Normally, people tend to get frustrated, even jokingly, if they miss out on something. This comment was on a song from 1974 and it made me smile quite much. Simply appreciative. Like a dessert after dinner.

Thank you @dei2dei for the tag! 💜✨ Last song: the one I currently have in my head currently is I'm Gonna Claw Out Your Eyes from the game Hades II which makes me sound like a serial killer to be humming and I blame my partner for playing the game and introducing that kickass song to my brain. 

Currently watching: Witch Hat Atelier and having a lot of trouble not giving in to the temptation of scribbling spells all over my entire fucking house and writing about Qifrey's slutty little turtleneck and his English dub voice that gives me shivers (here's the trailer if you're curious it's really great you should check it out, particularly if you like Frieren!)

Current obsession: I'm revamping parts of my Obsidian vault to better store character info & development sheets into one single massive monster template that is easier to link across fics. It has so far taken around five days of work. It also looks insanely good if I do say so myself. The template alone is 5k words long, but here's the top of it:

Currently reading: I'm technically reading La Casa de los Espíritus by Isabel Allende but I haven't touched it for a few weeks; I'm also reading and rereading a blast from the past by indefinitelyforever (satosugu fic) because it's so good I just want it on an IV

Currently working on: several smaller projects (a few one shots, a couple drabbles I wrote for an event and I intend to post soon, a short Haikyuu podfic I have half-edited), two multichapters (a tododeku mutual pining fic I'm drafting and a suosaku (wind breaker) 5+1 fic I'm rewriting), and one BNHA poly 1A AU that seems to be quickly gaining Monster™ status. I have no idea how I'm ever going to finish anything with so many tabs open but ain't that life?

The above is a video shared by smrchildsadness on Twitter, showing a person participating in a pride parade exchanging a pride flag with a person standing on his (am using his pronoun based on the TikToks/Tweets of what happened) doorway who had a Portuguese flag. There are sounds of cheers and crying and the two people hug each other as they exchange the flags. The man at the doorway then waved kisses to the crowd within the pride parade.

The Tweet says: "NO YOU DONT UNDERSTAND HE WAS WAVING THE PORTUGUESE FLAG BECAUSE HE DIDN'T HAVE A PRIDE FLAG AND THEY TRADED FLAGS AND HE'S SO EMOTIONAL TO GET HIS OWN PRIDE FLAG I'M EMOTIONALLY RUINED"

For context, apparently they were worried that maybe he's a nationalist because he was waving the Portuguese flag and some nationalists opposing the pride march were waving that flag. But upon interacting with him, it turns out he didn't have have a pride flag and he wanted to wave *a* flag in support of the pride march. So they had an exchange and now he has his own pride flag 😭🥹.

That video of Alex Hirsch reading S&P notes for Gravity Falls conveys a few things to me:

1) the U.S. entertainment industry (especially animation) is run by older conservative types who make up offensive terms and get really mad about them.

2) the people who run Disney would be the first to fall in line with a fascist regime.

3) most of the media we consume is tailor-made and watered-down to appeal to the tastes of older, deeply religious conservative audiences.

4) conservatism, not the left, is and always has been the biggest voice of censorship in American culture.

J. Michael Straczynski, creator of Babylon 5, was before that a producer and writer for a number of cartoons in the late ‘80s/early ‘90s (The Real Ghostbusters and the original She-Ra, most notably). After a few years of dealing with the censors and their obsession with finding Satanism (or at least looking for Satanism to further political agendas) he wrote an article about the whole corrupt and bullshit system.

And published it in Penthouse, to force those same censors to buy a skin mag. The editor there asked, why Penthouse?

Every time something like this comes up, I remember two stories about making media. The first is about movies, and comes from Quentin “Feet Man” Tarantino.

When he was making Pulp Fiction, he was worried that the MPAA would object to the high level of violence in the film, so he shot a bunch of extra-gory stuff that he didn’t actually want in the film, and added it in before submitting it to the MPAA. Predictibly, they asked him to cut most of it (without even commenting on some of the things that had him worried, like the bits of Marvin’s skull that lodge in Samuel L. Jackson’s hairpiece). The resultant cuts were actually more permissive than he’d expected, so he cut a little more and submitted it, and it got passed with an R.

The second story is about that artist on Morrowind whose name escapes me (I’m not a big ES fan tbh) who figured out that if he made two creature designs, one weird and what he wanted, and one even weirder, he could get Todd Howard to agree to just about anything by showing him the whopper first, then going back and “working” for another few hours on a second, “toned-down” version, and it worked every time.

The reason I bring these up is that the thing that drives censors isn’t some extant physical rubrick of what is and isn’t acceptable, it’s the idea that they can have absolute power over someone else’s creative work. It’s about the social dominance of the interaction.

There is nothing so innocent, so clean, that a censor will not find some fault with it. Because they must find something wrong with it to justify their existence, and because it makes them feel powerful.

This is true of all censorship.
