favorite language learning resources
duolingo- a lot of language learners have issues with it but itâs good to get a base on the language and theyâre always adding new languages!
memrise- good for vocabulary and memorizing, they have a wide list of languages
babbel- really effective if you want to learn how to communicate with people or get around, costs money for the full version but they have sales all the time
hellotalk- language exchange app, iâve had really good experiences with this app, the only downside is that you have to pay to select more than one language you want to learn
tandem- similar to hellotalk, i like it slightly less but it allows you to choose as many languages as you want!
forvo- you can listen to native speakers pronounce things! itâs amazing!
ipachart- interactive chart with the international phonetic alphabet
wordreference- online dictionary for french, spanish, german, italian, portuguese, dutch, swedish, russian, polish, romanian, czech, greek, turkish, chinese, japanese, korean, and arabic
bab.la- another online dictionary with 24 languages
linguee- really great for learning phrases and seeing words in context
omniglot- encyclopedia of writing systems and languages, really great for learning new writing systems & also basic phrases! also has links to other resources!
the great language game- game for testing listening comprehension to several dozen languages!
ba ba dum- fun vocabulary game
easy languages- youtube channel featuring native speakers speaking a variety of languages but mostly spanish, french, and german
wikitongues- youtube channel attempting to document every language in the world
languagepod101- offers podcasts and youtube videos in a wide variety of languages
verbix- verb conjugating website with a wide variety of languages
quizlet- flashcard website thatâs great for compiling vocab lists
lingq- iâve only used it a little but it seems helpful especially for beginners!
tunein- allows you to listen to radio in a variety of languages
wikipedia- they have thousands to millions of articles in various languages so itâs a great place to test your reading skills, and in addition you can read articles about the language youâre learning and get a grasp on the languageâs structure and sound system
lyricstraining- allows you to learn languages using song lyrics, really helpful for comprehension
lang-8- you can post things and have native speakers correct them, and correct things from other people!
feel free to add!
The world is full of evil, lies, pain, and death and you canât hide from it. You can only face it. The question is when you do, how do you respond, who do you become? (insp) Happy Birthday Kourtney @stiilesstilinski

u know what makes me cry..... that one van gogh quote about life changing for the better..... âmany people seem to think it foolish, even superstitious, to believe that the world could still change for the better. and it is true that in winter it is sometimes so bitingly cold that one is tempted to say, âwhat do i care if there is a summer; its warmth is no help to me now.â yes, evil often seems to surpass good. but then, in spite of us, and without our permission, there comes at last an end to the bitter frosts. one morning the wind turns, and there is a thaw. and so i must still have hope.â yeah..... Crying....

This is a really rough time in the world, and taking a second to go through this post might help <3
It helps I promise I have been dealing with this for awhile and this is amazing
A student once asked anthropologist Margaret Mead, âWhat is the earliest sign of civilization?â The student expected her to say a clay pot, a grinding stone, or maybe a weapon. Margaret Mead thought for a moment, then she said, âA healed femur.â A femur is the longest bone in the body, linking hip to knee. In societies without the benefits of modern medicine, it takes about six weeks of rest for a fractured femur to heal. A healed femur shows that someone cared for the injured person, did their hunting and gathering, stayed with them, and offered physical protection and human companionship until the injury could mend. Mead explained that where the law of the jungleâthe survival of the fittestârules, no healed femurs are found. The first sign of civilization is compassion, seen in a healed femur.

A porcupineâs Halloween present (+ original sound effects)
I had no idea giant porcupines made fucking precious sounds
THATâS THE SOUND IT MAKES!?!?!?
UN-BE-FUCKING-LIEVABLEÂ
We got asked if this is cute and okay. I can very happily say yes, this is stupid cute and those are happy porcupine noises.Â
One of my favorite things about doing zoo work was all the noises you never realize the animals make when theyâre excited or interested in a new thing. Coatimundis squeak and snuffle, and giant porcupines make that sound.Â
Omgggg the sounds.
Teddy is back on my dash and all is right with the world
The thing about Persuasion that just kills me is that the central premiseâ âI hope the person who broke my heart has a miserable life and I get to watch them be humiliated while I get everything I ever wantedâ is so universal.
But Wentworth is only able to fully enjoy it for like A DAY before he starts realizing how terrible it is. He watches Anne suffer in silence and he hates it. He watches her being treated like an inconvenience and a joke and a piece of furniture and he hates it. He hears sneering comments at her expense and he hates it. He spends evening after evening in her company, where he is celebrated as a handsome, dashing hero while she is shoved to the side and ignored and he hates it.
He probably spent a lot of heartbroken hours out on the sea wishing revenge on her (like ten yearsâ worth), but then he gets to see it happening and revenge turns out not to be that sweet after all. He probably thought âI hope she never gets married to anyone else and she has to spend the rest of her miserable life with her miserable family, listening to them talk about nothing and regretting ever letting me go.â But then he has to watch her live through it, and it is just excruciating. Watching her bite her tongue. Watching her keep her eyes down on her clasped hands. Watching her silently accept everything as if she deserves it.
Heâs like, âYES, itâs all HAPPENING! Sheâs all ALONE and PALE and OLD andâŠsad. And her family treats her terribly, and sheâsâ no one is talking to her. No one even knows that sheâs funny and smart, they justâ they just make her sit in the corner. Sheâs hardly eating anything. And she really isnât that old, but they are acting like sheâs dead? Her family is even worse than they used to be, how is that even possible? Why isnât anyone helping her? Why is she the only person taking care of anyone? Why isnât anyone taking care of her?â
And his nasty âsheâs so altered I should not have known her againâ comment that he KNOWS got back to her starts ringing in his ears. And his cocky âyeah Iâm just here to find a YOUNG, HOT girl to marry now that Iâm SUCH A CATCH, whatevsâ approach starts to make him feel queasy, because sheâs HELPING, sheâs trying to stay out of his way and help him pick a young wife, and she hardly ever smiles anymore, not really. He watches her slip out of rooms when he enters them and he hears her laughing with her nephew sometimes but then go quiet when anyone else approaches, and he doesnât know what to do. Anyway, every fandom has a bunch of Pride and Prejudice AUs, but I WANT PERSUASION AUS. I NEED THEM. I NEED THEM.Â
