Shes not living in some cute apartment wearing miniskirts with two fluffy dogs San is an ecoterrorist making clothing out of shopping bags and bailing twine and builds pipe bombs in her free time
Ashitaka meets her when she tries to blow up the car of the dignitary hes shadowing & saw her for the first time when she was getting arrested and spat a bloody tooth into a cops face and fell in love on the spot. They are not living a cute life
Shes texting him photos of gangrenous wounds at 3 am like “is this infected?” And he’s replying “yeah sweetness it is ❤️ thats not on you is it?” And shes like of course not and hes like “okay good just checking love you!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️” and she responds with like two kissy emojis and a bomb. People are texting ashitaka like he’s having some sort of psychotic break.

This is absolutely their dynamic and that’s why Prince Ashitaka is the Standard by which we measure our mates
Why can’t it be both.
Because San isn’t like some kind of freegan who Ashitaka adopts? I don’t disagree with anything San does (people who know me Know how close i am at all times to going off the deep end and following in her footsteps) but the fact of the matter is that she ends the movie- when the humans have agreed to stop exploding her forest and attacking the animals in it- by saying “no, I can’t forgive the humans. What has been done is too much.” And she is not wrong to say that, which is why ashitaka says he will come visit her when he can and does not for a second try to convince her to stay with him. She does not become some tame toned down person who can live comfortably among the people of iron town- San is Built Different in a very literal way and to try to make her something different is like.. insane to me. It’s just not very in tone with the movie or the message, and it does a huge disservice to the story in my opinion. In a modern au equivalent where San is trying to destroy an oil field or a coal mining operation or loggers, having everybody agree to stop attacking each other and destroying the environment still isnt going to make her want to go hang out with people, even less so than it did in the movie. Theres a million other oil fields coal mines and logging operations out there that are doing the exact same thing, because the modern world operates on a larger scale than the world San lives in in the movie. I simply find it distasteful to imagine her with a cellphone and a purse and a frequent flyer card to a coffee shop and very ignorant of the message of the movie itself.
I’m convinced if ppl on this site knew how crappy gifs look before you color them properly, they would appreciate editors more

I truly don’t think people realize how dingy and dark most movies and tv shows actually are so they can’t appreciate the work and skill it takes to make gifs look the way your brain “remembers” it looking.
Another before and after example:
This gif needed 6 different adjustment layers, not including the sharpening process, which is its own separate challenge. The blue window was also changed to green to keep the palette more consistent and to reduce the range of colors needed, because a wider range of colors generally results in worse gif quality since gifs only support a max of 256 (compared to the millions your monitor can display).

I don’t think I could talk about The Sandman on here because, like, Neil Gaiman is here, just hanging out. I’d be like “Oh, I like how they visualized this one scene, it was different from the comics but I don’t think they original comics visualizations would have worked in live action “ or whatever And then Neil Gaiman might appear like “Yeah, we were having trouble figuring out how to do that scene until one of our production designers had a vivid hallucination while eating a 3AM Gyro purchased from an all-night food truck outside the Bass Pro Shop pyramid” and I don’t think I’m ready for that experience. Alternatively, I could say “Dream is a little too scrungly to be a classic Tumblr Sexyman, but he is prime meow-meow blorbo material” and Neil Gaiman might appear and say “Yeah, we were having trouble figuring out the exact ratio of Sexyman, poor little meow meow, and Blorbo, but the final characterization appeared to Tom Sturridge in a vivid hallucination while eating a 3AM Gyro purchased from an all-night food truck outside the Bass Pro Shop pyramid” and I don’t think I’m ready for THAT either.
