I can't verbalize this in the way I want to, and I don't want to make any woman feel like she's not allowed to complain. But every time I see the uterus personified as an evil entity and periods treated as bad, I low-key cringe. No, your body isn't inherently meant to be pregnant, and no your period is not a punishment for failing to be pregnant. You're not failing at being a woman because you aren't having babies. Your body is not turning against you because you did something wrong. Unless you suffer from an illness that exacerbates your periods, you're just going through a neutral, dare I say good because it's a sign you're healthy, human female experience. This way of thinking feels like the modernized opinions of a medieval priest.

I think it's a good time again to bring up that we have periods specifically because our uteruses are protecting us against pregnancy. im going to copy past an old post I made about it to explain how that is and how that came about so long post ahead (original post here)

our uterus evolved to protect us as well!! im going to do my best in recounting the science behind why we are one of the few animals that have periods in the first place, but itll be a rough recounting so take with a grain of salt

tl;dr we evolved like that to protect ourselves from getting pregnant from most sperm that might enter our system. our uterus learnt to be very harsh when deciding what zygotes it wanted actually sticking around, since pregnancy takes a toll on the human body

okay so basically its because of human placenta. most mammals dont give nutrients to their fetuses through a placenta, but through a sort of milky substance the placenta however is made to literally rewire the moms blood vessels to direct itself towards the baby. However thats a much more aggressive way to grow a fetus. it means that the fetus can "control" the mother's body to get what it needs from her. as in, nutrients prioritize the fetus rather than the mother. which is why human pregnancy is a lot rougher on human women than in other animals because thats a lot for a woman to go through.

we have the endometrium to kinda give the cells a place to sit. it is actually very much not a welcoming environment for an embryo, even tho most people have the idea that its a lil blanket ready to welcome a baby. the article im remembering this from stated that they even did a study where they placed embryos all over the bodies of mice and the hardest place for it to grow was the endometrium. the endometrium wants to make sure only the best embryos get through so the woman doenst have to go through all that for nothing. but the embryo is trying to implant its placenta as fast as possible in order to get access to the mothers blood supply. so the endometrium only got tougher and thicker. and then mens sperm got more aggressive to compensate. and then women's uteruses got more defensive.

and so from there the uterus developed the habit of sloughing off the entire endometrium in order to clean itself out of any embryos that it didnt want

oddly enough its our uterus and our period that is trying to protect us from unwanted pregnancies. she goes through pains so that we dont hopefully dont have to go through 9 months of it 🙏

I've been meeting more and more 21-24 year old trans people and so many of them are just so... childish?? They still act like teenagers. And at first I was judgemental of them. I do not respect that they are grown adults that continue acting this way.

But I've also learned that a lot of them started transitioning at 14, 15, 16, etc. So fucking young. Indoctrinated and put on this horrific medical malpractice train that they just can't get off of. There's a really disturbing lack of self-reflection that baffled me until I realized that transition has basically stunted them.

This applies more for the ~everyone is valid uwu~ crowd than the transmedicalists, who usually want to just move on with their lives. But these people are stuck in this ideological bubble where they cut out anyone who disagrees with them. They reject anything that makes them feel uncomfortable, that threatens their perception of their gender, which is so fragile that it can't be held under scrutiny. And they know it. It's why the act the way they do. Allowing their views about gender and the world at large to develop would also mean leaving behind their zealotry. They cannot do this because of how invested, physically and socially, they have become in this ideology. Leaving it behind would mean loss of friends, loss of ego, maybe even a full detransition. It would mean death.

this tracks with my experience of transition, which i started at 18-almost-19. i felt stuck there maturity-wise for so long, invested in this one narrow goal to the neglect of any other life goals i could have been pursuing. i did not engage in age-appropriate growth during this time (at least not willingly).

happy to say i have since caught up to myself, a process in which detransition was only the first step.

the actual pride month rundown

- marsha p. johnson repeatedly identified as a gay man and drag queen and survived into an era where the language did already exist if he chose to identify as transsexual. he explicitly stated that he was not transsexual and claimed that all transsexual people were also homosexual.

- sylvia rivera did identify as a transsexual woman (and made disparaging speeches about lesbians). she was not an ally to lesbians. lesbians and transwomen have not always been allies.

- neither of them were there when the stonewall riots began, according to marsha’s own testimony. sylvia was sleeping off a drug trip on a park bench, and by the time marsha arrived at stonewall, the riots were already in full swing.

- storme delarverie, a mixed black gender-nonconforming lesbian and drag king, may have been the one who incited the stonewall riots. she never identified as a transman despite surviving into an an era where the language was made accessible to do so. accounts differ as to who started the riots.

- stonewall was not a special haven for trans people and drag artists, it was just some bar where gay people met up. by all accounts, it wasn’t even a good bar.

- pride as a festival and parade was invented by gay men, lesbians, and bisexual people. fred sergeant is one of those gay men, and he has been beaten (in recent years, as an elderly man) by trans people and their allies due to his views on medical transition. non-homosexual trans people were unheard of in this era.

- this is just united states history, and not even the beginning of gay rights activism in the united states alone. the rest of the world didn’t necessarily base its gay rights activism on stonewall.

what i am tired of seeing is people mocking the effects of hormones (ie making fun of tif voices) or implying all tifs are stupid for buying into trans ideology (good for you that you avoided our fate, but many of us transitioned due to some combination of trauma and internalized misogyny. i would just hope for more empathy from fellow feminists)

these are things that are off-putting to me, as a detransitioned woman. i'm not saying you need to be nice and polite to any tif who is making misogynyistic or abusive statements

would you believe me if i told you the story of this game put the possibility of death and dying and terminal illness in my head as a kid. i was 4. the dread i felt for this game cannot be replicated

i just barely remember what this game was about because i was 4 but basically you’re a dog and you live on an island and your dog family has a dog sister. or brother. i don’t remember. your dog sibling falls ill with a terminal illness or it is heavily implied that it will be fatal. there is a scene where the ill dog sibling tries to go to a party and they collapse and the audience is led to believe that they died. they do not die but are bedridden. your dog father tries to find a cure overseas but goes missing and is pretty much as close to “confirmed dead” as you can get in an e for everyone title. then you try to find a cure overseas and your boat gets separated and you get lost at sea. you do not die and end up on another island. a doctor is there. from that point i do not remember anything about the game other than giraffes try to attack you or something . i had to stop playing because this game made me So upset i was afraid to touch it. the game looks like this

If you’d kept playing you would’ve been so much more traumatized than you already were, it does not get less intense. Allow me to tell you about some of the other fucked up plot points/subplots:

You don’t just get separated from your boat, no, it’s MUCH more upsetting than that. There’s a storm, and the captain says you won’t be able to make it to the island. The idea of returning home without a cure is so unbearable to you that you jump overboard and try to swim there. You almost drown, but a bird you nursed back to health earlier in the game alerts a resident of the island, who saves your life.

The town’s water supply gets poisoned at one point and everyone gets sick but you. You have to find a healer in the woods because even the town doctor can’t help

A nurse dog on the island is afraid of the color red and is mercilessly bullied by a group of dogs in her town. You have to help her get over this fear. It originated from a traumatic event in her childhood where she thought she killed her best friend.

The doctor who helps your sick sibling also has a traumatic past. His fiancé got terminally ill and because he argued with another doctor on the best treatment, she died. He visits her grave often.

The miracle cure (a flower) you’re searching for to save your sibling? When you find it, it’s wilted. If you can’t find a way to restore it, you know your sibling will almost certainly die.

Also the literal apocalypse has been building up for the entire duration of the story, and you have to literally travel to an alternate dimension to consult the queen of a mythical race on how to save the world

To get a magic stone that will help you save the world, you have to fight a giant dinosaur skeleton referred to as the “Ancient Monster” and it is heavily implied that it fought your father at some point, and may have even killed him. Yes this is still the same game

Yeah but that game was really something. There are pirates. There are poisonous snakes. All of the enemies have the ability to kill you. The soundtrack is phenomenal. You have a magical sidekick named Petasi. One of the game’s central themes is the importance of kindness. I tried to play it on my own once and got killed by a gorilla while trying to find grapes.

in my experience the reason why we dont come to this conclusion before we come to the conclusion that were just not girls is because it doesnt feel like its coming from men. it feels like its coming from other girls. like 90% of the girls I grew up around were from more wealthy families while I was not, but they had the money and whatever social juice it takes to be actually good at makeup, good at fashion, on trend (and also didnt struggle with their weight like I did). it never felt like some man coming in there and saying 'you need to be like this, you're not good enough like this'. it felt like the very real observation that I was different than the others. it felt like a very material difference because of that
