my breakdown of every song on 'bewitched' by laufey and how they relate to picard x crusher:
Dreamer - I get mainly beverly vibes from this one--she (presumably) didn't date after jack died. im inclined to believe it's half because of grief and guilt but also because she wanted picard and couldn't have him.
Second Best - i have two separate interpretations for this one. 1) picard being second best to jack in beverly's mind and never being stable enough for her so she chose jack. 2) beverly being second best to starfleet and picards command and how she thinks he'll choose that over her every time (i.e. in star trek picard when she mentions to him that she didn't tell him she was pregnant because she knew that he'd eventually have to make the choice between either his family or his job and he'd choose work)
Haunted - this one kind of reminds me of attached. it could be representative of either of them honestly. they both had a good time (circumstances allowing, of course) on kesprytt and allowed themselves to have this bubble of bliss and acceptance that they could be together, or at least can kind of admit their feelings for one another. but when they return to the enterprise and their lives they have to deny their feelings once more and pretend that there's nothing between them.
Must Be Love - this one is a pretty basic love song which I can't really dissect as specifically for them since they never really got to be like, really in love in the show but in a perfect world this song would be perfect for them because they are canonically in love!!!!!!!!!
While You Were Sleeping - this one kind of reminds me of what i imagine casperia prime would've been like and the time they had together which was like, the only time they really had together. we don't know how long that was but in my mind it wasn't more than a few days but obviously they spent the night together. while you were sleeping i fell in love - the first time they were both allowed to be actually in love with each other. this interpretation does kind of make the line 'a promise you'll stay' slightly crazy but.
Lovesick - kind of the same as 'must be love'. its a pretty basic love song but because it is, it's pretty easy to relate it to them. i do get more picard vibes from this song though, even relating it to him pining for beverly and maybe pretending she does love him?
California and Me - i see this one also a lot like the second interpretation of 'second best' in that beverly felt like she was always 'the other woman' when it came between her and starfleet. don't consider me when you run back to her - on casperia prime, picard didn't necessarily consider that beverly wanted him to stay and chose starfleet over her (which, to his credit, not sure if he had a choice but.). the first verses before the chorus really demonstrate this struggle beverly has imo
Nocture (Interlude) - this one is just instrumentals so like. not a lot to say but they go to data's concerts together so.
Promise - this one feels like a great representation of beverly's feelings post-casperia prime and after she found out she was pregnant with jack. we didn't say 'goodbye' / just, 'see you very soon' - they didn't expect to not see each other for 20+ years after that morning and so there wasn't a huge goodbye or emotional confessions, leaving beverly with this empty feeling and (probably) regret. no matter how long I resist temptation, I will always lose - she very clearly still loves picard even if she doesn't want to, despite all the times he's messed up and lost her. I broke my promise, and called you last night - could be representative of her message to him in picard when she needed his help or (at least I'd like to imagine) she may have tried to contact him (not necessarily to talk about the fact that she was pregnant) after casperia prime. it hurts to be something it's worse to be nothing with you - she's isolated herself from all her friends and that sucks but the main reason for that was because picard abandoned her emotionally so it's worse for her to be nothing to him. (can you tell this is my favorite song off this album)
From The Start - this is very picard. pretty basic. picard has loved her from the start. it reminds me of a young picard at the academy when they were all friends rather than later on the enterprise. he loves her despite him being jack's best friend. and even though jack is his best friend and he loves him, he still secretly wishes beverly would leave jack for him. how i wish you'll wake up one day / run to me, confess your love - he loves her and wishes that she felt the same
Misty - this is a jazz standard. i am a huge jazz/crooner songs but honestly i don't really love this one so honestly i do skip it most of the times i listen to the album so honestly i don't have a super good connection to this one.
Serendipity - this song is very positive but i can also see it in a more negative or desperate context. picard (as a lot of the sad or yearning songs in this album are related to imo) loves beverly and sees it as some sort of, idk destiny? he has had other loves but they haven't been to the depth to which he loves he her. even the sustained relationship he had with laris ended because of beverly. their relationship is unique and lucky (or unlucky, I suppose). i hope that you'll still look at me like im still twenty-three - did she express interest in him when they first met? did she agonize between who she was going to pick?
Letter To My 13 Year Old Self - This is the one exception so I am not counting this
Bewitched - this one is, again, a love song. but still, i can see this for them. they're in love man, idk what to say. i just wish they could've had their 'young and in love' moment and not fully confessed their feelings when they were like eighty years old but. whatever. real yearning doesn't have a time limit i guess.
(honorary mention to 'too little, too late' from her new album because it is sooooo picard coded)
