the way some people tried to explain how dany going mad made perfect sense bc !! there was !!! foreshadowing !!!!!! as if trying to desperately get help for your people by using threats (s2) and killing slave masters or war enemies is in any way problematic, especially compared to all the shit the other got characters pulled? nah

I am going to reblog this post every time it comes across my dashboard. Jon just stood there and did not even extend credit to Dany after all HER hard work. She brought HER dragons to the North and trained them to battle. However, it “muSt bE” only a man who could do that, right?

It’s almost like the show was aware how bullshit the complete lack of respect everyone had for Daenerys is. “She’s the reason we’re not all frozen corpses marching south right now, but to hell with that bitch.” Tormond got on Drogon after that stupid wight hunt, too. He’s seen Daenerys ride and lead her dragons himself.

@khaleesiofthegreatdairystate As per the show’s narrative, Dany’s reaction here was meant to be seen as an indication of her emerging madness and evil. We know that from the reactions they gave, for instance Varys. Which means that Jon is probably meant to be seen not so much as guilty or ashamed in that scene (much as we may be inclined to think that is natural) but rather apprehensive that she’d go insane and ballistic. We don’t see her like that so we wouldn’t see it in that way. But this would be more in line with the season 8 Dany retcon. It was starting this episode that everyone was suddenly to start seeing her as crazy, Sansa to see her perfectly natural political moves of legitimizing Gendry as evil, Tyrion to suddenly be afraid of her, and Varys to believe that she must be going mad.

also notice how they used useless fan-favorite Tormund to once again set up a false dichotomy comparing Dany and Jon: “Who would get on a dragon? A madman or a king.” If we can look past the gendered language (another issue they purposefully wrote in) the question we’re supposed to then ask is “of the two dragon riders [ignoring how dumb it was for Jon to be riding a dragon and have 0 people wonder if he was also a Targ] which of these is the madman and which is the king”? And they’ve dropped enough false dichotomies with the inappropriate usage of the “gods flipping a coin” quote (which is bs even in context I don’t know what tf Jaeherys was on when he told Barristan that), the constant beating of Aerys’s dead corpse with insinuations that Dany’s gotta be like her father, etc. etc. with that line alone they’re supposed to be pitting everyone else against Daenerys and making the audience think she’s going “crazy”

I’m still so mad that they treated Dany this way, when she literally saved the North from total destruction with dragon fire and her armies.

@theladymeera I didn’t catch it the first time, but I think the quote you have pointed out is significant here.

“Who rides a dragon? A madman or a King”

And the intended implication was that Dany was the “mad(wo)man” and Jon the rightful “king.” D&D’s intentions were actually pretty clear… if we forget season’s 1-7. Just like they dropped a quote in the same episode from Tormund (again) about how Jon would prefer to be in the icy North… again something with little evidence from season 1-7 (in season 6 Jon even said he wanted to go South and “get warm.”) 

The audience did not draw these conclsuions because the characters were not introduced to us in 8x01, but 1x01. It was a retcon, as I have argued.
