to her.
The solo mission, and a secret one, was found out by Xavier. Once he gathered enough information about where he needed to go and what type of Wanderer awaited, he vanished almost as fast as he arrived to get the information he wanted. It didn’t take too long for him to arrive where she was, almost half-beaten by the Wanderers that kept increasing.
For one, it was a fortunate thing that he came, helping her to beat the remaining Wanderer and protect her from getting hurt more. But, the moment he knows everything has calmed down, he throws a glare at her, as if asking why he didn’t get an invitation, asking if he wanted to be a partner. It might be a solo mission, but Jenna would probably trust the mission to him, too, knowing how powerful he was.
“Let’s get you to the hospital first.” Were the only words he said after helping her stand up. Finding she was avoiding eye contact with him, Xavier over a smile before continuing, “Starlight, I’m not angry at you. No, never. It’s just I’m a bit disappointed.”
“It’s okay, I understand,” she replied, holding Xavier’s hand tighter to anchor herself. “It might be even better if you’re mad and angry at me.”
Seeing how insecure—remorseful—she is, Xavier tightened his grip, hoping that his gesture would make her feel better. He was there, and he is not mad at her. It was his usual subtle way to tell her, his partner, that everything was alright, and he was okay. His gesture finally got a response, the girl was looking up at him, watching his eyes show tenderness.
“As I told you already,” Xavier started once he got the attention he wanted, “that I’m not mad. Disappointed, yes. But we can work on it together. For now, let’s get you to the hospital to check you up. Do you want to go to Akso or to the nearest one here? In my judgment, it would be better for us to go somewhere near first.”
She knows, when she didn’t listen to Xavier, bad things somehow always happened. Trusting everything to him, she decided to nod and mumbled a short I prefer that way too, before letting Xavier drag her aching limb. She didn’t want to admit it, but she felt her consciousness come and go. It took everything inside of her to fight the dizziness, she didn’t want to add the trouble to Xavier, who had to drag her—bring her—to the hospital.
“I wanted to use my evol, but moving too fast would be bad for your wound.” Xavier’s explanation didn’t make everything better, but she also knows that it was his way to keep her grounded.
He already knew she was trying so hard to keep her consciousness.
Although there were a lot of doubts, feeling a bit scared, Xavier was finally able to bring her to the nearest hospital. Shouts and calls of urgency can be heard through her hazy state. And in no time, the treatment has started and she already able to rest. Xavier was taking care of the needed things, wanting her to have a short rest after all the fighting and the blood loss.
“You’re really dedicated to being able to drag her all the way here. It would be hard for her to stay awake, so whatever you’re doing, it’s really great,” one of the nurses said, receiving the paper Xavier had just finished signing off. “She should be okay now, and since you’re her partner, you can go and meet her. We didn’t sign her to a room since she already registered at Akso, and she also said she wanted to go there as soon as possible, let her doctor check her up thoroughly.”
Xavier said nothing and nodded his head silently. It took a few seconds for him to say thanks and ask where she was. The nurse asked him if he wanted her to tell the way, yet he only said he didn’t need that, knowing he would probably be hindered with their work. Smiling with the understanding given, the nurse finally told him where to go, seeing Xavier off to where she told him.
“I have met a lot of Hunters, and you’re not even the first one that goes to this hospital. But, I still couldn’t believe what you did!” It was silent for a moment before it continued with another shout. “You got the blood all over the hospital, do you know how hard it was for us to clean it?”
“Ah … I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to.”
“Of course, you didn’t know. Once you are all good and patched up, all of you Hunters always go to a higher and renowned hospital such as Akso. And then, all the credits for those who help the Hunter would go to them, not us. While we are here, helping the Hunters in need, using all of our power to save them, we are always looked over!”
“That was ….”
It was a sudden shout, too sudden for anyone to react properly. She’s not the only Hunter the hospital helps, she’s also not the only Hunter to taint the hospital with their blood. It was also not like she was the one to leave the hospital just because they could go to a bigger one. She knows her personal physician would want to examine her thoroughly, making she didn’t want to add the burden to the hospital where she only got patched.
“Ah, you, Hunter, wouldn’t even think about us or be concerned about us, right? What an annoying bunch. Always promoting yourselves as the good people who protect the world, when in fact you just abusing any power you guys have.”
“I think that’s enough of how you talk to her,” Xavier cut off before any more hurtful words could be heard.
“Who are …?!” The doctor, who has been rambling to her, stares at the person coming, only to find the Hunter uniform, along with some blood still attached. “Ah, another Hunter. You too, are the same, just as annoying as her! If you only want to get a patch, do not go here and ….”
The shout only gets louder, earning a few glances from the other patients treated there. What kind of commotion that the doctor have to get involved in? Xavier could be careless with what others said about him, or the way they talk to him—such as shouting and throwing curse words—but what concerned him was the fact that this doctor had been talking in the same way to her, even throwing hate about the job she was proud of.
Not to her, nor the job she has been working hard for.
“Don’t you know what enough was? I thought that you were a doctor, but I guess a doctor can also be so mannerless. And what? You’re throwing your hatred and this nonsense at her? if she’s not working here, maybe this hospital would blow up by the Wanderer, are you happier that way?”
“That … that was ….” Xavier’s words made the doctor slightly tremble.
To others, Xavier must have sounded only mad, almost shouting, throwing hurtful words, and just trying to defend her. But for her who was always with Xavier, listening to his voice and his words, there was a slight change to his tone. The way he usually talks and the way he speaks it were all different. He always speaks softly, he always uses a calm voice, not ever raising his voice even a bit.
His calm nature was long gone.
“Did you have anything else to say?” Xavier asked, this time his voice was lower, nothing like his usual soft tone, yet not raised.
“Just because you’re a Hunter, and most probably in a higher rank than her, you can stomp on me, on us doctors! Have you ever seen yourself? Killing Wanderer and then acting like a hero, after killing something.”
Xavier takes a look at her, trying to see if there was an uncomfortable look given. When he sees one, he knows that it was his job to finish it all. There was no other reason for him to hold back when he made his dearest feel small with what she did. She only wanted to protect the world. And Xavier knows how much she thinks highly of it.
“Stop your prattling mouth before I make you.” Xavier’s voice once again rose, shocking everyone, including her, who had never heard him using that tone.
Sensing that it might get worse, she decided to stand up, holding back a grunt, and put her hand to the wound, standing beside Xavier and intertwining their fingers. A whisper came from her, telling him to stop and not to raise his voice anymore. Her eyes darted everywhere, trying to make sure that the attention wasn’t too much.
She’s not ready for Jenna to send a letter telling her she’s suspended for making a ruckus at a hospital.
“Let’s go home, Xavier,” she whispered once again. “Your energy isn’t worth spending with this kind of doctor, and looking at it, it feels like he is only a resident.”
A tighter hold can be felt by Xavier, and he decided to see her in the eyes, finding she was half begging him. Seeing how she was trying so hard to get his attention, Xavier’s eyes softened. Once he found hers, everything inside of him melted. She was right, there’s no need for him to make this complicated, he needs to bring her back to Akso Hospital soon.
“Let’s go back,” Xavier finally said, his voice calm, and a slight smile could be seen. The moment he started to walk away, with them still intertwining their fingers, Xavier finally looked back, looking at the doctor, who trembled. “And I warn you, if you ever dare to make fun of other Hunters, I will come back to finish you myself.”

Everyone knows how calm and collected Zayne is, especially when he is at the hospital, working and going through the operation he needed to. He never raised his voice, not to the doctors who did something wrong, not to the nurses, and especially to his favorite patient slash person, the Hunter, who has been his childhood friend. Although there might be times he raised his voice in operation when a mess occurred, he never really got angry.
Even when his dearest always tries to bring that kind of emotion to him, wanting to know how he will react and how he will act around, he always knows it first, and that ended up with him being the one to tease her. In the end, the one who got angry was her instead of him. He likes to see the way she raised her voice, getting worked up by her own pranks, and getting irritated at him which makes her look cute.
“Your check-up is done, nothing is concerning enough, except that you must have been losing sleep lately.”
“Yeah, I guess because a certain someone wasn’t there to lull me to sleep.” Zayne knew she was talking about him. With countless surgeries and patients he needed to tend, going back home was hard.
“I admit that I’m at fault for that, but aside from that, you push yourself again.”
“Okay, Doctor Zayne is in working full mode now.”
It was another teasing remark given to him that made him shut his lips. More words are coming from him, and she will probably tease him to death. A sigh to show his defeat can be heard before he rubs his temple, feeling dizzy just by thinking and imagining how the conversation will go if he continues. The smiles on her face made him feel better, and he started to act serious again.
“Wait for me downstairs, I will end my shift in a while and we can have dinner together.”
“Is this how you pay me for missing all the nights?” Noticing that the teasing had started back, Zayne also decided to do the same.
“I just thought that the dessert shop I haven’t been able to go to now has a new menu. Sharing is always caring, right? I wanted to share the dessert with you.”
The conversation ended fast when Zayne got a call from Greyson. Knowing that there wasn’t anything else he needed to check, he bid his goodbye, adding that she told him he needed to check the patient fast. Once Zayne was nowhere to be seen, she went out of his check-up room. Although it was night, the hospital was still as busy as it could get, filling the hospital spaces.
Before she could get to the place where she usually waited for Zayne, another doctor whom she knew very well called out to her. A small smile appeared on her lips, greeting the doctor quite excitedly. After all, before knowing Zayne, the doctor in front of her was the one to take care of her and always check her up, giving her the opportunity to push her limits so she could enter the Hunter Association exam.
“Are you here for a general check-up with your current physician, or did you have an injury while doing a Hunter job?”
“I think it’s kind of like the two,” she answered with a light tone. Knowing her previous doctor, she also knows that joking with them is a normal thing. Responding to her words, a chuckle can be heard before a pat was given to her shoulder.
This time, with a serious look, the doctor said, “I hope that there’s nothing wrong with your body now. Your current physician was Dr. Zayne, right? You’re in good hands. I trust you with him, and you better listen to him too.”
A short conversation that starts with just mere greetings turns into a story time. The doctor kept making sure that he didn’t have any patients he needed to tend at the moment, and he only handled emergencies after getting older. At the same time, she also knows that Zayne wouldn’t be around just an hour after their departure, giving her a moment to have a conversation with her previous attending doctor.
“I guess we have to part here. I’m taking your time, right?”
“It’s okay, I was waiting for someone too.”
The smile she gives to the doctor eases his worries before he bids his goodbye, meeting a resident along the way and going into a serious mood. Seeing that she didn’t have anything else to do and didn’t want to make Zayne wait for her, she went straight to the place where she usually waited for Zayne. Part of her was scared to find the man already there.
What kind of response would Zayne give if she appears a bit late?
However, before she could have gone too far, a resident who was running pushed her. Normally, when others bumped into her, she wouldn’t find any problem, nor would she get affected by it. Yet, with the most unexpected times, added to the amount of force given, she couldn’t help but push down to the floor, feeling a bit lost, and look around her.
The resident’s things from his hand were thrown to the floor, an indication that the collision had just now. Even though questions still filled her mind, she started to gather the things, not wanting to get the resident into trouble. A little pain can also be felt around her shoulder, but she decided to turn a blind eye to it.
What’s important is the resident didn’t get into trouble because of her.
“Here’s your things. Next time, be careful.”
It should be just a normal reminder, especially to the resident who must be tired of working endlessly. Part of her also imagines about how the resident would get scolded for being reckless and even bumping into a patient. Trying to ease the fear inside them, she offered a kind smile, hoping it would tell the latter that she was not angry at the accident. She was okay with it.
When she thought a kind response was what she would get after that, the resident was evidently looking at her up and down as if wanting to make sure that she was not hurt. Once they confirmed something, they harshly took the things from her hand, visibly glaring and giving a low, dissatisfied sound to her, a sound that succeeded in making her back down a few steps back.
“If you’re not a patient, why are you wandering around here?! It would be bad if the person who bumped into you was any other doctor!”
“I was …?” There were no words coming from her lips, trying to understand what was currently happening to her. Did she get scolded when the resident was in the wrong?
“See? You’re not even aware that you just made a mistake! Imagine if the person you just bumped into was a real doctor, they would probably get mad at you and … ah! Whatever, you’re in the way. I was in a rush, and you just appeared so suddenly that it disturbed my work.”
“I’m … sorry?” The apology came too abruptly, that she didn’t even know the reason for her apology. Is it because she didn’t look around? Or is it because she accidentally bumped into them? Shouldn’t the resident be the one to look around to make sure they didn’t mess up? “But, I think you should have watched where you’re going, too.”
Couldn’t accept the fact that she was being blamed, words to show her dissatisfaction can be heard. At first, the resident was ready to walk away, not talking or making the issue bigger. However, the words spoken just now made them stop and look back, trying to see if what they had heard just now was real. They didn’t like how suddenly it became their fault. The glare was prominent, making her feel uncomfortable once again.
“Did you just say that I was the one making a fault here?”
The tone given shows hatred, making the situation more intense than it should have been. “I’m sorry?”
This time, not trying to cover her feelings, she purposely let out the tone she has been holding back, hoping it could portray just how angry she is right now. Whoever this resident is, they must have seen anyone except a patient as someone annoying. Something common to be seen in some of the residents who could get to Akso Hospital.
“Ah … is it because you’re a Hunter that you think you’re almighty and important? I guess it’s quite dumb and ….”
The words were never finished, and in addition, she felt as if someone was standing behind her. Before she could turn back to see who the person was, a hand finally rested on her back, as if to show intimacy. At the same time, the person who came leaning down, speaking to her in a gentle voice, and showing concern.
“You’re not hurt, are you?”
It was Zayne.
For a few moments, the resident could only watch as the renowned Doctor Zayne was putting his full attention to the girl standing beside him, making sure she was not injured or had any bruises uncalled for. Once he was sure, and he listened to the girl's plea that she was okay, his gaze finally fell to the resident in front of him, showing no amusement.
“She’s a patient here. Just because someone didn’t wear a hospital gown doesn’t mean that they’re not a patient. Is this how you would treat those who aren’t your patient?”
“N-no … that’s not ….” Zayne’s voice wasn’t shouting, yet it was firm, showing his dominance. “I’m sorry, Doctor.”
“You should have said sorry to her, not me.” There was nothing that came after Zayne’s words, leaving the girl to look up and see Zayne had furrowed eyebrows, not liking how the resident still denied he was at fault. “Did you hear me or not? That you should have apologized to her and not me.”
With the raised voice coming from the-collected-and-calm-Doctor-Zayne, the resident finally stammered and said his apology, running away before Zayne could say anything else, and before the girl could say it was okay. Once the resident was nowhere to be seen, she finally stared at Zayne, facing her body to him.
“You raised your voice, I guess it was the first. And it was for me, should I be happy or concerned?”
“You shouldn’t have let others push you like that … and I didn’t mean literally.” Zayne put his hand onto the girl’s shoulder, feeling around to make sure that she didn’t dislocate it by accident.
“They’re in a hurry, I can understand that.”
“Yes. But still, it was their fault. Running into a patient, blaming the patient—or not. Even after that, they still didn’t say sorry because they realized they’re at fault.” The moment Zayne assured there was nothing concerning, he finally held the girl’s hand. “I was on my way down to meet you when I saw them bump into you, I thought it was nice of you to help them pick up their things. however, from afar, I can show how irritated they are … that’s when I decided to step in. I hope I didn’t interfere with you.”
“A low chuckle can be heard from her before she swings the hands held by Zayne, finds it amusing how Zayne easily tells the story. “No, no. I was glad. If you didn’t come, I might punch them in the face, and I might get a warning for doing so.”
“I could imagine,” was Zayne’s only response, holding her hand tighter when they reached the parking lot.
“And anyway, Zayne.” Before Zayne could open the car’s door, his attention was brought to the girl who was waiting. “Your voice does sound sexy when you raise it like that. I wonder how it would sound if you got angrier than that.”

“Cutie, what do you mean you wanted me to shout at you? Why do you want me to speak harshly to you?”
Hearing Rafayel’s tantrum, a low chuckle can be heard from the girl who lay on his sofa, watching as the man who was busy perfecting his brush stroke stops his action the moment she spoke up her request. Unknown where the thoughts came from, Rafayel could only guess what his Cutie had been going on about to make her has the courage to voice it out.
“It’s just … when you speak Lemurian, I thought it sounded both sexy and attractive. I just wonder if the same response would be there when I heard you raising your voice. All this time, you always speak to me nicely, or just … well, pampering me.”
“I do raise my voice now and then.” Rafayel has now forgotten about his work and put his attention fully on the girl who also sits up straight.
A nod was given before she said, “Yes, and it was towards Thomas. Either because you couldn’t finish your painting at the right time, or when you’re dissatisfied with his work, or how he arranged your exhibition. But that’s not raising voice, no, I don’t think it was.”
Tons of questions filled Rafayel’s mind. He wanted to understand the reason behind her request, the real reason why she thinks his shouting voice was attractive. Searching through her expression, Rafayel decided to let a low sigh before leaving his work. All of his creativity has left his mind, replaced with a way to make his Cutie feel better.
“No matter how much you wanted it, Cutie, I wouldn’t ever raise my voice to you. if that moment ever happened, or if I ever scold you in any way, you’re free to slap me.” Rafayel’s body plopped onto her lap, seeking warmth and comfort. Once he felt her hands start to play with his hair, he finally looked up and stared with a puppy eye. “But, please, don’t hit me too hard or use your Hunter power, Miss Bodyguard.”
The conversation was quick to drop, and both Rafayel and she didn’t have the heart to torture the other more. From the start, it was supposed to be an easy conversation, nothing demanding, and not some request needed to be fulfilled. It’s easy to be forgotten to the point Rafayel could finish his last painting for his current exhibition.
The night came with Rafayel, who made her follow him to the exhibition, dress chosen by him. almost all night, Rafayel didn’t let her wander off from his sight. She also never really escape from his grasp, keeping him around her waist and said to look around in case there were some bad people tries to kill him when they’re not looking.
It was a lie. Rafayel did not need a bodyguard to be around him all the time, he even find it disturbing at first. He just wanted people to see—and know—how close he is with a woman, which mean he’s not available with others who are pursuing him. This is the only way for him to say that he was taken without having to make an announcement to the public about his relationship.
“Rafayel, there are some people who need to talk with you.” Thomas’ words came at the wrong time. While enjoying his food, after tirelessly talking with people he barely knew, it was cut off fast.
Looking at the way Thomas stares at her, she already knew that this conversation was private, meaning she didn’t and she shouldn’t join in. A light push was given towards Rafayel’s back, telling him to follow Thomas' words. It was added with how she took Rafayel’s plate, as a way to push him away. The smile on her face made Rafayel feel guilty more than ever.
“You better come back fast before I finish all your food, Fishie,” she teased, trying to lighten Rafayel’s mood.
With no way to say no, Rafayel finally gets away, grumbling at Thomas and pouting all the way to meet the important person. Being left alone with no one to talk to, the food that was supposed to be Rafayel’s was gone before she decided to look around, wanting to see once again, without an explanation coming from the artist itself.
At first, it went well and smoothly, nothing she needed to be wary of. Even without Rafayel to tell her about the painting or the story behind it, she enjoys everything and even learn slowly how each strokes bring her closer to Rafayel and his hard work. Although she didn’t know much about painting or brush strokes, seeing it all somehow made her say, it was all Rafayel. With her eyes focused on the painting, she saw nothing else around her.
Her mind was occupied when she felt someone was approaching her and speaking at the same time. It’s not the voice of someone she knows, not Rafayel or Thomas, which made her not bother to look at them. It might be someone just speaking to themselves while appreciating Rafayel’s work, which always happens.
“You’re really worth more than the painting here, did you know?” The last words were the reason her attention was finally averted.
“Yes?”
“Your beauty. It’s something that no painting here can capture. All the women pictured here didn’t stand the same as you.”
All the paintings of women by Rafayel actually describe her.
“I’m sorry, I already have someone with me.”
It was the same usual words as a cover-up, however, it’s not an entire lie. She has gone with Rafayel from the start, and even when he was supposed to entertain the guests that came to his exhibition, he could reassure Thomas that it could be done with her coming along. Whenever he was explaining the painting, his eyes would always find hers, only hers.
“Come on, it won’t work with me. I know that you didn’t. Besides, clothes like this are used to attract men. If not, why would you wear something so appealing?”
She was silent for a few seconds, trying to understand the situation. A frown finally appeared before she said, “I told you that I already have someone with me. And that person who gives these clothes to me personally. Dresses like this aren’t always used to attract … people like you.”
The situation escalated quickly. With the answer she gave, the man seems to be more frustrated than before. Words of insult came from his lips, somehow like he was trying to attract the other people who came to watch the exhibition. It’s not long before the fight has made a scene in the calm ambiance of the exhibition, Rafayel picks.
Although people have started gathering around the two, trying to understand the situation, none of them tries to separate them. While the man who comes her way points his fingers and still talks gibberish, the girl was calm and collected, trying her best not to throw punches at the man to show where he belongs.
“Would you mind?” A new voice breaks out through the fight. Upon knowing it was Rafayel, a sigh finally came from the girl, feeling glad that she didn’t need to take matters into her hands.
“Who are you …?” It’s not hard for anyone to see that it was Rafayel, the reason people were gathering there. “Ah … Rafayel.”
“What do you think you’re doing right now?” Slightly, Rafayel’s voice was raised, showing anger. “Disturbing my exhibition, and then trying to flirt with my guest … no, you’re even saying bad words about her. Do you want to be banned from the next exhibition?”
“N-no … that’s … it was her fault!” Rafayel, who already stood in front of her, trying to protect her and didn’t let him see even a strand of her hair, saw how the man was once again pointing at her and gave a glare. “She tells lies and makes me look like a bad person.”
More gibberish came once again, making Rafayel take a deep breath. “What a disgrace! A person who can't even appreciate art and make a ruckus. Thomas, ban this person the next time he ever tries to come.”
“W-wait, that’s not … then you should have banned her too! Why am I the only one to be …!”
“Enough!”
Rafayel’s shout made everyone jump, seeing another side of Rafayel. With a small pull to his elbow, the girl decided to interfere, didn’t want to make a bad impression on Rafayel, the artist. Understanding her concern, Rafayel took a deep breath before taking a small glance at her, hoping to find comfort from her.
“Thomas, take care of this.”
Not putting any more attention, Rafayel finally asked her politely—as if they were stranger—and brought her to another place. It didn’t take long before Rafayel finally found a secluded place, putting his head to her shoulder and seeking comfort.
“I’m sorry for shouting in front of you, Cutie. Now I feel really, really bad ….”
“Why would you? You’re so cool back there,” she mumbled while playing with Rafayel’s hair. “But more than that … I wanted to thank you for protecting me like that and taking things your way.”
“Well, can you believe what he said about you?! He even insulted the dress I personally picked for you!”
Holding back a laugh, she finally hugged Rafayel, burying her face to his chest. “I know, I know. He really shouldn’t have done something like that.”
“Cutie, the next time someone insults you, don’t hesitate to punch them! I will be the one responsible for it.”

The offer came too suddenly. Although it was a normal thing for Sylus to bring his Kitten along while doing a business—bidding and entering fancy places—this invitation held something more important; a party for rich people and where they show off their belongings. For Sylus, instead of showing off his fortune, he decided to bring her along.
A satisfied smile can be seen on his face while he watches her trying on the dress he specially tailored with the best fabric he could find. Before she could say anything, Sylus had already given a lot of compliments, telling her how beautiful she is and how dazzling she is, to the point that no one at the party would outshine her.
“Don’t start with your words. You know that’s not true.”
“Is my Kitten being insecure tonight? Guess I haven’t poured my heart and love enough.” With his words, Sylus leaves a trail of kisses on her face, making sure that she knows just how much he loves her. “Are you ready to go, Kitten?”
“Yeah, well, I didn’t want to make you late for the party.”
A soft scoff came from Sylus before he said, “What a funny way of thinking. That’s a no. You can take however much time needed, and you’re still not late to the party. They started too fast, and it’s not you who are late.”
Sylus has always had his ways to speak, charming her, and didn’t give her a chance to feel insecure about her looks or worry about anything else. With a smile on her face, she finally took Sylus' hands, walking side by side towards the party venue. With Sylus by her side, she couldn’t help but feel immune to anything,
No one would dare to do anything when she’s with Sylus.
Stares were all she got when walking side by side with Sylus, additionally, Sylus' hands wrapped around her shoulder, putting a protective defense to show she’s taken. Couldn’t help but be overwhelmed with the constant stares people gave her, she finally looked at Sylus, hoping for him to understand what she tried to imply. Instead of understanding her needs, Sylus only gives a light squeeze to her shoulder, his way of giving a reassuring comfort.
“If I were to leave you for a moment, you would be fine by yourself, right?” Sylus’ sudden question made her widen her eyes at him.
Why would he say something like that now?
There were a lot of things she wanted to say to Sylus, but there were none that came out of her lips. Every time she thought she was ready to say it, she always chickened out last minute, leaving Sylus in the dark. She just didn’t think Sylus had to know about her feelings at the moment. They were supposed to enjoy the night, especially since they rarely met.
“I won’t be too long, it will be over before you even know it. Or, are you against me being away from you, Kitten?” The tease that came from Sylus only made her frown deeper. Although he tries his best to make everything seem better, it only raises her anxiety. “Have something to tell me, Kitten?”
This time, worry etched into Sylus’ tone, trying his hardest to read into her and find out what worries her. When she still said nothing, Sylus decided to ruffle a bit of her hair, trying to get a reaction. If he makes a mess of her look, she probably would start yelling at him or scolding him for ruining her makeup.
“I just … didn’t like how I know no one here. That’s why.” It wasn’t a full lie, it was also not one hundred percent true. However, under Sylus' intense gaze, she couldn’t help but say anything. “You better be back in fifteen, more than that, you’re dead to me!”
A low chuckle can be heard from Sylus, understanding the worry inside of her. When she didn’t respond to his attempt before, he knew that he shouldn’t leave her for too long. With a short knowing look, Sylus pointed at someone inside the party with his head, telling her that the person was the one he would talk with.
"He has been eyeing me and you. I will make him know his place and stop staring at you. But what can I say? You’re too beautiful for people not to stare.”
“Just go now and be back fast.” Had enough of his teasing, she finally pushed Sylus’ body away from her.
Knowing where Sylus went, not too far, somehow reassured her, telling her that there’s nothing she needs to be worried about. Minutes pass by just like that, with her accompanied by the drink Sylus brings before, and her watching over her man has a serious talk, a smirk here and there while he talks, and sometimes, looking back at her and locking eyes.
Her short moment was cut off when some girls were walking to her side, surrounded her, and blocked her view of Sylus. The smile on their face made her feel a bit nauseous, screaming that these people didn’t have any good intentions toward her. Before she could tell the people in front of her to walk away or move, they had already spoken.
“You know, I think it’s enough already for looking at that man.”
“We know that everyone wanted to be with him, almost a lot of people have already tried to sleep with him. We tried too.”
“But, did you know that no one has ever been able to touch him? Also, when people try to say they have eyes on him, the other would fight you.”
“Don’t worry, Hon, we can help you get close to you. Maybe, he will sleep with you.”
“Huh?” The anger from before was long gone when she heard what the girls were trying to tell her. What do they mean they were trying to sleep with him? “No … that’s not … I came with him.”
“Oh, please, girl. I know what you feel, we are also trying our best to be able to be his plus one.”
More and more nonsense came from their lips, not even letting her speak or state her opinion. It wasn’t until their topic suddenly changed to something else, talking about how beautiful she is and how dazzling she was, that she could have just gotten any man to be with her, especially at a party like now.
Even now, she tries her best to tell that she has already come with someone. If they didn’t want to believe that she came with Sylus, then it’s better for her to at least make them realize she’s not alone. However, her mind couldn’t help but think about what they just said before. That she could have any man to sleep with her.
“I’m sorry, but I’m uncomfortable talking about this.” When the topic of her having to get someone’s number, a stranger, she decided to cut it off. “I have told you guys that I came with someone. Well, someone as dazzling as me must have a man with me, right? That’s why, stop pushing me with a stranger.”
“What? Did you just hear what she said? We were trying to be nice to you! How dare you talk like that to me!’
“You’re new here, right? I never saw you at to party like this, so you should have been grateful that someone was trying to make you less lonely. Did you realize that you look like a loner at this big party?”
“We will forgive you, but on one condition.”
“No … I didn’t need you guys to forgive me. I said what I said,” she replied with a frown, deeper than she ever made before. How to make them shut up at this point?
Instead of listening to her, the girls decided to point their fingers at the man who used to talk with Sylus—he was nowhere to be seen now—and said she should get closer to him. if she is able to get his number, they will let her go and not taint her name anywhere, or anyone. She was ready to say no and fight with them, and yet someone had already bet her to it.
“I will give her my number. That would be enough, right?” Upon knowing it was Sylus, relief filled her that she almost ran to his arms. As if knowing what she wanted, Sylus put his hand to her hips, holding her close to him. “Let me get to know you more.”
“Sy …?”
The girls couldn’t believe what they had just witnessed, trying to think of the most reasonable Sylus was by her side. Stammering, they were trying to explain the situation to Sylus, and the man somehow listened to their rambling till the end, hearing how they just wanted her, his Kitten, to get to know some men and sleep with them.
Sylus, who usually has control of everything, stares longer at their leader, trying to make sure what he heard just now wasn’t wrong. Still with his face showing how much he didn’t believe what they said, Sylus’ grip on her hips got stronger. There was evidence from the way he held her. Did they just try to sell her out?
“You are telling her to sleep with them?” Sylus started softly, however, his eyes were glaring. “You just told me that she's only worth being with a man like that, right?”
“That’s not what I meant, Sy.”
Hearing the nickname came from the same person who said his Kitten didn’t fit him, the anger came before he could hold it back. “Don’t you dare to call me with names! I didn’t know you, nor have I ever met with you. You should be glad that I talk to you now, just because of her.”
Sensing the dominance Sylus gave, the girls started to talk to each other and tried to run away. At the same time, she was trying to calm Sylus. Although it was nice to see him mad and shouting to protect her, she didn’t want him to cause a scene or scare the people around. It should be a party where he enjoys himself.
“Sy, come on,” whispering to Sylus, she finally tries to drag him away.
“Don’t you ever dare to come near her anymore.” Sylus’ voice slowly became lower, yet still showing his anger. “Kitten, then didn’t do anything to you, right?”
Before long, just after Sylus was away from the girls—and they had time to run away—his full attention went to her, not thinking about anything else but her. Once feeling Sylus’ attention only on her, a smile finally broke on her face, feeling grateful and happy to be with him, and to be someone important to him.
“You lost your cool back there.”
“I’m sorry, Kitten. Did I scare you? Or did it startle you?”
With a shake of her head, she finally hugged Sylus tight, her way to say she’s not scared of him. “Of course, not. I know you do that to protect me. Although I did get a bit shocked, it was all good. Since I know you’re doing this for me.”

Being the school crush has always been Caleb’s title from the start. And it’s not rare for her to be the one to deliver food or a snack to Caleb, their way to show love. Caleb has always turned down all the confessions people made to him. However, he always takes the snack and tells his Pip-squeak to eat it. In his defense, it’s the right thing since she brings all of it to him.
While busy munching on the snack given by Caleb’s fans, she stares at him with a deep glare. Lately, busy with his basketball practice, Caleb has made her go home alone. At first, he wanted her to be with him, but knowing how tiresome waiting for him was, he preferred for her to be at home, where Grandma would get food ready for her already.
Caleb did nothing wrong, at least she knows and understands that. He worries for her, thinking that there might be a shady guy trying to get close to her on the way back home. But what concerned her was the fact that her bag was always filled with Caleb’s snacks. She didn’t dare to leave it in his bag on the bench while he was busy practicing. Therefore, as a result, she was forced to bring all the snacks home, feeling the weight in her bag.
“Are you jealous again that they are putting more attention on me than you, even when you are in the same class? Or are you jealous that I got snacks from them? If the case were the second, you shouldn’t feel like that. I would never eat it, and it all goes to your stomach. Shouldn’t you be happy instead that you get free snacks, Pip-squeak?”
“You’re really dense, Caleb,” she mumbled before getting back on the food. “If you really didn’t want to accept them, why are you still taking their snacks?”
“I told them not to already, but they’re still persistent, saying something like it’s okay if you didn’t accept my love, Caleb, at least let me give you a snack as a way to appreciate or admire you from afar.”
On his last words, Caleb made his voice a little higher than usual, trying to imitate the girls from her class. A laugh can be heard after listening to Caleb’s words and imitating, which didn’t sound like it at all. After a good laugh, one of the snacks was finally finished, making her throw the trash to Caleb, earning a glance from him again.
“What? What is your problem, Pip-squeak?”
“My bag is heavy with your snack, you know?”
Caleb was silent for a few moments, looking at how she put her legs on his lap like it was a usual thing. They did this almost every day after all. “A snack that in the end would end up in your stomach, and you still complain about it?”
Instead of an answer, all Caleb got was a glare coming from her, making him sigh a bit and give a light massage to her calf. A satisfied hum was heard, an answer that she was happy Caleb understood what she wanted, especially at a moment like this. After enjoying his massage for a few minutes, she finally started to speak.
“You usually bring my bag, so it’s only right for you to do the same to me every day.”
“Pip-squeak … you’re so spoiled, do you know that?” Again, she was against saying anything, only puffing her chest to show how proud she was.
It was Caleb’s fault for making her a spoiled child, after all.
“Then, when I can’t go home with you, don’t take any of the snacks. It was an order from me,” Caleb said, and offered a kind smile to her, looking at how she saluted him as an answer.
The chance of not getting back together with Caleb came faster than she thought. Although he had already promised he would always be with her and bring her bag, the sudden call from the teacher made her go alone. She has taken the snacks for Caleb before, on her break, and she could swear her bag weighed more than usual, remembering the classes for that day.
“Caleb, you dummy!” she grumbled, pulling on her bags while she walked near the basketball court. The voice of Caleb’s friends can be heard, and some of them were calling to her, knowing their relationship.
“Bags filled with letters and snacks for him again?” One of the basketball members, that she didn’t bother to remember the name, finally talked when he stood in front of her. “That’s quite heavy, are you really sure going to go home alone? You can wait here for him.
The offer wasn’t entirely bad, making her agree to it almost instantly. Just thinking about bringing her bags home already wears her down. Watching the other kids playing isn’t all bad, she even found a special charm to it, thinking about how Caleb must have looked cool and amazing while playing. She rarely watches Caleb play or practice.
“Aren’t you tired of being a porter? Oh, I didn’t mean it bad way, but … it’s just that you're always the one to bring his snack.” Busy with her mind, she didn’t realize that she was currently mobbed by the other kids too. “Did he tell you to bring him the snack?”
“No, no, no. That’s not like that. After all, the snacks usually went to me, so I just brought them in advance, telling him what food he got, and all.”
“He never touches any of the food given to be eaten at that moment, right? Remember that one time? Caleb was given a bento that they had made since early morning, and he declined. He even said he had already eaten!”
The conversation around her went well just by themselves, leaving her to listen to the story of how amazing Caleb is, and how popular he was at the school. Even after knowing it all, she couldn’t help but barf, knowing that Caleb would brag himself to her once this type of conversation came. Feeling entertained enough with the story, she finally took something out of her bag.
A cookie, probably handmade, can be seen. Without hesitation, she asked the others if they wanted a taste of the cookie. It’s not the first time for her to get from this person, and even when she told Caleb didn’t like the taste—he’s not a picky eater, but he still has his preference—she still insists on giving it. The words that said it was okay if Caleb didn’t eat it were enough, as long as Caleb knew she made it herself.
“You are giving this to us? Thank you so much! But are you sure?”
A nod was given before she said, “Caleb didn’t like this. But the girl keeps on pestering him to the point she sends it through me.”
After the short explanation, the boys started to enjoy the cookie. Some of them show an indication of not liking it, and some others enjoy it, as if it were them who got the love. Watching different expressions coming from them made her hold back a giggle, she didn’t want to be seen as someone strange.
Another offer was made by her, asking if anyone wanted to finish the cookie. However, the box was quickly taken from her hands, making everyone look at the person that just suddenly come. It’s not hard, at least for her, to know who the person is. It was no other than the cookie-maker herself, looking furious and seems if she almost burst.
A question didn’t reach her throat when she—and the boys—heard a shout coming, scolding and getting angrier the more she spoke. All they could do was watch, trying their best to understand the situation they were in. Their amusement stops when she suddenly shrieks and throws the box of cookies to the ground, making a mess around.
“I shouldn’t have trusted you! I told you to give it to Caleb, but here you were flirting with the others and … and … you give this to them!”
“Flirting? No, no, you got the wrong idea. I have a girlfriend, and I wouldn’t even dare to touch her that way.” All of the basketball team knows how protective Caleb could be, and touching her is the same as asking for death.
“Is Caleb not enough for you?! Or are you trying to act like a princess of the group?!”
“What …? I told you multiple times that Caleb won’t like this cookie, but you still insist….”
Another shriek came, stopping her from explaining. The fight, which was uncalled for, suddenly got intense. Shouting insults came from the two girls, leaving the boys to panic and try to stop them. Although they were trying their best, two girls fighting wasn’t a good combination, and they were too scared to touch them.
“You’re acting spoiled! As if Caleb won’t ever leave you one day! He will realize that you’re just a mistake and will leave you!”
“Take that back! Caleb isn’t that kind of person.”
“Y-you two, come on. It’s just a cookie ….”
“Yeah, it's supposed to be a cookie for Caleb, not for any of you! And that’s because of this one person! She couldn’t even send it to Caleb! A simple task, and you can’t even finish it properly. Did you even learn the basic hacks of life? You’re so spoiled that you will make Caleb sick of you.”
“Yeah, she was spoiled. My Pip-squeak is spoiled,” Caleb suddenly announced, putting his elbow to her head, stopping her from moving or throwing punches. “That’s because I was the one who made it. I didn’t want her to be a porter, she’s someone important to me, so she should have had the luxury, right? If she wanted a cookie, I could make it. If she wants her bag to be lifted, I will do it.”
Once Caleb showed up, the boys slowly backed away, trying to give him a chance to show that she’s not someone anyone should mess with. Every one of them already sees this side of Caleb, telling them that none of them could get to her or try to hit on her. She is his, she is his Pip-squeak.
“And if she wanted to fight? I will be the one step up and fight for her.” The smile on Caleb’s face made his words even more dangerous. No one could guess what he was thinking at the moment.
“Caleb … but she … she made my cookie … she gives my cookie.”
“Then, shouldn’t you give it to me instead of telling her? In case you didn’t know, she ate almost all of the snacks people gave me. Do they know? Yeah, but do they mind? Looking at this bag, I don’t think so.” Caleb lifted her bag using his evol, showing how big it was with the snack stuffed in. “If you didn’t dare to give it to me yourself, don’t act like you are everything.”
Looking at the Cooki-Maker girl for a moment, Caleb finally put his arm around his Pip-squeak’s shoulder, telling her to go home now or Grandma would worry about them not getting back yet. Seeing the two walk away, something inside of Cookie-Maker only boiled more, making her shout and insult them in front of Caleb and the others.
“You are so spoiled that your brother was the one to clean up your mess! You’re such a child that you can’t even do anything by yourself, and to make it worse, you always try to get boys’ attention …!”
“If you have a problem, tell me instead of shouting at her!” Caleb, who couldn’t believe what he heard, suddenly walked back towards her, raising his voice and glaring. “I was with her since we were kids, always by her side and complimenting her, always the one to protect her because it was my will … and here you are insulting her.”
Seeing how angry Caleb was now, the boys finally ran to his side, pushing him away to stop him from making the fight worse. Sensing that it might get worse, she also pulled Caleb’s hand, looking at him with begging eyes. It works almost instantly. Caleb’s focus was only on her and no one else, not caring about others, and just the feel of her hands wrapped around his.
“Let’s just go home, Caleb, okay? You didn’t need to waste your time on her.”
Caleb was being dragged away, his shoulder with both of their bags, and her hand intertwining with his. “Pips … you shouldn’t have been too good at someone like that.”
“I know, and I can handle it myself. Let me throw punches at her tomorrow and show just how I might be the best Hunter in the future!”
“No need for that. I didn’t want to get you suspended from school,” Caleb said with a chuckle, brushing her hair and staring with adoration. “Pip-squeak, the next time the others wanted to leave snacks, said that you’re unavailable. If they still insist, call me immediately. I will protect you from people who try to belittle you.”

A promise was a promise for Caleb. It didn’t matter how busy he was, he was in Linkon and postponed any work he could just to answer the call from her. As a result, to pay for his promise, Caleb was there, at her house, to cook breakfast. When he was already preparing the food, the person he was cooking was finally awake, moving at her own pace in the kitchen.
Sizzling sound and the smell of the food he was cooking filled the entire house. Yet, the sudden sound coming from a shattered glass earns Caleb’s attention. It’s not usual for her to be clumsy, and at the same time, he was so used to her acting clumsy. Thinking it was just another day of being clumsy, a light chuckle can be heard from Caleb.
“What is it? Another day of a clumsy day, Pip-squeak?” Turning off the stove, Caleb turned his back to see the girl didn’t move from her spot. From where he was standing, Caleb could see how both of her hands trembled, as if something bad just happened. “Pip-squeak, hey? Do you hear me?”
“I’m … I’m sorry,” she suddenly mumbled. Without thinking much, she squatted down, hand ready to take each of the shards.
Before she could get close, nor her fingers could touch it, Caleb used his evol, making her float a little higher than the counter. Caleb’s tone was firm the next he was talking, telling her how dangerous it was for her to carelessly touch the glass. Even if she wanted to clean it up, she could have used a small broom and not touch it directly.
A string of sorry can be heard from her while Caleb cleans everything, still holding his evol to make sure she won’t hurt herself. Once he was sure there were no more shards around, even the smallest one, Caleb finally let her down, bringing her in his arms towards the sofa and letting her sit comfortably. He was squatting down for a moment, noticing how she always avoided his gaze with her slightly trembled hands.
Knowing that she wouldn’t stare at him, he decided to sit beside her, lifting her so she would sit on his lap, straddling him comfortably. However, in that position, her stares still wander around, anyone or anywhere except Caleb. A stifled sigh can be heard, it’s not because he was disappointed by her, but it was his own lack of attention towards her.
“You didn’t want to tell me anything, right?” Caleb asked, sounding soft and gentle. “It’s okay, Pip-squeak. I wouldn’t be mad at you, I’m not angry at you too. Instead … I was ashamed of myself. How long did I know that you started to develop something like this? You shouldn’t have to say sorry, it’s not your fault. You also didn’t need to feel guilty. I do mess up a lot too, remember?”
Caleb’s tone slowly becomes lower and lower attracting her attention. Although there were still doubts, she finally stared into his eyes. It was dark, the usual hue as he had been lately. Yet, his eyes filled with regret and pain, as if everything that happened to her was his fault. There was no rage, anger, or anything to make her feel scared.
As if he was telling her subtly she was not wrong, she didn’t need to be scared, and he was not going to shout at her for doing something.
“I should have accompanied you, helping you whenever you need. I should have watched you grow ….”
“Stop ….” A whisper came out from her before she put both of her hands toward Caleb’s lips, not allowing him to say anything else. “Why are you saying that? I was the one who broke the glass, I should have been more responsible.”
Still with his mouth covered, Caleb was trying to say something. “Pip-squeak, you almost killed me,” was the first thing Caleb said when she took off her hands. “And no, being an adult didn’t mean you have to be responsible all the time. You can, and you are allowed to, make mistakes.”
“But you didn’t,” she mumbled, once again looking away from Caleb’s intense gaze. A low chuckle could be heard before she felt his hand creeps to her waist, holding her tightly but not hurting. “You didn’t make a mistake, you never do so.”
“I did, you just didn’t see it. How come … how do I let you see me making a mistake? Besides, you always see most of my worst moments too, no? Breaking a glass is normal. We can buy it again. What’s important is that you’re not hurt.”
By the end of his words, Caleb’s right hand took her fingers in his, pulling it gently towards his lips. He hesitated for a few seconds, wondering if he should kiss it or not. After a moment of thinking, he decided to turn his hand, kissing his own hand instead. It was his way to show his love.
“Pip-squeak, you’re allowed to make mistakes, being clumsy, and being a child with me. But, please, make sure to be safe. I didn’t want to see you hurt. You didn’t need to be scared someone would get mad at you, shout at you, or blame you. It’s never your fault. I won’t get mad at you.” Ending his speech, Caleb left another kiss on the back of his hand, cradling her fingers in his for a moment to give warmth to her.
She’s too important for him to let her get hurt while he is there.
