Not to beat a long dead horse but it’s so funny to me how the “Annabeth is abusive to Percy” takes pop up every now and again because people can’t contextualize actions within a story and read the tone of the work…. Like “I personally think it is a bad choice to write a character who physically judo-flips her boyfriend as if it’s a cute and funny thing” is actually what you were trying to say I think. Because IN the story it could literally not be more obvious that Percy is 1. Fine 2. Cheerful and totally unbothered by this 3. Thinks it’s actually funny. And like not in an “I’m traumatized so I have to pretend I’m not a victim” kind of way lol in like a “this is genuinely fine and funny” kind of way. You’re actually allowed to think that this was a bad writing choice and this has bad implications for real life without trying to convince people that the correct reading of this relationship is abusive and talking about these fictional teenagers as though their fake relationship is even capable of fitting real diagnostic criteria. Like you have to contextualize and consider tone.

Percy and Hermes' friendship in the books (+ his dynamic with George and Martha) is by far one of my favorite things to come out of SoM, and it's definitely on my top 5 favorite character dynamics from the saga 😔😔😔 More people should join me in this obsession
