"I think you should be serious about what you do because this is it. This is the only life you've got." - Philip Seymour Hoffman
Lesson 136
Being the sober one at your office Christmas party has way more benefits than being the drunk one.
There are no words for the world's loss today, but there are Nelson Mandela's own words that we should keep with us through our lives.Â
Our Top Three Nelson Mandela Quotes:Â
"No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite."
âThere is no passion to be found playing smallâin settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.â
"We recall our terrible past so that we can deal with it, to forgive where forgiveness is necessary, without forgetting; to ensure that never again will such inhumanity tear us apart; and to move ourselves to eradicate a legacy that lurks dangerously as a threat to our democracy."
"Donât talk to yourself in such a way that if you did so to a friend, it would end your friendship. If you had a friend dealing with the same things, you wouldnât berate that person, say, âYouâre not working hard enough,â âYou suck,â or âYouâre not as good as [whomever].â Youâd offer your friend encouragement, youâd try to point out all the things your friend did right, and how much progress your friend had made.
You should do no less for yourself.
Be very careful how you talk to yourself. Because you are listening.â
Lesson 135
If you don't take risks you'll never figure out what, or who, you really care about.
Donât let a great thing pass you by.
Thank You!
We noticed that our post about bullying got over 5,000 shares, thanks so much to anyone who helped spread that great message across the internet! We'd also like to welcome any new followers from it!
âFor my first show at SNL, I wrote a Bill Clinton sketch, and during our read-through, it wasnât getting any laughs. This weight of embarrassment came over me, and I felt like I was sweating from my spine out. But I realized, âOkay, that happened, and I did not die.â Youâve got to experience failure to understand that you can survive it.â - Tina Fey (Seventeen Magazine Interview)
"The best way to predict your future is to create it." - Alan Kay
You deserve to take up space.

âAt LeakyCon, a young lady asked me how I dealt with bullying. I wasnât able to give her a very good answer, which troubles me. Well, there were lots of shouts of âIt gets betterâ and âStay strongâ and âWe love youâ. But when I put myself back in time to when I was being bullied, none of those things wouldâve helped me. Yes, absolutely it does get better. But when you are being physically and psychologically tortured, it is difficult to remove yourself from the pressingness of the moment at hand. Hereâs how I dealt with bullying: I cried, I hated myself, I hated my life. I didnât deal with it, I survived it, but I never dealt with it. So here are two tips from someone with lots of experience. 1: Itâs not about you, it has nothing to do with you, itâs about the assholes doing it to you. 2: Your job is not to deal with it, your job is to survive it, which you CAN do because it WILL end. And then yes, it will get better.â - Hank Green
Lesson 134
Hiding your feelings can be exhausting.
"I don't like it if i'm not creatively free-flowing- it worries me and I wonder, is this the end? Is the well empty now? I worry about the self-confidence of someone who, at times, has to get himself up or hype himself. Â I wonder why I think I have to do it. Â Sometimes, I'm not able to take in the positive communication that's directed at me because I'm not sure I deserve it. Â The difference now is, I let all these symptoms of lack of self-confidence just be. Â I don't let them define me. Â In other words, I'm more comfortable with my lack of self-confidence, so in a way, it's more self-confidence." - Jack Nicholson
Lesson 133
Live a life worth singing about.
"Disasters happen all at once. Successes happen slowly and gradually and they are interrupted by disasters, but they continue despite them." - Hank Green (x)
