Illustration for Plansponsor, on the concept of an insurmountable gap.
Drawing for the book review section of Oprah Magazine, accompanying a review of Kawai Strong Washburn’s novel “Sharks in the Time of Saviors”. I hope I get to illustrate more fiction in the coming years!
Sweet illustration I drew for The Washington Post, from a mother reflecting on discovering the area close to her home during the COVID lockdowns.
I created this short animation for NPR’s Invisibilia podcast! Thanks to the team for giving me a ton of creative freedom with this one. I love learning about empathy, and it was a joy to explore that topic here.
Fun series done for Hugo back in 2019! This was a pretty open ended series that accompanied an interview talking about how women will lead tech into the future.
Illustration for NBC news, about teenage children who wish to get vaccinated against their parents wishes.
piece done for the print-only sketchbook section of The New York Times, about a group of cows that managed to swim to Cape Hatteras in North Carolina after extensive flooding.
CW pregnancy
Illustration for New York Times parenting, for an article explaining pre-eclampsia, or dangerously high blood pressure during pregnancy.
A favorite client of mine that is sadly no more, this illustration was done for Longreads on the theory that Jack the Ripper was actually a woman. Got to channel a lot of Bloodborne for this one, I hope I get to do more goth drawings like this.
Older illustration for The New York Times, about tensions between airbnb landlords and renters.
I had the pleasure of creating the illustrations and some animated assets for this beautiful interview with author and poet Ocean Vuong, to commemorate the release of his book “On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous”. Many thanks to the team at Vice News Tonight for bringing me on for such a fun project.
Illustration for Planadviser, on how to avoid obstacles. Many thanks again to SooJin for always letting me experiment!
Illustration for Medium, on the ethics of “haunted” office furniture that adjusts to maximize worker productivity.
Personally, I think you should steal as much time as possible from your job :)
Illustration for Plansponsor, about how to keep an eye on your cyber security. Many thanks to my art director SooJin for letting me get weird with this one!
At the end of 2019, I was commissioned for one of my dream jobs, creating a piece for the NYC subway! I drew inspiration from all of the wonderful museums here in New York. My idea was to create a game for bored commuters, trying to find the subway references hidden in the gallery paintings.
These are coming down now, but ran through all of 2020. I'm a bit sad that my piece ran in a year with lower ridership, but I'm so thankful for all of the positive feedback I've received. I will have prints available via my website soon!
Illustration for The Atlantic, on the enduring mystery of whales and human’s long and fraught relationship with them. I’ve always had recurring dreams with whales, so this was a very dear assignment to get. Many thanks to my AD Arsh!
