if we lived in a world where u had to do the career u were first interested in as a child what would u be doing, id be a firefighter
âur overthinking thisâ bro I have anxiety. I have no other type of thinking available
i donât think people should have to work in their 20s i think they should just be government designated Adventure Years where youâre paid to wander the country and go on journeys of self discovery and have gay sex and try different foods and sing badly in cars and create enemies and find fleeting father figures and sometimes commit crimes

Yâall talk weird on here. Sometimes I see a post and i agree but yâall talk weird so Iâm like fuckYou.
That and âadultingâ . Youâre 32 .
Because when we meet someone who has such a visceral reaction to harmless slang we know to stay away from them because they are going to be one of those annoyingly immature people who still hasnât figured out that growing up and abandoning child like simplicity and joy is an artificial concept created to shame the masses into conformity.
no one is going to respect you anyway, you know, so you might as well sound stupid on purpose and have a little fun with it.Â
I carry a bb8 backpack and I dress like Iâm from the 70âs. No one has ever taken me seriously in my life.
also a lot of them are references to memes that existed before a lot of these kids were born. We donât stop having fun and joking around just because you think weâre too old for that. If your only experience with older people is with your unfun parents and uncles who only work and drink and make bigoted jokes then like, that sucks babe but thats also not my problem.
Also weâre tired and words is hard when youâre tired
You have to make your fun where you can.
âCritics who treat âadultâ as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.â
â C.S. Lewis
Not to mention?? The lexicon and grammatical particulars of online communication are freaking fascinating. There are different dialects and referential imagery that is so steeped in layers of meme evolution that you can literally see a picture of Obamaâs eyes kind of half-hooded and know exactly what youâre supposed to feel and itâs so freaking cool because these forms of communication, they arenât just âzomg random,â they actually do follow rules and have structural foundations that weâve all somehow internalized, and we use them as a way of relating to one another in a text-based medium that could be, SHOULD be, incredibly stifling but itâs not, because we made it our own. We created new ways of speaking, of communicating with one another clearly even when we canât see faces or read tone or body language, so that I can say to someone âI did a cool thing!!â online and be talking about the exact same thing Iâm also referencing in that corporate email where I say âthe objective was successfully completedâ but those do not sound the same at all because they arenât the same at all. One conveys my excitement, my pride, my happiness at achieving whatever goal I achieved, while the other is a polite, professional-sounding report to a superior, and the fact that they were both conveying the same idea in 5 words but in such different ways is freaking awesome, so frankly fuck you if you think Iâm somehow âchildishâ for enjoying that.Â
Online communication grew organically with my generation and itâs still growing today and it is a freaking playground, so hell yes Iâm gonna use the swings and the slide and the monkey bars because itâs fun, and if you want to stand by the fence and scowl at me thatâs all right, but itâs your problem, not mine.Â
Imagine being a literal child and getting mad at adults younger than your parents just cuz they use their generational slang. Do you also get mad at your 40 y/o mom if she says something is rad? Would you start foaming at the mouth if an old hippy grandpa started using the word âgroovyâ in front of you? Grow up. I hope kids ten years from now throw hissy fits about the word âcringeâ. Maybe by then youâll understand that language changes quickly and getting mad at adults for using older words is literally the most pointless thing ever.
Wait⊠Do other gen z kids really do this? Mock millennials for⊠what, being the kind of adults I want to be, for gripping onto simple happiness with both hands?
Itâll happen to you too, kids! Lol.
But seriously. Youâll reach the second half of your 20âs and youâll be referencing memes and TV shows and things you grew up and made in to your language and the generation beneath you will look at you and go âoh my god theyâre so embarrassing!â
And if youâre not doing that youâll realise youâve become one of those adults who is, or is on their way to being, a wine mom/beer dad, complaining about people having fun in their free time.
Listen to your elders. Life is too short to worry about being down with the kids.
Rebageling to point out a Thing.
When people in their 30s donât start using the next generationâs slang, weâre called out of touch old folks.
When we do, weâre treated like the âHow do you do, fellow kids?â meme or accused of being p*dos.
When I say, âPlease keep the syllabus. It has a lot of helpful information that youâll miss out on if you pretend to he Jared, age 19,â Iâm not trying to be a Cool Kid or prey on my students (ew!). Iâm trying to get my students engaged and help them remember important information by relating it to something silly that they already know.
When I talk about radicals in a pair of sunglasses and a backwards baseball cap, oozing 90s slang to a degree I never do ordinarily, Iâm creating an image that helps people remember how radicals work. (And yes, âNo Squares Allowedâ is part of the act. Of course it is. Why would it not be?)
And yet, it seems that in the eyes of teenagers, we just canât win.
also, just to circle back slightly, âadultingâ is such an extremely useful word.
you use âadultingâ to mean âperforming societally approved maturityâ or âfunctioning as expected of an independent adult per the expectations of the cultureâ, but you donât have to say that shit and your meaning comes across entirely clearly. especially in context.
if i make a post here on tumblr dot com bemoaning âutterly failing at adulting today. laundry has piled up and i think there might be some breadcrumbs left in the kitchen, but bed, and video games, and tiredâ, you understand exactly what i mean. if i make a rueful post about how âadulted successfully by taking out the trash and making the dreaded Doctor Appointment Phone Call, this calls for a celebration reeseâs cupâ, you know exactly what i mean.
you know so exactly what i mean when i use the term (or variant of)Â âadultingâ in those contexts that it would in fact be difficult and cumbersome to try and convey my meaning in (suck it)Â âadultierâ language.
this sort of sneering bullshit feels rancidly akin to that old âprofanity is the language of the unintelligentâ snobbery. even a cousin to the same âwhy do you talk in slang, just use real wordsâ bullshit teens hear from parents and grandparents, or distantly related to the âwhy does x demographic talk like that, it sounds so uneducated/itâs so embarrassing that that person uses âbrokenâ english, they sound so dumb.â
language is for communicating. if you understood the meaning, the phrasing is mere window dressing, and itâs appallingly poor behavior to insult someone elseâs choice of drapes in their own home.

The sign language reads as follows:
[Hey, I want to cover something important.
As some of yaâll know, I am deeply engrained with the Deaf culture because I want to be an interpreter and have Deaf family.
The world is slowly becoming more accessible, and I am proud of our progress. HoweverâŠ
I want to discuss this school.
This is the Memphis Oral School for the Deaf.
The school will be opening soon, but they do not let their students sign, they discourage it.
And now they are requiring masks, which means lipreading is out of the window.
This article points out that even without masks, the teachers would often cover their mouths when they spoke so that they couldnât lipread.
Their reasoning? To ensure that the students were âlistening with their EARSâ.
Read that againâŠ
You are taking away their (Deaf childrenâs) language, they are not being given Dynamic Equivalence. They have nothing.
When are yâall gonna learn that Deaf kids donât need to be fixed?
Please spread for awareness.]

Watch: John Cena continues, âSo, letâs try this one more time. Close your eyes.âÂ
King
Worth noting that he protested loudly against the WWE doing a show in Saudi Arabia after the assassination of Jamal Khashoggi, and the company retaliated by making sure he hasnât been on TV or PPV since. Not fired, of course, so they can keep selling merchandise with his face on it (and keep him from joining the competition), just out of the public eye so he and his protests gets forgotten by the fans.
Picture that: an ubiquitous celeb and household name like John Cena basically got black bagged and vanished for speaking up for human rights. Thatâs the power of capitalism, kids
Utrecht, Netherlands (by Ralph Rozema)
raccoons make no sense because they will leave your birdseed and garbage and garden and compost pile alone but they WILL open a barrel and pull out an empty 5 gallon gas canister and unscrew the lid and leave it in your yard and also untie the dog tether from your porch beam for no reason
one time I watched a raccoon pull up plastic tent stakes at a campground and just walk away, content with causing mischief
another time at camp I woke up to find a raccoon had grabbed the yarn that connected the string telephones my neighbor and I had strung up between our cabin windows and was just yanking on it⊠I grabbed one end and ended up in a tug-of-war over the string phone while this beefy raccoon pulled and pulled, hand over hand, making direct eye contact with me
and sometimes theyâd sneak into cabins and justâŠ. touch people while they slept
why!!! who said you could act like this!!!
god gave them hands but not shame
