when there are huge and structural power-differentials between groups, we can't skip the step of providing people with their own spaces (or letting them have their own spaces) and expect abuse of that power to go away.

if we can understand the need for minority only spaces (whether they are groups for people of marginalized on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, orientation, etc), then we can understand the need for spaces reserved for people of marginalized genders.

the issue isn't people wanting their own spaces. the issue is the policing of those spaces and the individuals who want to be in them and the treating of boundaries as impermeable barriers rather than ever-moving and ever-navigated.

And as a note: it's not just cis women that want women's spaces.
