"character deserved better" (but they were never going to get it that's the stuff great tragedies are made of) vs "character deserved better" (but the writers really blew it)
It could be either one of them

RIP, Anthony Head. :(
Pictured here in Ted Lasso, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Merlin and Doctor Who
RIP Anthony Head, thank you so much for everything you gave to the world through your art and beautiful soul. You will be remembered. 🤍
1954-2026
You will be missed. ❤️
RIP Anthony Stewart Head (1954 - 2026)
I’m sad to hear of the passing of Anthony Stewart Head. You have no idea how often I think of his line reading of “You were cc’d on the email” in the Merlin Children in Need sketch.
RIP to a Legend ❤️
Dear Anthony Head, thank you for being our wry librarian, mentor and tv dad.
My dad introduced me to Buffy in the early days of lockdown, and by winter 2020, it was our routine to watch an episode every evening. Giles reminded me a lot of dad, a cynic Brit with a passion for books and a wicked sense of humour. My dad and I have never had a very vocal relationship, but I think for him, BTVS did some of the talking for him.
Like in season 2, when Giles tells Buffy
"If it's guilt you're looking for, Buffy, I'm not your man. All you will get from me is, is my support... and my respect."
Dad just happened to pause it then and asked if I wanted a drink since he was going to make tea, that was his way of saying: I'm proud of you.
Giles, you're a legend, thanks for saving the world a bunch. Today, Sunnydale is a little less sunny without you.
Genuinely very upset by Anthony Head’s death… he was an icon my childhood, an impeccable villain, and a brilliant actor
what the fuck man
The 72-year-old British actor also had roles in shows including Merlin and Little Britain.
British actor Anthony Head, best known for his roles in TV shows including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Ted Lasso, Merlin and Little Britain, has died at the age of 72. Head found international fame as Rupert Giles in hit supernatural teen show Buffy in the late 1990s. He went on to have a recurring role in sketch show Little Britain, play king Uther Pendragon in the BBC's Merlin, and appear as former football club owner Rupert Mannion in Ted Lasso. "He passed away peacefully of complications due to pneumonia, surrounded by his family," his daughters Emily and Daisy said. His daughters' statement said "it is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our extraordinary father". They added: "It has been, and forever will be, an honour and a privilege to be his daughters, and to have witnessed firsthand the impact both he and his work have had on so many." They also said they knew "how dearly he will be missed by friends, colleagues and fans of the show he was in", adding that he "loved his job very much" and "always considered himself incredibly lucky". His family acknowledged that "his legacy will live on" and said they considered themselves "lucky" to have watched him doing what he loved throughout his career. Head's other credits included The Iron Lady, Persuasion, The Inbetweeners and Manchild.
RIP anthony head, you will be missed.
rip king, truly nobody was doing it for weird sci-fi and fantasy obsessed nerds like you 💔
Wordsworth Collector's Editions of classic novels
i have such a major reading hangover from finishing Far From the Madding Crowd lol. like how am i supposed to go about my days without a greek chorus of pastoral townfolk gossiping about my every move?? how am i supposed to read another book that does not include gabriel oak suffering every other page?
my brain simply cannot let Far From the Madding Crowd go. like what do you mean that it starts out with one of the loveliest proposals ever written. every reader just falls in love with this so damn fast:
And at home by the fire, whenever you look up there I shall be—and whenever I look up, there will be you.
and bathsheba says no!! and she's entirely right to say no!!! it's this beautiful fragile heartfelt completely correct moment of rationality. it sets the entire tone for the relationship, because then this proposal slowly becomes everything she's ever actually wanted over the next few years. what gabriel offers is exactly what she comes to want more than anything in the world, and her worst moments in the novel come from believing she's lost it forever (she literally starts the whole thing with boldwood because she's mad at gabriel for seemingly falling out of love with her and wants to punish him).
it's so good it truly makes me insane lol.
I just finished Far From the Madding Crowd in small part because I read that Suzanne Collins said in an interview Katniss’s last name comes from Bathsheba Everdene.
I just finished the book and I think she may have referenced a bit more than just a name …. More thoughts to come.
"Ask me, Gabriel." - March 2026
The only reason I haven't drawn this couple before is that I couldn't decide between this before-kiss moment and the actual kiss. This movie adaptation of Far From The Madding Crowd (2015) is one of my favourite films ever, I've watched it too many times to count. Although I've made the colours a little colder, this scene is bathed in golden sunlight. (I might end up drawing the actual kiss, too).
I'm sorry but drama in classic literature can't be topped like what do you mean your solider husband didn't drown so your horny neighbor shoots him and then you marry the sheep herder that's been in love with you for years
