But the global peak for HIV was actually in 2003. You know, well and truely after, and likely a direct result of the governments of the world deciding it was a fags-only divine punishment from god for decades prior.

And technically, the AIDS crisis never really ended.

Yes, that's the western/north America timeline, for sure. I'm 58 and was in my late teens and early adulthood during the time. But again, that's very western timeline. Global was much later, as I recall.

Plus plus, "be gay = die of aids" was so thoroughly ingrained into media at that point that even I [29 years old] raised in a very homophobic community, thought that gay sex-- maybe even just *gay thoughts* writ large would somehow just earn you AIDs as a kid. Like it was virtually an inevitability.

I talked about it before, how children are so good at psychological warfare-- the kids I went to school with managed to figure out I was [then, obviously, pre-trans] a lesbian almost ten years on the dot before I did.

At about 7 or 8 I just really really really wanted to be this particular girl's "bff" because she just so happened to be the funniest, smartest, prettiest, coolest person I had met in my whole life at the time, I felt. And my heart would flutter when she talked to me and I just wanted to be with her and hold her hand at every waking moment-- which of course there's nothing gay about that the gays were evil and I was not evil I was a good catholic "girl" of course.

And the first time I found out about the AIDs crisis because I remember crying all night one time a girl who used to bully me told the girl I "didn't" have a crush on I was going to give her AIDs. "AIDs" meaning the gay disease the gays die of as punishment for being gay.

So for anon to say to Sheev, "you're 30 there's no way you were affected by the AIDs crisis what so ever," as if the survivors aren't still well within living memory and the whole world just forgot about it is fucking nuts.

I've noticed a lot of Tumblr Reading Comprehension Skilled Individuals [TM] tend to not really register when someone is using generalized, but non-exclusive language. That or they chose to actively ignore it so they have something to get mad at you over.

If you say, "usually, xyz," they interpret that/insist you've said, "always, xyz."

It doesn't really matter if you acknowledge in your language there are known exceptions to whatever tendency or rule you're discussing-- which I honestly would find an extremely fascinating form of weaponized incompetence if that wasn't profoundly destructive to communication prima facie writ large.

Likely an evolution of the broader symptoms of the industrial machine as a whole's violent rejection of non-absolutist thinking.

when people on this website talk about how calling them out for any behaviour (e.g. racism, sexual assault) will get them murdered, I remember how Charlie Kirk got sniped in the neck immediately after going "counting or not counting gang violence?", and the fear that act drove into so many run-of-the-mill bigots and losers who saw that regular (comparatively in terms of notoriety) people are capable of killing powerful people for being terrible people.

they did very much venerate chucky kirk. it was a big thing. it was covered in international news. I am not American and I read about it!
