What do you like most about your learning?

When it comes to the way I learn, I often have difficulties understanding things the first time they are explained to me. My brain functions differently from those around me, and often it can be a frustrating experience to attempt to keep up with the pace. I've also found that despite this, I tend to approach ideas in new, creative ways that those around me wouldn't have thought of before. So I suppose my favorite part of learning is learning how to incorporate creativity into any activity.

I think it's important to recognize your strengths, especially when it comes to learning.

I also have a more creative approach to learning, though it isn't as inventive. Being able to create new ways of thinking that benefits yourself is extremely important as a student.

What I Like About My Essay

My favorite part about my essay is the topic and the relevance in my field of interest. Looking at how an artist's face being present in the visual content of a post affects engagement on social media matters a lot in my career path. I also felt that my methods of collecting data was effective in answering the research question, strengthening the claims of the essay with the patterns found in the data. I felt I was contributing to the discussion of content strategy in music instead of simply summarizing what many already assume or know to be true.

I didn't really think of that and that's a unique point you bring up! It is a really good point, and I agree that it feels like you are building more on a discussion of something new.

What do you like most about your learning?

I really enjoy seeing the progression in my writing. For example, I believe my ability to analyze data and explain it has improved a lot because of this class.

By the second paper, I had an easier time creating my audience analysis and proving my data. It was interesting for me to see how quickly I was able to grasp the concept and use it within assignments!

Being able to see changes is always important to me as a student.

Earlier in the response I discuss my writing style, so I want to have the feedback be focused on how my writing process is written.

Does this small paragraph succeed in describing my general process? Should I add more details or is it fine how it is?

What questions about writing skill development do you have?

I wanted to ask about how to do a more in-depth analysis in the future.

I feel like I have gotten a lot better at analyzing my data and making points connected throughout the paper, but a lot of your comments revolved on including more.

Do you have any suggestions on how to do a analysis correctly? Since I felt most of my analysis was complete, I feel like I had a hard time going past that. I know it’s a pretty general question, but I think it would help a lot in my future papers!

what are you most proud of with your writing process?

I am very happy with my drafting process. 

I think that has been something I had struggled with in the past, but this class helped me develop my process a lot. So far, it has significantly improved my overall flow and professionality of papers.

I used to struggle a lot with jumping from point to point and having no real analysis, but the drafting process I developed has helped me a lot with this. Forcing me to break my papers down into multiple steps is something I will continue to do in the future.

how will having a good revision process help you moving forward beyond this class?

Having a strong revision process will help me beyond this class because it makes my writing clearer and more focused. In my essay on content strategy and discourse communities, I learned that my ideas about the “who, what, and why” of posting need to stay connected throughout my paper. When I revise, I can go back and make sure each paragraph supports my main argument and clearly connects to my research question. It also helps me add explanation where my ideas might be too general or unclear. Overall, revision will help me improve how I organize and strengthen my arguments so my writing is more effective in future classes and other types of writing.

I think it's interesting that you point out how everything needs to be connected. I feel like in my writing, I have a tendency to be unfocused with my ideas and constantly lose my thesis.

I think you do a good job at stating why revisions are important and how they can significantly improve the final product. I think this class really helped me understand how important it is to break down a project like this.

what did you learn about your writing process that will help you after college?

I now have a better grasp of the amount of time it takes me to work on writing and how to get the best results. I began this class squeezing all of the writing assignments into a last minute situation but with these bigger projects, I've found that my writing thrives when I revisit it a couple days of the week and continue rereading and revising throughout the week. It makes my writing sound a lot more academic and professional which will help me with any career after college.

I agree that his class has helped me learn how to create better papers. Similar to you, I also used to do papers at the last moment which allowed for very little revisions.

Breaking up the project in way the assignments made me definitely made my writing sound more polished and developed.

I feel like this is a great point to address in my paper, but I feel like the latter half of this argument falls short. Am I wording it well? Or is there a different viewpoint that comes to mind?

I think this is an interesting observation! If possible, maybe you can elaborate more on what this means?

For example, what do you think this shows about the audience. Why is there not a lot of subscribers when compared to views? Is this caused by something?

Overall, I think this is a good start but just needs a little more elaboration if that makes sense...

This is my conclusion. I want to know if I successfully showcase why my project matters. 

I think I touch slightly on how video length is an extremely important part of a Youtubers content strategy but I am not sure if I should clarify more.

I usually struggle on conclusions and wrapping up all of my findings in a simple way, so feedback would be appreciated!

what did you learn about your writing process that will help you after college?

I learned that my process can be kind of messy. I tend to move all over the place when writing essays instead of focusing on one section at a time. While this works for me, it can lead to more editing during the final draft to make things more cohesive. 

I think this project helped me recognize that I should not jump around when writing essays, and try to stick to one idea at a time. This method will also limit my own confusion and hopefully increase clarity within my writing.

what did you learn about drafting across multiple weeks that will inform your writing process after college

I think what I did was extremely successful for myself. Since this project was completed across 4 weeks, I decided to break down my process more than I typically would.

The first week was combining bullet points with previous content that aligned with my analysis.

Second week, I started putting some of these bullet points into actual paragraphs

Third week, I had a complete rough draft with no bullet points.

Fourth week, I only have to edit certain points and try to incorporate any feedback given to me.

This process helped me a lot, and has taught me that breaking things up into smaller steps makes things more manageable. If I had tried to write this paper within one week, it would not be as effective. Being able to break down larger projects into a more manageable schedule is an important thing to learn, and this project reinforces that.

Having a strong revision process helps me think beyond just finishing an assignment. It forces me to look at the bigger structure of what I am writing and whether it actually makes sense. That skill transfers outside this class because most professional writing is about clarity and organization. Learning to revise for logic, audience, and flow will help me in future academic projects and even in professional settings where clear communication matters.

Revision process is all about time management and benefits you in the long run by making your work load more manageable. I think it's good to break things up into more manageable tasks while not loosing focus on the overall topic.

How will having a good revision process help you move forward beyond this class?

Having a good revision process will help me beyond this class as revision is a major part of my work, in both visual and literature work. I may be required to revise something fast and effectively for a client in the future and having a consistent, thought out, process to revise my work that I can replicate through any process and adapt when necessary is crucial to keep up professionally with the ever changing landscape of graphic design. Not only as a graphic designer am I required to revise art, but I may be asked to work as an editor or recommend revisions in a client's writing. But the process can apply to either in a similar way.

I am also a graphic design major, and agree that revising is extremely important in both areas.

I like that you acknowledge literature work and visual work are different, but the concept is the same. Revisions are a big part of our work and being able to use that process in multiple areas is useful.

what does your final revision process look like? 

My final revision process is finishing by adding explanations to all my graphs, adding in more images, and just overall cleaning up the project to the best of my abilities. I also need to finish typing my results and conclusion, which will come after the first things I've listed. I think I have a solid foundation, so I won't need to add too much more information anymore, and I'm just filling in the blanks at this point.

This is very similar to my final revision process! I usually elaborate more on my graphs near the end of the project as well and go from there.

I feel like having a solid foundation really helps in the end stages and keeps work light and more managable.

Having a good revision process will help break up the essay into a more reasonable task. Also, it makes it easier to keep your thoughts organized and stay on track.

Breaking up this assignment the way that I have made it easier to complete the next assignment because I already have other information to build off of.

For example, if I only did 1 draft and then a final submission, my thoughts would not be as organized, and I would have a hard time with the overall point.

how are you developing style to build your argument in the content analysis?

I think a good stylistic choice I make is making the data easy to understand. Even though the information is complex, I am able to make it more digestible for the reader without losing that complexity.

This is important for this project because content analysis covers such a broad area and is constantly changing. Keeping it "simple" allows me and the reader to not get lost in the information being presented.
