It is extremely rare for these folks to acknowledge and discuss the consequences of forcing births. Just once I would like a discussion with someone who at least *tries* to think about situation in its entirety and not just Step One. 

It’s like if NASA sent astronauts to the moon and once they got there…

 “Okay Houston, we made it. Sooooo… how are we getting back?”

“Look, President Kennedy said we needed to get men on the moon. Mission accomplished.”

“Can you maybe send up food and supplies then?”

“Can’t you just be grateful you’re on the moon? And a thank you for getting you there would be nice.”

I seriously don’t understand how folks can care so much for a fetus and the second it pops out they stop giving a shit. I guess they know it is beyond the point of no return and suddenly that precious fetus is then “someone else’s problem.”

I just feel “As long as it’s not dead” is not the compassionate moral stance they seem to think it is.

i find it v cute when rpgs offer me, someone whose sole strategy is “attacking enemies,” status changing effects. “this lowers your enemy’s speed” you know what else would lower their speed? being dead, from my fists

The thing about Good Omens is that it plays with earth-spanning Christian mythologies and transcendental beings and doesn’t let you forget it—the Horsemen most of all, but the plagues as well. But despite that, the humor and the heart both come from humanity.

What converts Aziraphale and Crowley to humanity’s cause is the low-level sin and ordinary kindnesses; they’re fond of tea and typos and feeding the ducks; Adam’s powers make Lower Tadfield almost aggressively normal; when he saves the world it is for books and his friends and a pit of gravel and people who don’t deserve to be destroyed because they’re people, and their world is beautiful and ordinary and vibrant and just—

The thing that apocalypse stories (and superhero movies, but that’s neither here nor there) never seem to get is that there has to be something worth saving. It’s Biblical—when Abraham is bargaining to stop the destruction of Sodom, God agrees, “For the sake of ten righteous men, I will not destroy it.“

Ten men.

There has to be something worth saving.

Good Omens was and is the only apocalypse narrative I’ve ever read that understands—humanity is that something. Angels and demons and Horsemen stand in awe, and bow before that simple fact. We are worth saving.
