regrets, regrets
why would you do this to me
The rule could have heavy impacts towards trans people across society.
Last week, the Trump administration quietly released a sweeping new federal rule that would use funding threats to force institutions across the country to reject transgender people. The 400-page proposed regulation would codify the administration's anti-trans executive orders into binding federal policy, imposing a blanket prohibition on federal funds going toward "gender ideology"
The proposed rule, formally titled "Regulation for Federal Financial Assistance," rewrites the government-wide framework governing all federal grants across every agency. Among its most consequential provisions, it requires that before a federal grant recipient can receive money, the award must pass a "pre-issuance review" conducted by a political appointee—not a career expert or peer reviewer—to ensure it is "consistent with applicable law, Federal agency priorities, and the national interest." The regulation explicitly instructs these appointees to screen for "denial by the recipient of the sex binary in humans or the notion that sex is a chosen or mutable characteristic." [...] An institution that acknowledges transgender people exist—through its policies, its training, its healthcare, its bathroom access, its HR procedures, its name-change processes—could be deemed to "deny the sex binary" or to “support the notion that sex is mutable” and have its federal funding blocked.
Importantly, the gender ideology prohibition has no age limitation—hospitals could be targeted not just for providing care to minors but for providing gender-affirming care to adults, because prescribing hormone therapy to a transgender patient of any age could be deemed promoting the belief that "sex is a chosen or mutable characteristic."
THIS IS OPEN TO COMMENT UNTIL JULY 13, 2026
This is all very bad and horrible, but I want to be clear that it’s worse and more sweeping than just eliminating trans research.
This torches everything. And I do mean everything.
A very abbreviated list of its ramifications include (but are not limited to):
ending funding for ALL DEI related initiatives
allowing the government to terminate grants at any point for any reason
preventing researchers from publishing, going to conferences, and being part of academic societies
requiring that topics must support the president’s agenda.
What this means, and if anything I’m under selling it, is the death of science and research in America. It allows the government to restrict any topic they please at a whims notice, putting officials who have no background in the topic in charge of deciding funding continuity. It controls what gets researched and if/how researchers are allowed to share their discoveries. There are no books to burn if the government never allows them to be written. This is fascism plain and simple.
Please, if you only ever write one public comment, this is the one to do.
sometimes when my mom gets drunk she goes into Liberated Women Mode, and one time she was real tipsy and while talking about her friend’s divorce, she very earnestly told me and my sister (both adults) that regardless of preference or relationship, she hoped we would both reach a point in our lives where we were having really good sex with really good people. and my sister said, “i do that now except the good people part” and i said, “sex is real?” and my mom didn’t love either of those answers
ur mom sounds hot is she single
my mom is in fact single, and if you are so determined then it’s not my fault when you find out why
"trans people just name themselves after characters" as opposed to cis people who name their children after names in the bible
Let me give you all a tip that I doubt will be helpful for you, do not build a house if you do not already own a house. You might see “new construction, buy the lot and pay us and we’ll build this” listings on real estate sites, do not fall for them. A shitty one bedroom bird in the hand is better than a three bedroom new construction in the bush. These contractors suck ass. There is an 85% chance it will take YEARS to build that house and they will do it so incorrectly you will spend the rest of your life suing them to fix it. It’s not ALWAYS a scam but it is not a risk you want to take if you’re already renting and scraping buy. Get a house with good bones (get a private inspection) and work on making it your dream house, avoid paying for the concept of a house.
You ever think about many peices of media have zero women and thats just perfectly normal but if a peice of media has an all female cast people get... like that? Women should be allowed to kill over this btw

it's actually fucking crazy that people are still parroting the idea that you need to tell people that you're trans before dating kissing or yes even having sex with them. so called allies are still talking about transness like it's this inherently dirty and corruptable aspect of someone, something that's necessary to clarify before intimacy in order for it to be consensual; as if being trans is a rot that can spread and stain someone, as if demanding your partner reveal private information about themselves without you asking is somehow a legitimate personal concern akin to knowing if your partner has an sti.
if a person went on a date with a trans person, kissed them, had sex with them (yes, people can have sex with trans people without knowing that they're trans, how can you possibly belive in the legitimacy of transition if you don't think this is true?) and enjoyed themselves the entire time, they consented. and if they wouldn't have had sex if they knew, sorry, that's their problem. it's ridiculous to expect people to clarify every microscopic aspect of their identity and history on the off chance that the person they're dating has an irrational preference against one of them. and everyone knows this is ridiculous, which is why this logic is only used as a cudgel against trans people. fix yourselves
Just watched Adam Conover (of Adam Ruins Everything) make such a solid point that I think we should spread far and wide. Yes, having AI write your emails is lazy, sure, but people love being lazy. We need to really emphasize that sending AI emails (or using AI responses on social media, or publishing AI flyers, or or or) is rude.
It's rude. You're making someone take their time to read something you couldn't bother to write. You're telling them they were so unimportant you couldn't be bothered to actually take the time to say something yourself. And frankly, you're lying about it while you're at it.
It's rude.
This is literally what people are talking about when they say AI will be used to mainstream widely held bigotry. LLMs are trained on frequency and probability -> straight relationships are more well represented in the dataset -> straight pronouns and terms become the "correct" normal.
This is a form of backdoor bigotry from both normative facts (there are more straight than gay relationships) and well represented bigoted beliefs (men are superior to women).
Combine this with the mass of people inclined to believe (and being encouraged to believe) that if AI says and does something it must be correct
Sharing that reminds me that I gotta discuss how Medical Apartheid explains that the founder of Planned Parenthood believed in using birth control as a form of "positive" eugenics for the Black community. And some person got so vehemently upset at me quoting her own words that they said I was speaking out of historical context to make her look bad, that I lacked comprehension. Even though. I was citing her own words. From her own plan. 😐 Oooh man. Whole book is about how some of our best medical research has come at the cost of Black and brown bodies 😅 gotta be ready to hear some shit!
