This Jonathan Crane is a single parent, his kind is usually single. They don't look for partners, a mixture of their secluded nature of books over people and bullying in childhood.
It's extreme difficult for Cranes to find partners.
Jonathan Crane grew up hearing that he is ugly and a freak. They internalized this, and now believes no one will ever be attracted to them.
And if someone were to approach a Jonathan Crane, he would retreat.
An in the small chance scenario they fancy someone, Crane's instinct is to dose them with fear toxin to get their attention.
This mate courting ritual has the effect of actually repeal the object of their affection.

Jonathanes Cranesthat agopted other species are good parents, capable to shower younglings with love and knowledge, however due to lack of sense (it is a creature who wanders the habitat of Gotham wearing burlap and screaming BOO), and socialization, It failed to realize his method of courting does not work, and taughet it to it's Autumn young, who is in trouble now.

While this event is positive in the lives of the younglings, with socialization, emotional estability and finally some commom sense, this does not reflect on the lives of their adopted parents.
For Tuesdays youngling are of a rebel nature, and this one will not aid her dad in what she refers as "cringeness".
This Autumn also does not approve of Edward, analyzing her dad's reaction to the questioning creature courting. She refers to it as "harassing".
