Four years ago, I was painting an antique key I found before attending my friendās quinceaƱera. At said quince I met and instantly clicked with another girl there. We became friends and over the years, she helped me heal and grow as a person, and she would go on to become my best friend.
Anyway, cut to this year, itās my birthday and she brings me a gift. I open it to find an antique key, specifically one I was eyeing while shopping with her at an antique store a couple weeks. She noticed me looking at it and decided to buy it for me. I got super emotional. Anyway the key now hangs on my wall :)
Look y'all, this reveal means so much to me. So many times in movies these days there are big reveals for the audienceās benefit that mean absolutely nothing in the context of the story or to the characters in it. Iām talking the Thanos cameo in the Avengersā stinger, Iām talking Benedict CumberKhan in Star Trek, Iām talking about every hackneyed āThis character is actually this other characterā when in universe nobody knows nor cares about their true identity.
But here? This reveal? This is a Big Reveal for us, Peter B Parker, and Miles, all on different levels. We and Peter both know Doc Ock is a portly dude, not a woman. We know the name Octaviusā¦ Otto Octavius. But when she says her name is Olivia Octavius weāre clued in to the fact that Doctor Octopus is a woman in this universe. And she has Peter captive.
Miles, if he was paying attention in science class earlier in the movie, would have known her name was Olivia Octavius, but that doesnāt mean anything to him, why would it? Liv has apparently been very good about keeping her supervillainy a secret. Sheās in educational videos shown in high-schools. So to Miles, the reveal here is this scientist lady, who he knew enough about to know was the head scientist at Alchemax, is a supervillain. He gets the reveal a second or two after Peter.
And the movie? It was dropping hints the entire time, confident in our expectations blinding is to the truth. Oliviaās name was partially visible when Miles got to science class. Her glasses are octagonal. The lights in her lab are octagonal. We know sheās working with the Kingpin. Why wouldnāt she be a supervillain? Because sheās hot? Hell, Peter even says he needs to reexamine his internal biases. Maybe he was telling us that we should too.
Itās a reveal for us, and for our heroes. It means something, both in-universe and out. And that makes it infinitely better than other similar reveals.

Hello, my name is Nadin. Iām from Gaza. Iām a graphic design graduate, a wifeāand now, a mother.
I finished my design studies just before the war began. I had dreams of starting a small studio, of creating art that told stories. I used to think about colors and fonts and the future.
Then, the war came. And the future became something we tried to hold onto, moment by moment.
On October 22, 2023, I learned I was pregnant when a missile destroyed my husbandās family home, killing 25 membersāhis mother, siblings, nieces and nephewsāentire branches of our family in seconds.
We were displaced twice. Everything was goneāhome, safety, routine, rest.
A few weeks later, I gave birth to our daughter. There was no crib, no celebrationānot even stillness. But she arrived, quietly and beautifully. In her eyes I saw something I hadnāt felt in weeks: life that still wanted to grow.
Now, our days are shaped by decisions that could dismantle the future we are trying to build together.
Today, Israelās government is discussing plans for a full military occupation of the Gaza Strip, including Gaza City and southern regions. The stated aim: to eliminate Hamas and later hand governing control to allied Arab forcesānot Israelābut with no clear path to peace or normalcy.
The humanitarian fallout is devastating. More than 61,000 Palestinians have died in this war; hunger and malnutrition are rising sharply. Hospitals in north Gaza have shut down, and 193 people have now died of starvation, nearly half of them children.
Aid remains blocked, water is scarce, and many risk dying of hunger or disease long before future promises arrive.

Thereās no clear path forwardāonly uncertainty for our daughterās life and our ability to survive another day.
